  1. Hi, does anyone know how to change the default label text for items e.g. headers in X15.

I want the label for headers to be lintel's by default, so on a framing plan it will automatically say 45x140 x 900 mm Lintel x 2.. instead of headers.

I don't want to go through every header label and change the text manually.

  2. Ok I figured it out, in the wall settings when I adjusted the interior wall drywall thickness, I removed the spacing between the frame and the drywall so chief was thinking that the wall was all one unit instead of frame with drywall on both sides..!

Appreciate your time and help trying to fix it, ty!

  3. Hi All

Can someone explain how I get chief to locate internal wall framing for interior walls using auto exterior dimensions?

I am going round in circles through the default settings trying to figure it out, please see the attached picture.

You can see when I use auto exterior dimensions it locates the framing on the exterior walls and shows them as 90mm but when it comes to the interior walls its locating the wall lining and listing them as 110mm, I want it to show framing size so all walls should be 90mm.

    Any help, greatly appreciated.

    I'm using X14.

  4. Thank-you for doing that but it still doesn't change the font size. However I just figured out how to change it, if I go into my site plan and select the terrain perimeter. Which is using the plot plan text style, then go into define, click edit and change the character height int the plot plan text style it changes the size in the Auto Story Pole...even though my Auto Story Pole is saying it using the 1:50 Text Style.....how in the heck does that work.

Thanks for the reply that changes the dimension number size but not the text size.

How to I get the font back to a normal size, I had it properly and somehow somewhere I have done something to a setting that has changed it.

Looks to me that the base is level ?  You should be able to make the entire straight section into a symbol and rotate it.  The issue  will be at the corner you will likely get a gap that you will need to find a creative solution for or you  could do the entire wall and end up with a clean connection and some distortion at the end. You might be able to do the math and predict what will happen or just give it a try and see.

Yes the base is level I still was hoping to put footings into it and then have the retaining wall as a separate layout for design page. but may have to do it separate.

I will try making the straight section into a symbol and rotating it and see what happens, nothing bad I'm sure.

Since you are using X11 how about building the retaining wall and then converting to symbol to rotate.  Just leave the original in place on a layer that you can turn on and off in case you need to edit.

I would like the posts as individual items that I can resize as required to suit the slope of the terrain.

  8. Ok I am almost there. I now have a square post on the right angle (-6 deg) is there a way to now convert that square post into a round post?

Selecting the top of the post in the working plan doesn't allow break line tools to be used once its a polyline solid.

The other thing is I would like to create the post's as individual items in the library as the retaining wall changes heights over its length so being able to individually size the posts to suit the terrain is helpful.

Thanks for the great replies so far :)

Use a polyline solid to model your post, at least if you want it's behavior to remain stable and predictable. It's simple and it keeps you in control! Draw the p-solid in elevation / section view.

Is there a way to angle the polyline solid to -6 deg?

  10. Hi All

Having to design a retaining wall for my build, engineer requires -6 deg angle to be applied to the posts for the retaining wall.

Does anyone have a creative way to do this, need a post with a footing on a -6 deg angle.

If the powers that be are reading this why oh why can you not put an angle on framing posts I can think of lots of reasons to want to do this without trying to muck about with the Soffit tool to bodge it.

    TIA for any help

I believe that you can do what you want with the original objects.

ie, without the need to draw polylines.

And I think others have tried to explain this previously.

You can assign a different color to the Roof Planes layer for each Layerset.

So, set up your layersets so that you can control the fill color depending on the layerset.

Open the roof planes dbx, Fill Style>Appearance, select a color and make sure Use Layer Color is checked.

eg, This means that on the Roof Planes layer set, the roofs can have a green fill.

You could then change to the Impermeable layer set where the roofs could have a blue fill.

Post a simple plan with a quick description of what you want and someone here will try and set it up to get what you want because sometimes things get lost in translation, settings are different....etc..

Hi Glen Thanks for the reply I have tried the change color option and it doesn't achieve what I want, although it means I can change the color for each different layer set the Hatch style and fill/ line transparency are still set by that original setting and the only later change is the color.

The polyline idea has worked well so will stick with that, Thanks again.

  12. That's correct so when I look at my impermeable surfaces layer set the roofs are hatched and filled but when I move to a different layer set i.e. roof plan layer set they will be un hatched and not filled..

I can change the color and line styles through the ALDO for each layer set but not whether the item is hatched and filled.

  13. Ok I think I have got it, changing them that way changes them everywhere, but when you change them through the ALDO (just figured that out too) ;) look at me learning new things!!, it only changes them through that layer set.., so I guess the question is, is there a way to change the fill style and hatching style through the ALDO
