  1. I'm a builder and only modestly proficient at Chief. I am willing to pay to have someone work with me to clean up some of the details on an "as built" plan I'm working on. It's primarily taking care of some "wonky" areas in the 3D imaging. I'm ready to begin immediately. Attached is the zip backup file as of this point. (Version X10) Morris as built.zip
  2. I LOVE this new laptop and LOVE the dock/multi-screen setup but it has been glitchy from the beginning with monitor settings/resolutions. The newest windows update just happened in the last couple of weeks and I was hopeful that would address the remaining glitchiness but it didn't. My windows toolbar and the bottom often disappears on the main screen even though it appears just fine on the remaining screens. #FirstWorldProblems
  3. That was my original thought. I just couldn't find Chief's recommended resolution settings to see if mine were set to that.
  4. Ok...found a clue...problem sort of fixed itself. (I hope it "sticks") I use a Surface Book Pro laptop on a dock with three 27" displays attached. In order to get a screenshot, I have to shut down the 3 extended monitors and do the screenshot just of the laptop screen. (If not, I get this GIANT image that shows all 3 screens) Anyway, everything displayed properly when running from the laptop screen only. Then when I reconnected the 3 extended displays, everything appears normally now on them too. I'll let everyone know if this self correction continues to work. Thanks!
  5. Great suggestions/questions....does it to all plans, even stuff I've created in earlier versions. Does it to 3D renderings too. Standby for screenshots...
  6. This is such a difficult problem to describe...I've tried using those keys to no avail. It zooms to roughly the top 1/3 of the floorplan and doesn't display the bottom 2/3, including the DBX toolbar at the bottom of the screen that normally appears. I think it's a windows setting. I also think it would be easy to search for a fix but I have had no luck soundbiting the problem for search term purposes.
  7. Good morning! I noticed that suddenly I cannot get my entire floorplan to fit on my screen, including the DBX toolbar across the bottom. I'm 99.9% certain it's some sort of display setting issue. I've Google'd and checked Chief and haven't had luck. (Hard time thinking of the correct search terms for this issue) Any suggestions? Thanks!
  8. Thanks man! It's a 2 wythe brick wall. I managed to define the wall type. At the right time, I'd love to be able to show them an accurate limewash.
  9. Half assed/good enough is good enough ;-) I'll give it a shot. I'm just trying to do an as built of a historic home I'm bidding a rehab on. Built in 1835!
  10. I tried Googling and searching the Knowledge Base to no avail. How can I get a limewash to display on my brick layer in 3D view? Thanks in advance!
  11. "With practice" being the operative phrase...lol. I went ahead and used this as an excuse to use my SSA to upgrade to beta 9. (For some reason I couldn't get 8 anywhere in my digital locker) Anyway, thanks so much for your help! I'll give you an update tomorrow.
  12. I'm tired, not very experienced, and can't seem to get this. I'm trying to render a proposed back porch shed roof for a client. No matter what I do, I can't seem to get the roof lines to connect properly so that the fascia boards are at the same elevation. With the shed roof added, we plan to raise the existing brick up to touch the underside of the new shed roof. Also, there will have to be a long hip to fill in the current open area of roof I have drawn. Any help or suggestions would sincerely be appreciated. I've attached screenshots and I tried to attach the house file but I'm getting an error message from Chieftalk. Going to log out and log back in to try the plan file again. Thanks!
  13. I'll give these suggestions a try. I knew why the doors show through. I guess I should have worded differently. Any suggestions on how to hide that in 3D view? The only reason I can think of regarding the ceiling height over the stair is that I used the auto stairwell tool. Thanks!
  14. Ok...attached is the ole' barn plan I'm still having issues with. I used to be an X1 user but it's been years since I've had the software. I recently got x7 but I'm still rusty. At any rate, I'm in need of what I believe to be pretty easy help for the folks on here. Attached you'll find the plan along with a pic of my customer's inspiration. My vision for that tower is to have it in nearly the same position as the inspiration pic, only directly over my existing stairs. It would be awesome if I could fit some winding stairs into it and make it an "observatory". However, I don't think there will be enough space so I'll be satisfied if it acts as a "light chimney" to flood the stairs with light. My problem is that I've tried everything to figure out how to draw this thing and I'm coming up blank. I've looked at manual dormer tutorials, chimney tutorials, checked the message boards...I just can't quite find anything that works. I feel strongly I've overlooked something simple which is why I'm posting. Suggestions will of course be greatly appreciated. Also, I'm still having a small problem with the half bath under the stair. The idea is that I can lower the ceiling in there to hide the slope from the underside of the stair...maybe even a soffit over the sink. However, somewhere along the way I've screwed something up because when you look underneath the structure in orthographic view, you can see that floor is sunk down a few inches. If you open the .dbx for that room there's an error message that prevents changes to the stem wall which is causing the floor to be sunken in that orthographic view. It's not a huge deal, just very annoying and I've tried everything, including redrawing the bathroom. Lastly, when you go up the stairs in 3D view, you can see the backside of the double closet door opening and the bathroom where the right handrail is. Again, not really important but very annoying. Again, THANKS EVERYONE FOR THE HELP :-) Lotfi Barn Home ver.2.plan Ayrshire-24-Gambrel-Barn-Floorplans.pdf
  15. Thank you so much for the video! I told my wife last night that the folks on Chief Talk are always so helpful and generous with their time. I never expected anything like this though! As far as the little foundation thing at the end of your video that you were puzzled about...I fixed it pretty easily. If you pull the stairs back you can see there is a closet under there that extends under the stair landing platform. (I hate for any storage space to go to waste...if you notice, I even left the area under the bottom set of stairs open...great place for muddy shoes when you enter the house) Anyway, I couldn't figure out why it kept getting jacked up there so I just deleted the closet door wall and replaced it with a new one. I don't know what the original issue was but it fixed the problem so who cares? Again, thanks so much for all of your help! Now I'm going to go figure out how to add an 8'x8' "Light Chimney" over that set of stairs. I'm thinking of starting with manual dormer videos...I'll keep you posted!
  16. I'm giving up for the night. Attached is a barn home plan I'm working on and everything is going swimmingly except for 3 things: 1). If you go up to attic level floorplan (or 3D view), there's these strange little attic walls that I just can't seem to get rid of. They are apparently tied to walls in one of the floors below but I can't figure it out. Perhaps they are remnants of an auto floating dormer I tried? (I'm going to be adding a "light chimney" over the stairwell eventually...it's basically a 7' x 7' chimney with windows covered by a hip roof that comes to a point. I tried unsuccessfully to make it with the floating dormer tool) 2). For some reason the "gable wall" on the barn door side that has two windows is inexplicably cut into two shapes. One seems to be deriving from the wall below, the other from the attic wall? It seems to have something to do with the "Open Below" section but I just can't seem to figure it out. 3). Finally, when doing a 3D walkthrough from the ground floor, there's a strip of sheetrock missing in the "Open to Below" area on the exterior wall. It's missing where there would have been 16" floor trusses were in not for the "Open to Below" section. You might be wondering, why balloon frame the 24' walls? My theory is the rafters for the gambrel are going to have some pretty stout thrust on them. I don't want those rafters bearing on 5' pony walls. So, my solution is to have those 24' walls balloon to 5' above the tops of the 16" floor trusses. The 36' walls are shorter so the floor trusses can bear on them. Make sense? I hope someone can tell me what obvious thing I'm missing here. Any help would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks so much! Lotfi Barn Home ver.2.plan
  17. I know we have a garage door opener symbol. I can't seem to find any door track symbols. I'm drawing a barn home design that uses glass garage doors and would like to be able to show the client how the door track will look. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Steve
