probably should be in seeking services. Never used auto cad. I only know chief (50% at that)_ and I am a builder. Have client that I am building She wanted some changes and needed fast .The architect told her three weeks. So I said i would try. I imported into chief and realized I could make changes in chief. It was completely different than how we draw individual plans not layered separate drawings for elect foundation ect. The I was trying to dimension but it was slow dragging feeling. really slow so I called chief and they tried to help, told me to turn what you dimension to off ect. Si I bought auto cad for a month stupid idea could not figure anything out. I am trying to move the center of the house 4 ft in a unit so I group selected and it worked in auot cad do you have to do each drawing O if anyone wanted to do a rush rush job I would send Adam

Woke up to my engineer text that this will be a requirement. If something happens to me He can make the changes. Does someone want to give me a quote to do this I have 9 pages of drawings

What I did was convert the entire layout sheet to cad then to export to dwg A layout page has notes details floor plans as this is what he requested He wanted everthing in DWG I am asking more out of curiosity. Why would someone want this and would the AutoCAD user be able to scale everything

Hi My engineer just requested I send the complete plan to him in dwg to review. I have sent parts in the past and I have sent floor plans but never the entire lay out sheet. I experimented by taking a layout page and using the convert to cad tool then export that view to dwg If you were sent that can you work on that in auto cad?? Is it to scale?? because it is coming from the layout. The layout may have multiple details at different scale I usually just print plans and engineer redlines or I pdf and they mark up Thanks Adam

I was wandering if anyone uses drop box I have been using drop box storing all my files into drop box not my hard drive. Working on my lap top and shop computer. I never had a problem until recently. Lost everything in my layouts. Called tech support said that drop box can cause us to lose info. They suggested that I store on hard drive and save as to drop box file. Found my lay out in the archives and salvaged that plan. The first time that I saved on hard drive then saved to drop box file on lap top and opened on my office computer layout was gone again.Have lap top next to me and everything was fine on lap top plan and layout.but not office. computer. Lay out was missing associated files Just curios if anyone else uses drop box Thanks Adam

I am not that best with chief but we use multiple plate heights in Florida all the time The back of the plan is how I treat different plate heights I I have used sloping of the roof like some one posted but I personal never liked but builders do it all the time like that. I did not know how to do front with extra ridge kine without jogging the porch Adamporch sep roof .planthird ridge line.plan

Hi Has anyone experiences the defaults jumping all over. I have reset at least 10x set Text to text layer @1/4 jumps to plot plan This is happening with text layers dimensions and markers I reset they jump back. It is making me nuts. Also same folder that this is happening with I did save as new folder When I went back to work everything was gone in the new folder except two walls Went back to original that I save from and everything was also gone except two walls. I recovered everything thru the archive folder. ion that was missing also Thanks In advane Adam

I am a builder in Florida and I would highly recommend Chief. I am a small builder and I draw my own plans. Chief will give you credibility with the customer. Never used Sketch up appears to be a generic program Not just of r residential construction. I have gotten to the point I hate building when I did not draw the plan. Adam

I am supposed to build the house in excess of a million dollars. I did not draw and it is the worst plan I have ever seen. all the plans I have been associated with built or drew has the the front of the house on the bottom of sheet It is kinda disorienting having back where front should be. Then instead of reducing scale to 3/16 to fit on a one 24 x 26 page they used match line. 22 pages to flip thru. a lot of over the top details like building a commercial 4 story building. Met engineer told me to get over it Owner spent three dollars a foot already ($ 21,000 ) and would let me change engineer but does not want to spend any more so if I had them send in dwg and I import would I see what is on the paper like our layout sheet in chief and then try and alter in cad I have already modeled the house in Chief that is always the fun part that impresses your customer Sorry to vent and ramble. Hi I want to import a complete plan 22 pages to modify drawn in auto cad I have never done this before. Does auto cad send to a layout page like chief? Will i get a complete page like what I see in paper format? Then I can just modify? Thanks in advance Adam

I wish it could but all vertical bars are the x have to show where everything goes doors windows The building departments expect it. The problem I go to foundation turn off all layers except main when I am adding cad to the main walls they do not snap because they are not cad. It works well when I convert the whole floor plan to a cad detail I can go pretty quick. It is better to be attached for changes. This barn I was drawing 249 ft was completely done when owner realized he needed to take 5 feet off it changed everything on plan 6 inch form each stall ect. I am changing whole plan (getting paid) but I give huge discount

Hi I have taken DHall advise and started experimenting with wall layer to create a monolithic foundation and show all the steel ect. which is all cad I am not going to cad detail trying to keep foundation attached to main house. Problem you have to constantly keep using the tab key to get to my cad lines ect and not select whole wall and doors . Am I missing something I seem to remember back in an old version of chief you would hit a icon to switch to cad mode so I would only be selecting cad is there a way to do that in these new versions Thanks in advance Adam

I can not thank you enough. I wish i posted 10 years ago I think I will be able to make the plan footprint with main layer for wall only tuned on can be the foundation plan and it is still attached. I would of save 4 hours yesterday alone Thanks Again Adam
