    This sounds good.
I can't find the method for changing an Object's Layer (specifically Stairs in this case) unless it is in the Properties Popup.

    Found the answer.

That is not correct. I do not like to use invisible walls.  The invisible wall method will work but as I said it can get messy and I think Perry would agree.  The exterior stairs can easily be shown via ref sets.

I assume the stairs were drawn on level one.  I am assuming they are not showing on level 2.  Typically what I do is to put the EXTERIOR STAIRS  (NOT IN A ROOM) on a layer called STAIRS ON GRADE  (or whatever name you want),  and then if you understand ref sets,  you would ref the level 1 from level 2,  you can then turn on ref sets and turn on the STAIRS ON GRADE layer.  You will now see the stairs that are drawn on level 1 as you are looking at level 2.

If you do not understand ref sets,  I would suggest you learn them.

  3. The objective is to import the Material List into the databases.  This is proving to be a multiple cut and paste process, because the data needed for filtering, and grouping, is not contained entirely in either the Schedules or the Material Lists.

I will report the progress here or on the Chief group on Facebook.

  4. UIpdate:

The Number column in Schedules is equivalent to the ID column in the Material List.  When this number is displayed in a category specific Schedule it follows the ID designation.

When they are displayed in the Custom Schedule they have the designation it makes them all start with a "G"

Click the current page button and all the other pages go away.

True, but only after it goes through every sheet prior to alloying changes to the print options.
I'm hoping to disable this feature until the which sheet to print has been selected.

Uncheck Update Automatically and just click Update when you have your desired page selected.

I'm referring to the print dialog box not the individual layouts.

Does your suggestion still apply?  Thanks.

  7. I hope this is me being the nut-behind-the-wheel, because if not, this is annoying.

When you open the print dialog box, it automatically Previews the entire drawing set, even if all you really want to do is print one page.

    What's u[ with that?

Can you see it in 3d?  That was what I originally tried to do and make the 2d symbol my dashed lines.  Even made the light not show up in schedule and really small but then it would show weird in 3d.  Tried setting it to opening no material but it still made it look bad in 3d.  Probably a way to set it up in the ceiling come to think of it...

Maybe create a custom layer and turn it off in 3D

  9. Hey Eric,

Thanks for trying to help.  It turns our that if you have sent a plan view to the layout page it wont update if you toggle on the reference view in plan.  You have to re-send it to the layout page.

I don't think any of us have any clue what you're talking about.  It helps immensely if you use the correct terms and take time to describe things more precisely.

I tried to do that, but the Chief WEB site was not letting my images upload.  So I was left trying to describe it. Ryan above was on the right track,  I had a reference to an existing as-built. Chief wouldn't let me delete it.

All I needed to do was change it.
