  1. I'm having trouble with my second floor exterior walls when I do a story and 1/2 plan using a loft with railing. When I raise the ceiling height and apply the railing it leaves holes on both sides.  Can anyone suggest a video that explains this?  I've attached the plan I'm working on.  Thanks in advance for any input. I'm using x7 on a mac.

  2. Is there a setting to change my auto interior dimensions to measure from the inside of the walls?  Right now they measure from drywall surface on interior wall to the exterior surface of the perimeter wall.  Thank you any guidance.

  3. I'm stumped on a porch roof issue....

If I auto build a porch roof it always changes my existing roof line.  When I manually build a porch roof then none of the roof tools work.  Tech support told me that when you manually draw a roof then the wall (roof tool menu) no longer communicates to the roof?  What am I missing?  I just want to manually draw a gable porch roof.  I've attached the plan.  I also haven't figured out how to get the upper and lower pitch feature to work when I draw manually.

  4. I'm using Premier 7.  Isn't there a tool that will allow me to copy my window options and add them to selected windows?  Basically i went in an changed a bunch of window options and I want to copy them over to existing windows without having to do each one individually.  Thanks in advance  for any input.

  5. Perry,

I'm sure you're right and I'm not here to make enemies.  I'm at work on a deadline and maybe just didn't appreciate using my thread to make side comments.  I just discovered this page and didn't realize the most effective way to get help.  I completely understand the need to post plans and will always post with my questions in the future.  The people on here have been amazing and I greatly appreciate any help that they offer.  I guess I took it the wrong way that instead of messaging me, he chose to interfere with someone who was willing to help. Peace and Love....Peace and Love....;)

  6. Mick,

Thanks again for the advice.  Hopefully I got the signature correct.  Thank you also for the feedback.  I enjoy helping others and can't thank you enough for taking the time out of your day to help me.  Hopefully someday I can return the favor.

  7. DS Hall....My name is Randy.  I'm using Premier x7.  I have been asked twice to post my plan and both times I did.  If you had asked me directly I would have answered any of these questions.  I'm sure you've helped others and that is wonderful but trolling new users on this forum doesn't help anyone.  This doesn't make you an old stalwart...is makes you an ass.  i've had excellent help from the pros on this page and I am forever thankful for their time and guidance.  You should follow your own courtesy advice and stay out of a topic if you are not willing to contribute to a solution.  Trolling is for teenagers!

  8. Thanks for helping Mick.

DSHall.....some of us are new to this software....sorry I didn't auto post my plan.  Unfortunately tech support hasn't been able to answer my questions so I have only found help on here.  No need to be rude....keep your money in your pocket thanks!

  9. Here's as far as I got.  Without auto build roof planes the wall reference tools don't work.  I'm forced to auto build because I need to put an accent gable in the porch roof.  If you scroll up you'll see the version that CJ posted which is correct....I just haven't been able to reproduce.

  10. Mountaineer:

If you want a gable on your 3:12 deck roof outlining your entry door you can do that auto build BUT, before you can get the roof to come out properly, you need to determine exactly where the 3:12 and 10:12 roof pitches intersect ... therefore you need to know the distance in from the baseline or the elevation of the intersection point.  Without knowing that, this is what you will get:

If you must try to do this roof in auto build mode, what I recommend you do is manually build a short 10:12 roof on the side of the house opposite the front deck; select it and copy/reflect around the center axis of your main house to paste it on the front deck side; change the roof pitch to 3:12 and build a short roof section over your deck wall; then select the up-pitch side of the 3:12 roof plane, hit #2 (connect roof planes), and select the lower edge of the adjacent 10:12 roof plane to join them.  Where the 3:12 and 10:12 roof planes intersect is where you get the missing information.  I would suggest just measuring from the outer edge of your deck railing wall to the roof planes intersection point (do this in plan view).  Select and copy that horizontal measurement into the railing walls roof tab for upper roof pitch distance from baseline.  Knowing that and having it put in the dialog should allow you to auto build the roof.

But, why not just do it manually ... your done in a jiffy and probably takes much less time.

Would you be willing to share the measurements that you used to get the final picture?  I keep trying and cannot get my roofline to stay intact.

  11. I still can't keep my roofline from splitting?  I've tried every measurement but no luck.  Is there any way to get the wall reference tools to work with a manual roof plane?

  12. Thanks Kurt!  That broken roof line is exactly what I got.  I had no problems building them manually but then I couldn't figure out how to add the porch gable?
