  1. Hello everyone, I'm attempting to create a symbol from a molding polyline. I open a new plan, draw a rectangle, convert it to a molding polyline, take a full camera view, convert that to a symbol via the tool menu, store it in the library then attempt to use it. The problem arises when I store it in the library browser. The symbol doesn't look like the 3D object I took the camera view of. Instead, it appears as four of them joined together in a chain, which makes it fairly useless in the drawing I'm attempting to make. Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong? Thanks, Tom
  2. Anybody know how to adjust the size of the text for a plot plan on a large parcel? Reads awfully small when sent to layout but I'm unable to find a way to change it. Thanks, Tom
  3. That guide is great rlackore! Just what I was looking for! Thanks!
  4. Thanks rlackore. I'll have a good look at the guide you suggested. I was actually thinking of using the spray on application, (concentrate). Using it as an admix up where I'm building might be a problem due to all the things you mentioned. I'll have a look at the guide you recommended. I sure like the idea that you pour the wall, treat with Xypex, and you're ready to go. Impregnable. Termites be damned. I'm not too worried about warranty issues and if my mason helps out he'll be totally cool. He keeps hinting that he wants to come up and do it but I keep telling him I can't afford him, heh, heh.
  5. I figured since there are so many architects on here this might be a good place to ask this question. I'm thinking of building a structure out of concrete. Does anyone know of a detail whereby stone veneer is attached directly to the 8" thick concrete exterior walls? Will something like Xypex work as a moisture barrier? How would insulation work? Thanks, Tom
  6. Hi, Anyone know how to turn off the grid lines in 10 for a jpeg? Thanks, Tom
  7. Thanks for the tip Richard. I'll have to think on this and fool with it a bit but these are two approaches I haven't tried. I also have to change the length of the arc which may be a problem, just sitting here thinking about it. I'm working down in Big Sur these days for the fellow who introduced me to David so I don't have a lot of time to fuss with Chief or even get online. David has plenty of help these days so no worries there.
  8. Thanks Richard. This is Tom Papa by the way. How's things? David's house is holding up as well as can be expected with eight kids and a dog having the run of the place, heh, heh. I've actually tried connecting the dots and reforming the arc to the specified radius but that function seems to have tendency to change the location of the arc, and it's not behaving when I try to move it to the correct location. Doesn't seem like you can reorient it by cartwheeling it around one of the end points, if you know what I mean. The hand drawn plot plan was from the county records and has some obvious errors. Makes you wonder how accurate all those old surveys actually are.
  9. I'm attaching a jpeg of a portion of a parcel map that I don't understand. Any input from someone knowledgeable about the angle specified on the arc in the bearing nomenclature would be appreciated. Apparently the "basis of bearings" is the property line in the upper right hand corner of the drawing. What exactly is the relationship of "angle equals 25 degrees, 28 minutes and 44 seconds" to the "basis of bearings" line? And how is this plotted on Chief? Is this the tangent relative to the tangent where the "basis of bearing" line intersects the arc? ( I can't think of anything else it might be.) Do the bearings refer to tangents at property corners working progressively away from the "basis of bearing" line along the arc? If so, how do you get Chief to start drawing a specified arc from a specific tangent point? Thanks, Tom Or maybe this is all relative to the north arrow...? Definitely not clear to me, heh, heh.
  10. Great. Thanks. I'll give it a shot.
  11. I have a jpeg created from a photo of an old plan set that I imported to a plot plan in order to trace existing structures, trees, etc. onto some property lines. The property boundary was drawn using the numeric data on the plan. I believe the jpeg went to the same layer as the lines I drew. How do I change the layer the jpeg is on in order to be able to erase it from the drawing, yet leave it available for use, after the pertinent information is recorded? I'm assuming I can just turn a separate layer on and off. Thanks, Tom
  12. I thought I did that Glenn. I'll go back and try again. Thanks.
  13. That's what I input and got the boundary lines okay, then checked display angles, etc. in the line polyline specification dialogue, but it doesn't show the lettering. How do you get it to display those direction letters along with the angle?
  14. Hi, Anyone out there familiar with how to get the direction letters to display on bearing notations? I can get degree, minutes, seconds and distances to show up alright but it doesn't say which direction. Thanks, Tom
  15. Great. Now they're all going to be excommunicated.
  16. Great, thank you everyone.
  17. Upgraded lately and wondering how to get rid of unwanted text. When I send a drawing to layout it automatically notates "first floor". How to get rid of that? Thanks for the help.
  18. Thanks Michael. Looks like a few more hours to me. Just so long as it's not abnormal.
  19. Oh, I see what's timing out, the time tracker. Must still be installing. Anyone know why it's so slow? Is it just a ton of information?
  20. Hi, Does it usually take hours to install the core architectural catalog? Also, does anyone know how to keep it from timing out if I'm not actively using the program? Thanks
