  1. I am trying to design a house that will have 12' tall studs and the floor joists will be installed so the bottom of the floor joist is at the 8' height. The stud wall will extend up 3' above the floor joist to provide a knee wall for the 2nd story loft. How do I create this look in chief architect? Attached is a section of the house showing what I am trying to do.
  2. How do I get my stairs to have a railing at the lower part and then a full wall at the upper part? Like this attached picture.
  3. thanks. can you post the plan here so I can see what you did
  4. Steve, can you get it work with this plan? I tried to gable line tool but I can't get it to work. Thanks for the help. house.zip
  5. I believe what you are looking for is under default settings - floors and rooms - floor levels - 2nd floor - floor structure on the bottom of the dialog box
  6. Chief automatically puts double floor joists under partition walls above even if they are non-load bearing. Is there a way to change this so double joists are not created?
  7. Is it possible to change the deck framing so the support beam and posts are not recessed. Sometimes my client wants the support post and beam to be on the outside edge of the deck. If the deck extends 12' from the house they want the outside edge of the support beam to be at the 12' distance not at 10'-9 1/2" like chief auto does.
  8. Is there a way to adjust the distance the floor joists overlap each other over a wall. I know I can do it manually but is there a setting somewhere that I can adjust? Under the framing defaults there is the option to have the joists lap or butt over support but I don't see anywhere to change the lap distance.
  9. scottharris, what were some of the odd exterior wall settings? I want to make sure I get these fixed.
  10. I get a lot of clients who want a gable roof in the middle portion of the house and a hip roof on the left and right side of the house (see attached picture). Disregard the messed up beams/windows/etc. I just added the picture to show how the roof needs to look. I have always manually modified the middle portion of the house to get the gable roof but is there a way use auto roofs to do it? My plan is attached. house.zip
  11. Thank you both for the help, however, it is still centering the house walls on the frost wall instead of aligning the exterior of the house wall on the exterior of the frost wall.
  12. Attached is my plan. There will be a frost wall poured for the house and the porch. My auto foundation is putting the foundation wall centered under the wall that separates the house from the porch. I would like to outside of the foundation wall to be aligned with the outside of the house wall. Is there a way to do this and keep auto foundation on or do I just need to manually move the wall? I am using Chief Architect Premier X15 house.zip
  13. Thank you all for the help, that is exactly what I was looking for.
  14. I need a foundation with a 5'-1/2" tall frost wall (4' below grade and 12" above grade with a 1.5" sill plate) and the slab 12" below the top of frost wall. In my foundation defaults I have the stem wall minimum height set to 61 1/2". However, it is putting my slab on top of the frost wall. How do I get it to be 12" below the top of frost wall?
  15. Is it possible to draw interior basement walls and keep auto foundation on? When I draw an interior wall it says auto foundation will be turned off but I would like it to stay on.
  16. Thank you, that is exactly what I wanted. Did you just have to drop the porch ceiling height 1" or were there other things you did?
  17. I would like to keep auto roofs on but I can't figure out how to make the roof look right. The screen porch side looks right but the left side of the house is all messed up. I would like the main roof to be a 6:12 pitch, the porch roofs to be 3:12 and the center gable roof to be 8:12. Thank you for the help. house.zip
  18. Attached is my plan. I would like to have the first two treads wider but not with a circular end. I also do not want the railing on the bottom stairs. The railing should start at the landing where the stairs continue up to the 2nd floor. I also attached a picture with some green lines showing where I want the railing. Thank you for the help. house.zip
  19. I am working on a house with a walkout basement. I have used terrain elevation lines to get the 3d view to look like I want but the section view terrain does not seem to match the 3d view. What am I doing wrong? house plan.zip
  20. I know I can just move the foundation wall manually but I would like to get auto foundation on so if I end up changing something on the 1st floor my foundation will auto update.
  21. On my first floor plan the wall is continuous so the exterior side of the wall is the same.
  22. Attached is my plan. I am trying to get a set of stairs to the basement in the garage. When I do it shifts the foundation wall slightly so it is not in line with the rest of the wall. This is also happening on the back side of the house along the kitchen wall where there is a porch. Any idea what is happening and how I fix it? I would like to keep auto foundation on if possible. house.zip
