  1. Does anyone have a method todraw a double, dashed cad line 4" apart to represent drain tile on the exterior of my foundation wall on foundation plans?  I don't want anything special to show up when in 3D.  The cad tools and line types are all 1 line only.

  2. Is anyone using google drive for some of their shared folders?  I use another computer from time to time and want to access my user library on both machines (only using one machine at a time).  I also want to have a couple of my current projects on the drive so I can access from either machine.  Chief architect suggested that I don't do this and every time I want to use the 2nd machine, suggested that I export my user library and import it to the 2nd machine.  This process would be a nightmare always having to do this so that I have the most recent library on the machine I am using.  Chief made is sound like it is normal that people don't change much in their user library.  I am always adding to my user library everyday.  I don't need the core, manufactures, or bonus libraries on google drive because I can't change those anyway, just the user library and custom materials.  Any thoughts on how others are using google drive would be appreciated.  I am using X9.  On another note, has Chief fixed their material and rendering issues with X10?

  3. Does anyone know if it is possible to have a room name label automatically center itself vertically in a room.  After naming a room I always have to manually center the label vertically within the room.  Horizontally there seams to be no problem.

  4. I'm also having the same frustrations.  Here is a before X9 and and after X10 ray trace of the same project.  I just needed to make a couple of corrections to the project and now I can't even render the same images to send to my client.

How would one go back to X9 after installing X10??

  5. Here is my definition in my default settings for windows.  Worked fine before the update and I didn't change anything.

    %width%" x %height%"

It does show correctly if I uncheck "use default formatting".

Frustrating when an update comes out and it changes things that have worked correctly before the update.  Now I have to remember and make this correction on all of my old drawings that I've done when I open them back up.

Thanks for the help.  Sorry for the frustration.

  6. I've decided to get the 2016 desktop version for Mac and use it until next year.  Found a version for $199.  This will give me at least a year to do additional research on new Mac systems.  To busy to transfer to a new system now.  I can transfer my pc quickbooks file to this Mac version.  I'll use and worry about it next year if they end up discontinuing it or who knows, like Alaskan Son says, maybe they will reconsider and continue it.  Thanks all for the feedback.

  7. I'm looking for recommendations on what other designers may be using for bookkeeping/accounting software for Mac.  I've recently made the switch from pc to Mac and am liking it.  The only think I need to switch over is my bookkeeping/accounting.  I currently use Quickbooks Pro desktop 2015 on my PC.  I have been pleased with it for about 6 years.  I have considered maybe doing Quickbooks desktop for windows with a small laptop or something that would just be for my accounting but don't know if I want to go through that expense either.  I've tried the online version and hate it, plus it will cost about $35/month after the initial 6 month deal of $17/month.  I also do not want to have my financial information held by Quickbooks and prefer a desktop version where I am in control of my information.  Quickbooks is discontinuing their Mac desktop version next year.  I have reviewed a few Mac alternatives and am leaning towards a product called Accountedge.  They offer a desktop version for Mac for $399 (one time fee and optional yearly updates for $199).  As a designer, I need to do estimates, basic income/expense tracking, time tracking, mileage tracking, etc.  I would be interested to hear about your recommendations and experiences.

  8. I've been playing around with this again today and have figured out what is happening.  Here are my settings for sending.  I've had to uncheck "use edge line defaults".  For some reason on my PC, I know this was always checked when I sent to layout and would still show different line weights in layout.  Don't know why this worked on my old PC and now requires to be unchecked on my Mac.  Oh well, problem solved.

  9. I seamed to have lost the ability to control line weights on my elevations sent to layout.  I recently switched from PC to iMac.  Previously on my PC setup, I had my exterior elevations layer set set up with thicker line weights for the roof plane, corner boards for a thicker perimeter look from the rest of the lines.  I usually send my elevations to layout as plots lines vs. live view and change the pattern lines to a lighter gray.  That worked fine for me on PC (see attached sample).  I had a similar setup with my floor plans with main layer walls having a thicker line weight.  Since I've switched to iMac, I seamed to have lost the ability to control my elevation line weights like I did before.  I didn't change anything in my layer sets.  My floor plan line weights show just fine like before but my elevations don't.  The only way I can control the elevation line weights is to use edge line defaults.  Which I don't want because this will change the windows line weights as well.  I don't understand if I missed a setting somewhere when switching to Mac but my floor plans are working fine like before.

  11. I did also try this earlier as well.  It does display correctly but I am wanting to have it at 1/4" scale.  Sending as an image does not work unless you do some resizing afterword.  Also, I don't think it would update itself if changes were made to the elevation in Chief.

  12. Anyone know why when I send this elevation to layout, layout is cropping the background image only, to the edge of the model and not the layout box?  I have a background scene set up to display behind my elevation (i'm using watercolor style).  When I send it to layout, layout crops the background portion only.  Even though my layout box is bigger, which should display more of the background, it appears to crop the background only to the extent of the house model, (notice the ridge on top, the overhang on right side, to the deck on the left side).  I'm sending to layout using current screen and live view.  I have the background set in my 3D view defaults.  I have also tried sending it to layout using entire plan/view and get the same thing.

  13. Any suggestions on how to modify a foundation wall to accept a top chord bearing floor truss?  I can not seam to find any information from Chief, knowledge base or forum topics.  I just want 1 foundation wall at the front entry to be higher than the rest and have the top chord bearing trusses.  The other 3 sides of the house can be conventional bottom bearing floor trusses.  Are there any places to set the height of an individual foundation wall higher than the rest of them.  In 3D, I've found I can manually adjust the height of the top of the wall but don't know if this is the only way.  I also have to manually bring up the bottom of the main level wall as well so the siding show correctly.

Set the path in Preferences > General > Folders > My Data Folder

I have mine set to D:\Dropbox\Chief Architect Premier X9 Data\

It looks like my Chief Architect Premier X9 Data file is 4.72 GB and looks like I would need to upgrade my Dropbox space.  Is this file size close to the size of yours?  Looks like I need to set the path to all the files in the data file and not just the library file?

Thanks Mick, The 1st link does not address how to do this.  The 2nd link (making the walkout wall in to a pony wall) is what I tried, which is looking good in 3D but will not give me the below grade foundation wall in my foundation plan view. (see attached images on original post)

You nee to turn your walkout wall into poly walls (upper wall siding and lower foundation) in elevation view to make it easy.. click on the wall and pull down your footing to meet code requirement you need ... on the sides for step footing break the wall and do the same

Thanks Jonboy, I've already made the wall into a pony wall with framed wall above and 12" icf wall below grade.  What I am wanting to know is how to properly show this below grade foundation wall on the foundation plan.
