  1. That was it! I must have hit some shortcut on accident. Thank you!
  2. Good Evening All, Until just now (or I just realized it now) when I selected an object (wall, cabinet, CAD, etc.) on the bottom right of the window I would get the "information" on that selected object. Now it is gone. Is there an option that I turned off on accident? Thanks
  3. I have a really odd situation. I am modeling a "camp" that has some non-traditional framing. There is an overhang of about a foot on a section of the second floor. The two floors have differing heights. When I try to model the overhangs, where there is a first floor below, iCA automatically adjusts the floor under the overhang to the other side (See attached). How can I stop that automatic floor change? CA allows my differing floor heights in adjacent rooms. When I try to frame the overhang on the side with the room below adjacent... Ceiling automatically adjusts to the adjacent ceiling height. Thanks in advance for the help. I am sure it is something simple. \ Ceiling Height Question.zip
  4. Rgardner: I don't believe that I had adjusted any walls from default in the model, but I will check. How did you get to that screen? It does nt look familiar... Garybills: Mine usually does in other models/files as well. Now that I can't seem to get these to go away, I am interested in knowing why in this model it is different from the rest. Mtldesigns: Not listed as an attic wall.
  5. I know that there is a simple answer to this but I can't seem to figure it out and I am getting impatient! When I create an automatic Roof and ignore the 2nd floor to create a Cape type roof, but without the knee walls, the second floor walls remain, see image. I thought that there was a way to have the roof cut those walls off at their (roof and wall) interface?
  6. Thanks guys. Much appreciated. I was pondering if I could get the dormers how I want them, explode them, then hide the walls, but was hesitent. Thanks again. Much appreciated. Adam
  7. Dormer Question… I have been messing around with both the dormer tools in CA, along with manually creating dormers. I can kinda create the dormers the way I want them to look with all three options, though each option is a bit different for various reasons (Like I can’t get the auto dormer to start near the peak). What I can’t seem to figure out is how to get rid, hide, remove, etc. the wall that is on the sides of the dormers in the plan view. I know it needs to be there when build (either as a wall or floating over rafters), but it looks odd in plan view. With the Floating Dormer those side walls show but allows for the room to be considered as a single large room. With the Auto Dormer it is creating three separate rooms. Question: 1) How do I show this as more of a single room in plan view without the walls making it appear as if it is broken up (floating dormer) 2) How do I Make a single large room when using the Auto Dormer method? 3) Why can’t I get to the peak on the Auto Floating Former methos? 4) Why the heck are my files so huge when trying to load here... Thanks Garage Dormer Question.zip
  8. Solver.... Thank you for that video. Seems so obvious once you started working on it. Forgot about that dialog box "roof cuts wall.." Much appreciate it. This one perplexed me. Seemed so simple.
  9. Rgardner I thought I was doing just that. Perhaps it is the ceiling plane that is messing it up?
  10. Sorry.. looked like it was selling something. No offense meant.
  11. Any ideas other than the sales pitch above? No matter what I do to this, I can't figure out the porch end wall? Thanks
  12. I am trying to create a vaulted porch ceiling hat continues from the living space with the same geometry as the interior vaulted space. I am using scissor trusses with a raised 14" energy heel. I will carry that same truss outside, though I don 't need it. I have a few questions: 1) How do I create the wall in that open space above? 2) I created the ceiling planes to start at the 109 1/8? top plate level, but the heel raises the fascia and it looks odd. I can't seem to create attic walls near the fascia? 3) Should I be defining this room as a Porch? Plan attached.. Thanks Vaulted Porch Ceiling.zip
  13. I did not find anybody... Who is "TwinMotion"? I am still looking for these services. Thanks
  14. Well... I saved the file, closed it, went back in and tried to adjust the SWT int he absolute elevations....and it worked. Must been "locked" somehow... Thanks all
  15. I am trying to figure out how to properly model in the rooftop balcony. I can think of many ways to brute force method it, but was looking for some guidance on how others do it on here? I am guessing that I would need to model the ceiling str above the garage (where the balcony is) as a roof, then slope it 1/4" per foot. That gives me the proper roof pitch, but also would need to drop it to accommodate for the sleepers, decking, drop from door threshold, etc. IS there a way to represent the sleepers that make the deck floor "flat" in CA? Perhaps I could make another roof plane and flip the pitch but that would not give me the "triangular" sleeper shape? Thanks
  16. I am trying to simply raise my SWT, while keeping the floor elevation and ceiling heights the same, but I can't seem to do that? When I change the SWT, it changes the Rough Ceiling Height, then I change the Rough Ceiling Height Back, and it drops my floor... and I continue the cycle changing values in different order to try and make it work. Does it perhaps have anything to do with my foundation values locking it? This is not specific to this house/model (it is only a shell), but I seem to be trapped in this loop often. How to modify that SWT properly and keep my other values intact? Thanks In the image below, I only want to change the values of the SWT to Ceiling and floor to SWT... Main Barn expansion_AJD.plan
  17. Hmmm... See if this one works... apologies. Rooftop Balcony.zip
  18. Good Evening. I am trying to model a rooftop deck over a garage for a relatively simple house. Once I figure out how to get the file under the size limit I will post the file for your viewing pleasure. I zipped this one to see if that would work Would I model the ceiling structure (and the main deck str) as a roof that I pitch at 1/4" - per foot (about 1.9°) and land on a wall that the top plate has been dropped about 8.5" to accommodate the sleepers, decking, slope, and drop of deck below door threshold? Then build a floor on top of that roof somehow to give the appearance of a flat surface? There are other items on the model that I need to address, but this is the one that stumped me (full disclosure, I am not an expert at this software at all, ha!) Kinda stumped on how to model it correctly so it looks right. I guess I could sit there for a long time cutting/drafting a section in AutoCAD, but I would rather find a way to represent it in Chief properly. Thanks Rooftop Balcony.zip
  19. worked thanks. I was looking for that "Roof Cuts Wall at Bottom" ability for hours. Looked right at it! Thanks again!

  21. Terrain was making the file large. Deleted that layer... Here is the plan... Also not sure why my software and hardware is not in my signature... sorry X13Exterior Attic Wall 03.24.2022.plan
  22. Thanks. Tried that. Any idea how to reduce the file size so I can post here? It isn't a very big house?
  23. Working on a very small house trying to duplicate a model that has been built locally a few times to learn the software better. I can't seem to figure out how to extend this exterior attic wall over the lower gable Can't load the plan since it is oversized??
  24. HAs CA produced any training vids on balconies or roof top decks? I have searched the archives and see some topics that partially address what I am trying to do. I don't have a plan created yet. I am wanting to get it right the first time. Thanks
