  1. Has anyone tried to build a roof that is curved in plan? I guess this is just too difficult to program for auto building. I note that the edges of roof planes cannot be converted to arcs, which makes sense if no set up for auto framing. Does anyone have a suggestion for forming the body, or solid form of the roof? I guess it would be part of a conical shape. Floor plan is attached, to show the general shape that I am talking about.
  2. Hi Glen I think that only works in 3d or cross section view? I'm thinking about drawing 2d details. It seems that nothing quick is available so I'll keep doing what I normally do. Thanks all.
  3. Hey - thanks guys! I was just a little hopeful. Thanks for your ideas Michael. I'll let you know if it happens again
  4. Hi Chopsaw, I also didn't think you could break up a cross cad box, but I fumbled on the key board and then when I selected the cad box it had become cad lines. Perhaps I inadvertently created a cad detail, but I didn't find a new cad detail. I might be dreaming. I often draw up a 2d detail using cross cad boxes at the stage where I'm working out how something is going to be built. Then when I want to cut down the detail to fit on the layout, typically this happens with a window head detail and I don't need to show the whole lintel, just the flashing detail above the window facing. I then draw over the cad box with a rectangular polyline and cad lines so that I can draw a break line over that and cut it (having deleted the cad box). It would be quicker if the cad box could just be broken up into its lines. The pdf shows what I mean. Typical window detail.pdf
  5. I just accidentally broke a cross cad box into polyline & cad lines by hitting a set of key strokes that I can't repeat as I don't know what they were. Does anyone know what the key strokes are to do this? Would be handy when putting a detail break line through a cad box.
  6. Interesting comment - thanks! So I assume you have no regrets about switching?
  7. Thanks again - good things to think about.
  8. Thanks for those responses. cv2702: My understanding was that the slowing down was something to do with the build up of file storage being scattered over the hard drive meaning that a program has to spend more time finding and piecing together all the fragmented bits. I haven't done it very often but defrag doesn't seem to make a big difference.
  9. Thanks for your replies. One of the common things that happens with a new computer, and my only experience is with PC, is that they're nice and fast when new and gradually slow down over a year or so. I wonder if Mac is also prone to this?
  10. Does anyone have an opinion about pros and cons between Mac and PC as platforms for Chief Architect?
  11. Thanks again Curt. Glen - no I don't believe that is the problem. Another thing that might be related is that every now & then various Snap settings drop out and I have to reset them. I guess I will have to call tech support. Regards Ian
  12. Nope - still happening. Allowed Angles selected, file saved, copy & paste, allowed angles lost(back to 15 degree setting) HP Pavillion computer, Windows 8.1 64 bit, AMD A10-6700 APU with Radeon HD Graphics 3.7GHz 16 GB RAM
  13. Thanks very much for your response Curt. I'll try those suggestions.
  14. I recently upgraded to X6 from X2. I'm really enjoying the improvements. There's one annoying little thing that always happened in X2 and is still happening in X6. When drawing cad details, when I have copied and pasted an object the Plan Default Allowed Angles generally switches back to the 15 degree setting all on its own. I have to open the Plan defaults dialogue and then select enter to reset to 71/2 degrees and additional angles selection. (In X2 I also had to reselect the 71/2 deg.... setting). Anyone else familiar with this and is there a fix. It really slows down the drafting. Ian
