  1. Hi Glenn, Thank you for your suggestion. I think we'd be open to that as well. Tim
  2. Hello Everyone, I'm hoping to find someone who makes physical 3-D models from Chief Architect X7. I have a pretty simple house on a steep lot with retaining walls and planter boxes, and it would be very helpful to have a physical model to show our subcontractors to avoid overruns and delays. This project went through several evolutions in Chief and the resulting file has the sub-basement on the basement level of Chief, the basement on the first level, etc. for four stories. The lot is 100' x 231'. Let me know if you can help, Thanks, Tim REV_003_Grading Plan 11-10-23.pdf Myers Plans 36x24 11-06-23.pdf
  3. Hello, I've learned to draft in the field while using terrible construction drawings. I never pursued AIA certification, but I've been turning out plans for a few decades now. I never did much rendering so that's not my strong area. I'm accustomed to nuts and bolts plans for home builders and homeowners. I've attached on set of sample plans. I'm using X7 (don't beat me up too badly for that). Thanks for visiting! Tim C. TimCeb@gmail.com
  4. I suppose if the boss wants fancy transitions between pages, that's what I'll be required to do. Thanks for the tip!
  5. Thanks for that explanation! I hadn't considered using the top down camera view either.
  6. I did attempt the screen capture, but it resulted in a little distortion. I used my layout as Eric suggested, and I think that'll get me through this assignment. I appreciate all the outside-the-box advice from you both!
  7. I just tested an import of .pdf into PowerPoint and it failed. Why? Because that's what my old school boss asked for. I've asked how he intends to share this information but he hasn't responded. If I could generate the presentation within Chief, that seems easier, but what if he wants fancy transitions?
  8. Hello All, I've read some threads but didn't see my issue exactly, so here we go.... I need marketing floor plans for use in PowerPoint to obtain financing from a bank. I'm using the Export Picture feature, and trying to find an appropriate setting upon which Importing into PowerPoint, the jagged edges are gone and text is legible. I've found the "Do Not Reduce" image size setting in PowerPoint and checked the box. I've tried exporting floor plan views from Chief at various Pixels/Inch, but they all appear the same. My screen resolution is 1920 x 1080. Do I need to reduce my screen resolution? Thanks in advance, and I'm sorry I still us X7. Tim
  9. Just wondering if any design-build Chief users discovered a good resource for new construction checklist templates? I'm trying to improve quality control in the field by putting checklists in the hands of my project managers. Thanks!~
  10. OHHHHH, I didn't know I was drawing a wall that wasn't part of the deck to create the railing that follows the stairs! Oh, the light bulbs are going off over here! Thanks you all!
  11. I appreciate your persistence! I have tried using all room types, and now I'm using a Deck with a slab (it's a concrete stoop). I have the deck railings set correctly and I'm using panels on the deck railings to achieve cable railings. Inside railing defaults, I have selected the Rail Syle will be Panels and will Follow Stairs. I drew a landing in the basement to give the stairs a starting height of -60". Best I can tell, Draw Railing only makes the railings appear in plan view, which I don't want, but I'm playing along hoping to find a solution! What am I missing?
  12. I keep revisiting this, but I just don't see it. I don't have the Draw Railing feature. I can draw a Newel/Baluster, but not Railings inside the stair dbx.
  13. Thanks for letting me know I was on the right track! I surely would not move all floors, but I did get each floor stretched independently and clean up appears to be manageable. I would be entitled to assistance via Chief since I don't maintain SSA, isn't that right?
  14. The client wants to add 3'9" to the overall length of a 4-story structure. I don't have a roof to worry about, but what's the most effective way to do this? I tried Edit Area (All Floors) but it's only moving the floor I'm on. VX7. Thank you!
  15. The terrain is on the first floor, and the foundation walls are the ones I'm having an issue with. The problem is, what stacks upon the foundation walls are the railings. I drew railing walls on the first floor for that, and I guess that's the problem. I'm not sure if I made the foundation walls Pony walls and adjust all the heights...doesn't seem worth the effort. I guess I'll opt for the polyline.
  16. They're all foundation walls, and I've used the Porch room definition. It's a room, with a negative floor height (basement level). I just tried to use the Slab room definition and even the Closet room, but nothing changes regarding the terrain. Puzzling...
  17. Yes, I have that selected. It must have something to do with these walls I'm using because the terrain recognized the building, just not the porches. Maybe it's the room specification?
  18. Mick, I can Draw a Newel/Baluster, but I don't see an option to Draw a railing. Am In in the right place? Thanks, Tim
  19. I must be overlooking something simple. Why isn't the terrain recognizing the foundation walls and clipping itself to the outside of these walls? I see the option for Terrain Retaining Wall inside the wall specification dialog box, but that automatically adjusts the top of the wall, and I'd like my wall heights to remain unaffected.
  20. Thanks Robert, but I think Eric may be right. I don't see the Panel option in the dialog box anywhere. It's hard to believe Chief would have released this ability on a deck, but not the stairs (not to be mean). I just wonder what Chief users did to represent the stair railings to match...?
  21. I can't seem to achieve cable railings on an exterior stair. I used walls to draw the porch, and a panel from the library on the wall dialog and I need to match the same on the stairs. I'm using VX7.
  22. Oh, also: I save my files very close to the hard drive, not in the Chief directory. I have a folder labeled Plans at C:Plans. Once you edit your preferences about where to look for and save files, you never need to think about this again. I have a shortcut to "Plans" in My Documents and on the Desktop.
  23. Yes, I have a parent folder that would be Smith Residence, and inside I would start with only one folder called Smith Current. I'd save my template inside that folder and start working. On day two, I create a folder dated yesterday and proceed working in Current. Back when Chief was young, I found myself taking these steps to preserve the layout links. I honestly don't know if you still need to, but I've never had an issue!
  24. Before I begin any changes to a plan, I copy the contents of the entire folder and save it with the date it was last modified. I ALWAYS only work in a folder labeled Current. Example: Smith Residence 9-02-19 Smith Residence 9-12-19 Smith Residence 9-13-19 Smith Residence Current It might be excessive, but it works. And I've been in the same position, having to abandon hours of changes and revert back to a prior version. Good Luck!
