  1. Thanks Graham, hopefully that will help people see what I am talking about. The reason that those wall heights are taller than the ceiling heights is because those walls are set to balloon above the floor to the floor above.
  2. Graham, not that I know of. I am enclosing a new plan. It has only the lights in the problems areas. If the light looks correct in the elevation view, it is only because I forced it by making the ceiling offset 5.5". House - Stripped Small.plan
  3. I stripped out everything but the envelope and the ceiling lights/fixtures. In the rooms with the sloped ceiling (where the roof is the ceiling) everything is fine. In the rooms with the flat ceiling the lights are 5.5" above the ceiling. The fixtures that show correct in my plan only look that way because I gave them a 5.5" offset. House - Stripped Small.plan
  4. Normally I would but this file is HUGE and I was hoping to not have to go through the exercise of stripping a lot of stuff out to make it small enough. I was hoping that someone had just experienced this and immediately knew the answer. If not, I will definitely post the file. Thanks!
  5. I am going to send my file to tech support but I first wanted to see if anyone has had this issue. I have a plan with multiple manual shed roofs. Some of the rooms have the ceiling being the bottom of the sloped roof and some have an automatic flat ceiling. I have lights and other ceiling fixtures throughout the plan and everything was fine. I just noticed recently that all objects that are attached to the flat ceilings are appearing exactly 5.5" (the exact height of my ceiling rafters) higher than they should which is obviously at the bottom side of the sheetrock in both camera and elevation views. This is ONLY happening in the rooms with the automatic flat ceiling, the objects in the rooms where the ceiling is the bottom of the sloped shed roof are fine. I can manually fix the problem by going into each affected object and changing the ceiling offset from 0" to 5.5". This is obviously a short term fix but I need to figure out what is going on. This is happening in multiple rooms with multiple fixtures. When I have the exact same fixture in the two types of rooms (sloped or flat ceiling) only the fixtures in the flat ceiling rooms are affected.
  6. I actually ended up doing it in my own personal house, but it is a VERY simple cove crown and it is 20' up so any faces that don't quite match (by mm's) are too far away to see.
  7. :-) I am not doing actual crown molding. The customer currently has a T&G natural wood ceiling with a small coved strip around the edge to hide where the boards meet the sheetrock at the walls. The cove is falling down and we are going to be painting the wood so I am going to just put a 5/8" x 1-1/2" strip where the wall meets the ceiling to replace the cove.
  8. Thanks Eric, I was hoping there was an easier way. I swear back in X5 (my previous version), you could just define how far down from the ceiling in the dbx rather than just how far up from the floor. Maybe I am imagining things. ;-)
  9. I know I am just being an idiot but I have searched through this forum and I cannot find an answer. I have a room where the ceiling is sloped (single slope) and the slope is defined by the roof above it. I am trying to put crown molding around the room but when I go to the room dbx and choose molding, I pick a profile and define it as crown but it wants me to define its distance from the floor. Obviously that is different for each location along the walls. Is there a way to tell it that I want it just below the ceiling - whatever height that is?
  10. Eric, Is your left hand door an actual bifold in the door .dbx?
  11. Eric, Yes. I was able to create my own door that mimics the look when closed (even with hinges in the middle since it will fold that way), but in 2D or 3D it looks fine when closed but I can only show it open like a regular door, not folded, when open.
  12. I am trying to do some wood panel pantry bifold doors. Rather than the standard bifold that Chief Architect gives you when you choose the bifold option (which is assuming that it is on a track and the hinge point is centered on the jamb), I want to use a standard outward swing hinge so that the hinge point is at the front of the jamb. Is there a way to do that in the .dbx or do I have to create a doorway and then custom closed and open double wood panel symbols on different layers and then toggle between them. It would be nice to use the standard door .dbx if possible!
  13. Mark, are the inside sides of the cabinet on the left part of the back wall panel?
  14. Nice Mark. How did you get the side walls to be maple on the one on the left (I can tell how you got the back wall/inset to be maple)? I can't figure it out.
  15. By the way, the reason I like the molding way of doing it better is that it doesn't give you a frame in the back of the recess (against the wall) which is the way I have my cabinets built. The issue with doing that way is that the automatic labeling of the cabinet dimensions will be incorrect.
  16. Eric, I was typing my post as you were posting yours. :-) You are completely right. Thanks for doing the separate investigation. I will call support on Monday to see if they can change this in future. Thanks!
  17. It gets more interesting. The default separation for the framed in Box Construction is 1.5". The trick only works if you delete the bottom separation in Front/Sides/Back before changing to Frame in Box Construction. The interesting part is if I change the separation from 1.5" to 2.5" (I want a deeper recess) - either by changing the default in the Box Construction option under Framed or the actual separation in the Front/Sides/Back area - the recess disappears!!!
  18. Interesting!!! I tried choosing frameless, pressing okay and then going back in choosing framed again, but nothing changed. I then had an idea. I went to the Front/Sides/Back option in the dbx and deleted the bottom separation. I then re-added it and there it was - the recessed bottom! It must be because these cabinets started out as frameless and when I changed it to framed, the program did not change the bottom separation. Thanks Jim for the lead!
  19. I went ahead and created a molding using the CA-001 symbol (1 3/4" tall and 3/4" wide) and put it with a negative 1 3/4" vertical offset and a negative 3/4" horizontal offset from bottom. I then made my bottom separation for my cabinet only 3/4" and that seems to give me what I am looking for - a 2.5" bottom rail with 1 3/4" of it inset on the bottom. I have to remember to raise my cabinet by the 1 3/4" as well since the program doesn't see the molding as part of the actual cabinet height. Mark, I don't think that you are getting it the same way since you don't show that "line" on the bottom where my molding and cabinet are connected (see my image).
  20. Yes Mark, I know they weren't absolutely identical. ;-) I tried overlay like yours but it made no difference. My plan is way too big to post. I tried calling support last week and he said that I would have to create a molding for the bottom to create the look of the recessed bottom. This seemed wrong since I was able to do it before. Your's are recessed so there is obviously some way that you are doing that. I will try calling them again next week. I am using the latest release. Can you look at your molding settings? Do you have a molding at the bottom?
  21. MarcMc, My options are identical to yours in the Box Construction in the default Upper Cabinet dialog box but my cabinet bottom is flat (unlike yours). Where are you getting the option to define the depth of a bottom inset for the cabinet?
  22. In X5, I was able to have a 2" recessed bottom in all my upper cabinets so that I could install undercounter lights without them showing. I was able to do this using the normal cabinet dialog box without any special tweaks. Now with X10, I don't seem to be able to do this. Worse yet, when I convert my old X5 files to X10 it changes my existing cabinets so that there is no longer a recess and the undercounter light is now embedded in the cabinet. I have included an old raytrace to show you that I am not just imagining this! ;-) Is there any way to get this function back easily without have to build soffits/molding/etc. around the bottom of my cabinets? I would think that newer versions would have MORE functions/options, not less...
  23. Greg_NY61's answer explained the issue with the Sketchup oven model. Fortunately, Justmejerry pointed out that there is the exact GE model I needed in a GE CA library (which for some reason I had never downloaded). Chopsaw, nice model! How did you edit the CA decora switch to be able to have two different materials? Just curious? Kbird1, I LOVE your creativity! Nice solution. I don't believe my question regarding why the Decora Sketchup file (which I gave different materials for the different parts) imports into CA as just a completely red object unless I export as a Collada file from Sketchup and then import into CA has been answered. The reason I continue asking is that I have had it happen with other Sketchup files as well.
