  1. Is there a way to create a arched soffit? I was using an arched valance to try and accomplish this. It seams like arching a soffit would be pretty easy but have yet to figure it out. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide Anthony
  2. I am trying to add finishes to exterior wall. I have the first portion of the wall to be stone, then siding and the gable to be shake. I think some could be with pony wall. However my second floor has approximatly 6 foot high exterior walls and 8 foot ceilings so I can not figure out how to change them. Please help. Thank you in advance. Anthony
  3. I completely agree. I have tried to point everything to use the Nvidia but to no success. Is it possible that I may have to remove the onboard card?
  4. Good Morning Chief users, I am running into an issue with my pop up screens. Computer spec attached with graphics card specs. My diagnosis of the monitors is that the laptop is running the intel graphics card and my extended monitor is using the Nvidia Here is an example of the executed steps that cause the issue. Open program from my Chief 12 shortcut on my desk top, if the program has been on my laptop screen it opens and runs fine. If I move the program to my larger screen and work it will work properly sometimes. I then will close the program on that screen and exit the program. I then re-open it from the Chief 12 short cut, it attempts to open on my large screen but will not completely open because of the Chief start up screen that pops up. I then have to close it through the task manager. If I open a plan that is saved on my smaller screen it bypasses the Chief start up and opens. Once I have it opened I can operate a little bit. While in plan view I can double click on a cabinet to edit and it will lock up and not completely open. If I attempt to do a 3D view it will lock up. For the pop ups for editing I have been able to drag them to the smaller screen and it seems to work. I have contacted Chief about this issue and their answer is that it is a program conflict and not their problem. I contacted Nvidia and they say it is also a conflict caused by Chief. MSI was also contacted and agreed with Nvidia. Has anyone else experienced this issue? I shouldn't have to figure out work arounds to draw on a large screen. Any help appreciated.

  7. Here is the updated plan file.
  8. Eric, i was able to import your wall into my layout but can not get it to frame. It frames everything but that wall. Am I missing anything? Gene, my engineer always reviews our projects as specs what is needed.
  9. Yes Eric, that is the closest one. I will open the one you sent and see what I can do and post any other questions. As usual, this group of Chief Architect users never ceases to amaze me with the want to help others. Awesome group, thanks!
  10. Eric, that is pretty close to what I am trying to create. I can then add in the PSL Post manually. I have been changing different items and found that if the exterior wall is balloon framed then I can place the windows higher and the way I'd like but still cant get it as close as you did on the first one. I must have settings wrong in the wall structure tab.
  11. So, on the second floor wall I have to uncheck retain framing? What are the correct settings in structural section for the main wall and the gable wall.
  12. Alaskan Son, that is the way I see it being build along with my engineer.
  13. Ideally on the exterior wall I want to have a PSL post extending up to support the structural ridge. I am going to duplicate that same PSL post in the kitchen wall. The structural ridge will extend back to the second floor wall and tie into a beam pocket.
  14. When I do framing over view I can see the framing on the inside gable but nothing on the exterior gable. I went through the help videos and cant get this correct. I want my wall to have a double top plate and then have the gable built to accept the windows. Hope that makes sence
  15. I added the plan, I am on V10. Will add the other items also, Thank you.
  16. Good Afternoon All, I am having issues with my drawing and could really use some help. This is a whole house renovation we are working on and I have viewed the help videos and still can not get my 2 gable walls to display properly. is there something I have set wrong or just plainly enough doing wrong. the issue is in the 4 season room. this is an addition to the back of the existing home, about 8 feet of the addition is in the kitchen and will have a 8' ceiling and the rest of the addition will have cathedral ceiling with either 2x8 or 2x10 rafters and close cell insulation to meet codes. Thank you in advance for any and all help! In some of the 3d and framing views from the interior looking out the gables are missing, also when I tell CA to re-frame it always changes items... 17. This happened to me with same version. Contacted chief and they were happy to charge me for a new key or a key entry method. I looked at the price of that and upgraded....have to say upgrading was the best choice!
  18. I am in the market for a new mouse. Can anyone recommend a good mouse that works well with chief or that they have had success with. I have been looking at pro models as well as gaming models. Thank you in advance! Anthony Costanzo CR, CLC
  19. David, Thank you very much for taking the time to make that video! Very helpful! We were going with the shed roof for the head room out the back so we can add additional bathroom and possibly 2 bedrooms. Chopsaw added the "dormer" style roof that will help with the head room and will optimize the usable floor space. I am going to attempt to recreate what you did and hope for the best out come! Again, thank you both for the help so far! Anthony Costanzo, CR
  20. Thank you for the help! No not first project but I was completely stumped on how to draw it in chief. Yes the chimney is being removed and all high efficiency units going in. we are opening up the whole right side of the house for a open floor plan. What i am still confused about is what were the actual steps to create it? just cant get my head around it and I'm sure it is quite simple just I'm missing it. thank you again! Anthony

Also attaching concept plan which has the addition to the rear of the house. I want to maintain the front elevation, existing ridge height etc. Rear addition is pulled in 1 foot on each side. just want a simple dormer/shed roof for the attic/upstairs. All help is greatly appreciated! Anthony Costanzo,CR Leindecker concept 1.plan Leindecker existing plan.plan
  22. Thanks Joseph, I have been into the library, they have a concrete poured wall detail but not one specific to trench footers. Thanks again for your input.
  23. Looking for some help with trench footer details. Does anyone have a cad detail of a trench footer? I am located in the Cleveland, Ohio market area and can not seem to get a good cad detail of one. Any help or ideas welcomed. Anthony
