Chief For Commercial? Where Do You Think It Lacks?
GLOBE-Res replied to CARMELHILL's topic in General Q & A
Ok, so, from what I have read, Chief needs to be used in conjunction with another package, like ACAD or even Sketch-Up. Chief's 2D CAD is or has been, Painfully lacking. Presently I use a combination of Sketch-Up, Chief and ACAD, each for their strengths. I have a business model for architecture that Real Estate uses. The biggest issue is scalability from one office to the next office. It seems that Chief has a real potential to scale with other software packages in mutual support of each other. To try to accomplish the entire range of building types with just one platform is probably not there and rightly so. For residential, Chief is fine. For Lite commercial, it's reaching it's limits and for heavy commercial, it's not going to do the job. But it has it's strengths, as we all do. So, use it for it's strengths and supplement the other needs with other software. After all, one doesn't need to have the newest version each software platform. Just my humble observations.- 25 replies

Does anyone here use Chief to do commercial buildings? If so, what are the Pros and Cons to using Chief to do Commercial type projects? I have some limited experience with Revit that from discussions with heavy users of Revit, that program has add-ons to do MEP as well as Structural, Civil etc.

Joey, Oh? I'm not familiar with Marcos. Is there a tutorial for learning how to create marcos?
-
Curt, Yep, got that, but I'm trying to have the Room TITLE say at 10 and the Room Interior Dimensions at say 5 so that it looks like this: Garage 23' x 29'
-
I'm seeing that Joey's method is not "Smart text" for the room , is that correct?
-
Is there a way to have a room title at one size and the room size at a smaller size? Living Room/Study 17' x 13'

Thanks Dave! Looks like I'm not the only one burning the evening oil. I was able to get my printing to work. This version is really due for an update. The version I am using at my client's office, x7, is really so much better. Looks like I need to bite the bullet and upgrade. Thanks again!

Hi folks, At the office I'm working in presently we have CAx7. But at home office I still have 9.5. I'm having trouble setting up my printer preferences in this older version. Can anyone help me walk thru getting my printer set up with this group?

How Do I Insert An Image Into A Question On The Forum?
GLOBE-Res replied to GLOBE-Res's topic in General Q & A
I was wondering if there was a way, like in Outlook, to actually do an "Insert" rather than an "Attach File". Nope that doesn't work. Or, I'm not using it correctly. -
How Do I Insert An Image Into A Question On The Forum?

Here is my issue: -
How do I insert an image in this space? If I can show you my issue, you might be able to answer quicker.

Ok so at this point, the answer is no, CA does not permit or have a way to increase the size of icons independently inside the software. Is that correct?
-
Joe, I was just kidding hehehe. But yes, it's important that we are here to make our use of a great software even better. I just wish I could see it better! lol

This reminds me of the epic scene where Kirk gets in Spock's face to cause Spock to become emotionally compromised where by Spock physically attacks Kirk, whereby Spock relieves himself due to his inability to carry on his commission.....This is exciting...I Like this site...

Unfortunately I see ( no pun intended ) that this isn't an issue solely on me.

This is the size of the icons and text now - This is font size 14. This is about the size that I want the icons - This is font size 48. I don't want to keep squinting & switching between my buck $2.98 Walmart reading glasses to the "Chief Architect glasses". So, help me out folks, what can I do to prevent early blindness?
-
Um, then what? That button is checked and the icons are Still Teeny Tiny.
-
I don't want to start changing my Windows setting or my Video card when I work with CA. All of my other software packages are fine. I was hoping that within CA, I can resize icon size, toolbar text size, dropdown icon and text size.
-
Again, referring to ACAD, because it is my point of reference, I can change the size of icons in preferences. Where can I do this in CA?
-
This is X7. EVERYTHING is super small LOL!
-
Ok I'll admit it, I'm getting older. Is there a way to make the icons larger? Instead of using a telescope or sitting 6 inches from the monitor, what can I do?

Setting The "active" Layer For Linework, Text, Etc.
GLOBE-Res replied to GLOBE-Res's topic in General Q & A
Yep, Great help folks, Thanks. There are a ton of practices that make using this software platform quite nice. It's the simple fact of condensing years of collected experience into hours. lol -
Setting The "active" Layer For Linework, Text, Etc.
GLOBE-Res replied to GLOBE-Res's topic in General Q & A
Perry, Yep I'd agree to some level. With ACAD I can do Layouts with great similarity to CA. Layers do work well and the only thing is that with CA you can create "SETS". Those do help. So once I get that figured out, I'll be fine. -
Setting The "active" Layer For Linework, Text, Etc.
GLOBE-Res replied to GLOBE-Res's topic in General Q & A
Bob ( Preston ), Woo Hoo that's the ticket! That works Great! Because I am still slowly moving back and forth and eventually to Chief, Especially when doing Line work for details and sections, having specific things on specific layers is essential. Once I get more set up with things this probably won't be an issue. But this works great, thanks. -
Setting The "active" Layer For Linework, Text, Etc.
GLOBE-Res replied to GLOBE-Res's topic in General Q & A
Old habits die hard. As a long time AutoCAD user, the freedom to simply click on the layer that is to be active is appealing to me. Having to set up a Set seems to be forcing me to do something that I don't have flexibility to do something on the fly. I just have to reconfigure my mind set when using the software.
