So I found this helpful and useful video, absolutely loved it! Only problem I've come across, is that in a new project of mine, I have a majestic staircase that curves with a semi-circular wall. The problem I keep hitting is how to curved the cad lines in cross section view to achieve the same result that our friend here achieved but curved?

What about the settings of individual lights, sorry for all the questions just got really curious.
-
Jonboy I like the shot, simple and elegant. I wanted to ask how did you achieve the natural light meaning how lit up the whole room is? ray-trace contrast settings or added lights or? If you don't mind sharing the settings/lights you used, wanted to achieve something similar but been having a hard time, pre raytrace room is very lit but afterwards much darker and post ray-trace settings don't help achieve what it is I'm looking for. thanks ahead of time!

So yeah didn't import said the file isn't compatible and so on...well was worth a try, this weekend will try to download all the necessary conversion tools and play around with it as well.

Jcaffee thank you very much! gonna give ita go and see how it looks, also still haven't had the time to download all those programs to crunch and see how it goes with other furniture pieces. Thank you again!

https://1drv.ms/f/s!Akh8cPutNBnRzhttViw30jk5Me1t here is the link for the couch, if anybody can take a look and see what can be done I would be really grateful. (Forgot I have 105gb of storage with onedrive)

Chopsaw thanks for the link I'll definitely give it a try and let you know what came out of it! Graham: I also flipped it, what I wanted to ask if any recommendation on what cloud site to use to give you guys access to the couch and it's file? because for example as said the object properties say it has one material when in reality it should be split up into frame, legs, main couch cushions etc, and how I could apply each given material?
-
Thekitchenadobe: Thank you for your quick response, Marcmc is right, it's the couch that's the problem and I couldn't upload it due to size, if you can be bothered to use the link I provided and download it and see what happens? Also can you let me know when you imported which parameters did you change in advanced under interior fixture to make it stand right because I had issues having the object and it's box being one in the same etc, thanks! Marcmc: I'll try looking for the program and IF i find it and make it work I'll let you know!

Good Day/Evening all!! So, I know we all love to use the 3dwarehouse from sketchup and it's great, but sometimes you just can't find what you're looking for, not to mention creating a custom piece of furniture isn't always something you have time for. I ran into the following, found a website : https://3darch.org/3dmodel/contemporary-armchair-01-970 (example model) https://3darch.org/3dmodel/leather-sofa-cl03-979 (couch i wanted) I downloaded a couch, imported, well first of all it only had one material, meaning the leather and feet didn't have separate material options, second of all it had like 329,000 faces (I know on the chief website it says the more faces the worse it gets) My problem is once I imported and assigned a material to it, the couch was so amazing that in plain 3d view it looked like it had gone through ray trace all too well, BUT the system slowed the hell down like no other (I know faces). So I guess have a few questions, 1) Can I somehow modify these objects to have less faces and so they don't slow down the program to the point of URGHHH GRR? 2) If I can't, does anybody else know of any other great websites that have good furniture databases that are easy to import and good in detail? The brown couch comes out looking almost the same in 3d view. (couch is 48mb in size) Thanks for any and all help ahead of time! Carlton.obj

Maybe because in 3d I applied the wood texture? should have done it initially from the dbx?

tried and for some reason in the materials tab it shows two different colors but in 3d one.

So Chiefers good day/evening! Wanted a quick tip from somebody, is there any way that I can make let's say the interior part of a door white, whilst the exterior is dark brown? The point would be that if it's a door that separates the master bedroom and walk in closet, on the bedroom side it remains white with lites, while on the inside of the walk in, it would be brown? I'm pretty sure I remember having done this ages ago but for the life of me can't seem to remember how...(for renderings changing the color on each side each time is an option I know, but wondering what is the actual solution?) any and all tips will be appreciated!!

I agree very nice and cozy home!

So I after having gone through a few tutorials I decided to do a few a exterior ray traces of two different homes to see the results after all material definitions were changed as well as lighting and so forth. Here are the results, let me know your honest opinion everybody, thanks!

Imported material (JPEG) not rendering correctly in raytrace
limitless8 replied to MBagshaw's topic in General Q & A
I guess I'm a little too late, I have the exact same picture for a marble texture in my custom library and never had issues with it, as much as I like the chief library I tend to download images and create my own. -
Fabulous work! Now we all know it's not doable but that there is an expert we can consult when it comes to these hard tasks

I looked at Ithil's designs, and my oh my impressive. I wonder if it would be possible to achieve the same level renders in chief. BTW from what I read, Ithil does the sketchup design, and another graphics designer renders the images for him.

Chopsaw, Just got in and I'm afraid today won't be able to skype, maybe saturday/sunday; or during the week next week. Yeah Halloween came with some snow, which I'll take any day over shabby rain and clouds... Hmm need to find this comrade of mine and take a look at his renderings and all. one of my skypes is : limitless.trading@mail.ru

Thank you so much Greg! I guess I should download sketchup as well, seeing as it would be easier to create these custom symbols there and import them. Thanks again!

I see you managed to actually get it done, how??
-
Wow, barely anytime went by, and so many replies. Thank you everybody, I knew this wouldn't be easy in Chief or any other program for that matter; to try and put it inside the curve. I agree, if one would find a way to do it once, then you will become a guru at it for life. I'm a play around with a few variations and see what happens, who knows something might come out of it. Worst case scenario, I'll refer to my fellow countrymen (the russian as you said) and see if him and I can come to some understanding. Thanks everybody again!

Hey all! So I'd like to ask for some advice/assistance from those pro's with more experience. I am attaching two images to help explain what it is I am after for a client. In essence, the client wants many arches instead of doors within the house, but inside the actual arch itself, he'd want to see wainscoting/molding (not sure which would be the more appropriate in this case) Has anybody attempted to recreate such things, if so could you be please so kind and explain to me how it can be done? Big thanks to everybody ahead of time I know at chief all the pro's are a lot more friendly and cooperative than anywhere else! Limitless

Will do.

Of course and ahead of time thank you honestly. The plan is 135mb...(sorry about that). Sent.

I did use final view with shadows, the sun angle in all 3 was facing into the room, so maybe because the view is up close the shadows ended up being behind the camera. I'll be honest, I'm not satisfied meaning I was hoping to have gotten even more crisp final views, and greater realism (considering all objects were modified meaning the materials, bump maps and so on and so forth. I get this feeling that I'm close to realizing what is my mistake, but at the moment I can't yet put my finger on it.
