  1. Hello All,

I have a basic directory question.  On my new Windows PC, Chief is getting bogged-down when searching for the simplest library items.  It's making me wonder if I have the directory files in the right location.  Maybe someone can see something horribly wrong with how it is installed:

Chief is on the C Drive in the typical Program Files location.

I have my plan files located in a folder I created within the Chief folder, also on C drive, ending in TLC.

Libraries are installed in my Windows User Profile.

  2. Hello Everyone,

I'm hoping someone may know why I'm having this new issue (which didn't exist on my prior computer).  Chief is crashing in simple 3-D Orthographic and Perspective Camera modes, and has even crashed when entering the wall specification dialog box simply to adjust wall layers.  Also, certain functions like editing window labels, won't even switch the view to the "Labels" tab to allow me to edit the labels.

Though I would love to, I don't have money to upgrade Chief.

    PC Specs:

    i-7-8700 CPU @ 3.20GHz

    32 GB RAM, 6 Cores

    Windows 10 PRO 64-Bit Ver. 22H2

    AMD Radeon RX 580 2048SP

    GDDR5

    Any thoughts would be appreciated!

  3. Hello Everyone,

I'm hoping to find someone who makes physical 3-D models from Chief Architect X7.  I have a pretty simple house on a steep lot with retaining walls and planter boxes, and it would be very helpful to have a physical model to show our subcontractors to avoid overruns and delays.

This project went through several evolutions in Chief and the resulting file has the sub-basement on the basement level of Chief, the basement on the first level, etc. for four stories.

    The lot is 100' x 231'.

Let me know if you can help,

    Thanks,

    Tim

  4. Hello,

I've learned to draft in the field while using terrible construction drawings.  I never pursued AIA certification, but I've been turning out plans for a few decades now.  I never did much rendering so that's not my strong area.  I'm accustomed to nuts and bolts plans for home builders and homeowners.

I've attached on set of sample plans.

I'm using X7 (don't beat me up too badly for that).

    Thanks for visiting!

  5. I just tested an import of .pdf into PowerPoint and it failed.  Why?  Because that's what my old school boss asked for.  I've asked how he intends to share this information but he hasn't responded.

If I could generate the presentation within Chief, that seems easier, but what if he wants fancy transitions?

  6. Hello All,

I've read some threads but didn't see my issue exactly, so here we go....

I need marketing floor plans for use in PowerPoint to obtain financing from a bank.

I'm using the Export Picture feature, and trying to find an appropriate setting upon which Importing into PowerPoint, the jagged edges are gone and text is legible.  I've found the "Do Not Reduce" image size setting in PowerPoint and checked the box.  I've tried exporting floor plan views from Chief at various Pixels/Inch, but they all appear the same.

My screen resolution is 1920 x 1080.  Do I need to reduce my screen resolution?

Thanks in advance, and I'm sorry I still us X7.

  7. I appreciate your persistence!  I have tried using all room types, and now I'm using a Deck with a slab (it's a concrete stoop).  I have the deck railings set correctly and I'm using panels on the deck railings to achieve cable railings.  Inside railing defaults, I have selected the Rail Syle will be Panels and will Follow Stairs. I drew a landing in the basement to give the stairs a starting height of -60".

Best I can tell, Draw Railing only makes the railings appear in plan view, which I don't want, but I'm playing along hoping to find a solution!  What am I missing?

  8. The terrain is on the first floor, and the foundation walls are the ones I'm having an issue with.  The problem is, what stacks upon the foundation walls are the railings.  I drew railing walls on the first floor for that, and I guess that's the problem.  I'm not sure if I made the foundation walls Pony walls and adjust all the heights...doesn't seem worth the effort.  I guess I'll opt for the polyline.

  9. They're all foundation walls, and I've used the Porch room definition.  It's a room, with a negative floor height (basement level).  I just tried to use the Slab room definition and even the Closet room, but nothing changes regarding the terrain.  Puzzling...

  10. I must be overlooking something simple.  Why isn't the terrain recognizing the foundation walls and clipping itself to the outside of these walls?   I see the option for Terrain Retaining Wall inside the wall specification dialog box, but that automatically adjusts the top of the wall, and I'd like my wall heights to remain unaffected.
