  1. Select the railing wall and apply a "Wall Covering" (10" high, -10" to bottom).

    -or-

copy the "Wall Type" for that railing and add the riser material to the exterior surface.  In reality, the riser is there but the Wall Surface material is over-riding it in the display.

There's no way to specify a different material for the trim vs risers.  We've asked for that but CA hasn't done it yet.

Using the wall covering it spans the whole wall, not just the stair section.  And copying the wall type covers all the stairwell walls.  I think I will use a polyline, I seem to be getting good at using those to fake out things, lol.

  2. A couple of questions on this post...

    1) How do i change the material on this top piece of my stairs?  When I do it changes the whole wall.

    2) How do I trim the trim to the height of the floor?

    3) Can I change the height of the trim?

And lastly, can I can I select a different material for the trim than the riser?

    Thank you in advance!

  3. In Plan view you are just showing the upper wall.  If you cut a section thru the building, the upper wall is only a 4" stud wall aligned with the exterior face of the CMU.  Is that how it was built or is the upper wall the full thickness?

That is how it is built!  It's weird, I know.  I think the people who built/designed this house were on crack or something.

  4. Why do you need to raise them?

You can insert a new Floor between Floor 0 and Floor 1.  Then use Edit Area to copy all the interior walls, doors, etc. on Floor 0 to the new Floor 1. (use copy/paste/paste in place)

Then you will need to delete those Items on Floor 0 and probably build a new Foundation.

btw: You should change the Basement Exterior Walls to CMU or Concrete.

Because I'm an engineer and little things like that bother me.

I don't understand, I checked and I thought they were CMU walls in the basement? I've got them set as pony walls 8" (Block) CMU with a 4" interior wall 36" tall, that's how this house was built.

  5. Hello All,

I am going to start bombarding you all with many questions.  Then go on vacation, then bombard you again when I get back.

But I will only do one at a time, so simply things, you know, lol.

Anyways, in my basement, the doors are not on the finished floor, but below them on the slab.

Floor to Boom is set to 0"

The room trim is set directly on the finished floor like it's supposed to be.

    Any ideas why?

    Thanks!

  6. Thank you for that information.  I am definitely learning a lot with this.  Although it's not quite what I am trying to accomplish.

Please ignore that the following photos are from Halloween, it's all I could get at the moment :D

I haven't asked about the vaulted ceiling part as I have not yet gotten to that part, I'm just tying to learn one thing at a time.  But as you can see the whole foyer section is lower inside and out.

  7. Hello, new to Chief Architect here.  There does not seem to be a lot of information on Bi-Level homes.  Having a heck of a time with mine.

Currently trying to recreate my house.

I created the main floor, with garage, then added a basement. I drew the foyer in with the first floor.  Below the foyer is the same concrete slab of the basement.

Our foyer is split between the main floor and basement.  I have the stair landing, stairs and opening all correct. But the foyer closet and ceiling heights are what I am having a problem with.  Above the landing itself (includes the closet) the ceiling height is 8' .  The closet currently is still on the first floor level. I can't seem to get it down.

The garage is another issue.  The slab is 24" below the finished floor of the foyer.  I followed the steps for creating a split level home to sink the garage down, but it's too far.  And when I try to adjust it in Room Specifications>Structure, it sends all the other numbers haywire.

I have attached the drawing so you can see what I'm talking about.

    Thanks!
