  1. I downloaded the Trial version so I could check it out and some of the symbols , and it maybe a Trial Version issue but I have a missing texture? in this library and one of the others so far, would it be cause I haven't downloaded ALL the Addon Content yet?

No, it's probably my error. The way materials work -- the way they attach themselves to plan files and library objects -- has always confused and eluded me.

Some content I get from ChiefTalk are always perfect, and sometimes the materials are all way off.

Sometimes the items in my own library change materials from plan to plan, so I am not surprised anyone would have trouble with textures in the libraries I put out. I must be doing something wrong.

Sorry you are having issues; if you like the symbols and want to keep them, just change the missing textures to something you have in your materials library.

  2. DMDesigns, Hey wait, that's me..!

    Dave!

I use your double oven with warming drawer all the time! It was from your freebies pack I got a while back. As far as I know I did not include your symbols, but it does look like somehow your texture made its way in there (or didn't, as Kbird's error message would indicate).

Unless of course you made the ones I got from the Sketchup 3D Warehouse, which is entirely plausible.

  3. I searched high and low for a bathroom exhaust fan with heat for ages. I even found a 3D model just like this one for sale, but was $50!!!! Finally, today I decided to just make my own.

It is based (roughly) on this product by Nutone: http://www.nutone.com/products/series/ultra-green-multi-speed-humiditymotion-sensing-fanslights-5abd60b1-dd95-4f61-bcca-66d72a159051

It is a ceiling-mounted electrical symbol that is recognized by the Electrical Connection tool, so it'll work when connecting switches.

I included two versions (HVL and VL) each with two different 2D symbols. Use whichever you feel comfortable with.

Because I made it myself, it is relatively low-poly.

    Enjoy!

  4. Hello!

I have begun converting Stanisci hood surrounds from Sketchup to CA. Here we have the E-series, ERA-Series, and M-Series, in their most popular sizes.

Now, before you say anything, I have been cleaning them up to reduce face count. These two screenshots show the difference in edge and face count before and after cleaning: post-210-0-54033000-1403016508_thumb.jpgpost-210-0-10803300-1403016547_thumb.jpg

I have also set attributes like origins and stretch planes for each.

For the curved hoods (E and ERA-Series), I created a curved side panel to fit snugly beside it (see screenshot examples). Maybe you can use those as well.

    Enjoy!

NOTE: For the M-Series, each standard width includes a 36" and 42" height variation. HOWEVER, the 42" height variation is simply the 36" model stretched. (The results are exactly the same as importing the 42" models.) You may see a bounding box display issue in elevation, but just resetting the height to 42" should fix it.

  5. This is a slanted mantle hood for above your favorite range or cooktop!

I have adjusted the bounding box to ignore the moldings so you can slide your wall cabinets right up to it with no problems.

I have broken it up into two pieces in cases where you want to use the valance part with your own cabinets on top.

It does not have molding attached to it, so I have also included a molding polyline that fits it perfectly. The molding will probably be messed up upon import, but you can just add your own crown to the polyline.

Stretch planes are set for slight adjustments in height and width. Probably wouldn't want to deviate too far from its original size.

    Hope you enjoy!

  6. Thanks Brink , just wondering if your symbols only work for X6 users or for older versions too eg X5 or X4 ?

I have not found a way to make any library items backwards compatible. Never was sure why they couldn't be, but they apparently aren't. Sorry about that.

  7. Once again, I ask, are your wonderful contributions available only to X6 users, or is there a way for them to be backward compatible to X5 and previous versions??

I have not found a way to convert them to older formats. I was never really sure why the version restriction in the first place... Sorry about that.

  8. Thanks for this.  I have used a couple of these myself from the Warehouse.  Just eliminating the grills at the upper portion of some of them I have found reduces the face count considerably.

You're quite right! But sometimes I do like a bit of detail to help with realism in raytraces.

  9. Any chance you can update your Ikea Lib. download ?  maybe just me but each time I goto MediaFire the webpage locks up , perhaps you can split it so you can post here ? ( 10mb limit)

    Thanks  Brink.

    M.

Actually, it may be time for me to revisit this. Clean it up a bit, maybe add new pieces. I've learned a lot since this was originally posted!

Thanks for the suggestion, and keep an eye out for an update in the coming weeks/month.

In the meantime, maybe try the link on a different computer or browser. MediaFire has never locked up for me. Hope that helps!

  10. This is a collection of kitchen exhaust hood appliances in several popular brands, including island canopies, wall canopies, and under-cabinet hoods. In all, there are about 25-30 hoods in various standard sizes.

I have taken the time to adjust smoothing angle, bounding boxes and stretch planes where appropriate. NOTE: The island and wall canopies mount on the ceiling; simply adjust the appliances height in the dialog box, or resize by dragging downward in 3D view.

Face count high on some as usual (they come from 3D Warehouse), but all things considered I found them to be tolerable. Use at your own discretion.

Play around with the stainless material to get the results you want... I haven't found a good stainless material yet.

    Hope you enjoy!

  11. Here is a library of popular microwaves and warming drawers. Some insert into full-height cabinets and some are under-cabinet mounted. Some are 24" and some are 30".

I have even included a set of pre-built full-height cabinets with these inserted that should take on the characteristics of the cabinets in your plan.

Some of these have higher face counts than I think necessary, but since you'll typically be using only one or two per plan, I think it'll be fine. Use at your own discretion.

    Enjoy!

  12. This is a 3D molding that will place repeated beadboard panels along any molding polyline.

It is low-poly (92 faces) so you can use plenty of it in your plan as needed (this one's for you, ArchiJeff).

It comes in at an automatic height of 3'-6", but it can be shrunk or stretched to any height.

The 3D Symbol options are set so that the tongue and groove overlaps as it repeats.

    Enjoy!

  13. This picture shows what happens when an imported handle is imported without regard to the origins.

If I had not regarded the origins, that handle would have been upside down and three feet off the door. I adjusted the origins using visual approximation.

The handle on the outside one is not in-line with  the (Chief default) door knob.

Okay, that is a fair statement. But even you have got to admit it's pretty close. Visual approximation and all... Just adjust the Up from Bottom setting. Or use that handle's interior counterpart for the other side; they line up perfectly. Or don't use them at all.

You will notice a lot of Chief objects are a bit lumpy, primative even...

This is precicsely why I searched for door handles on Sketchup in the first place. It's why I search for anything on Sketchup.

  14. Brinkbart, these doors appear to have the backs missing, the inside door handles are floating in the air.

Hmm... sometimes when I import a .CALIBZ from another user, the materials are off. I think the materials are tied to the template the symbol was created with, and we all use different plan templates. Perhaps the doors are importing with a "glass" texture for you? The geometry is fine for me, and I don't see why it would be any different for anyone else. So that's why I'm thinking it's a materials issue.

As for the handles floating in the air, it's because of the frame around the lights. It sticks out a little farther than the door surface (about 11/16" I think). It was a trade-off I was willing to live with because it isn't noticeable in elevation views.

Hope this helps! If they do not meet your needs, I am sorry. :0(

  15. you will usually need to offset the axis of a handle from the default position of the x and y axis.

I thought I positioned them all properly. I'm sorry, which ones were not positioned properly so I can fix them?

Some of the handles  seem to be right poly horrors, I measured one at more than 16 000 faces

Doesn't seem to slow anything down for me. Does this typically cause problems for people?

Rule of thumb: most of the stuff on Sketchup is unusable dross.

Sorry, I have found these to be quite usable. Like most of the stuff I decide to get from the Sketchup 3D Warehouse. If it doesn't, I don't keep them in my library.

Sounds like someone has a bad case of looking gift horses in their mouths...

  16. I was unable to find an arched double-door symbol, even in Sketchup. Sure, they had the round top doors common in Spanish style, but not a gentle, eyebrow arched door symbol.

    So I made my own.

There are two sizes - 24" and 30" for creating 48" and 60" double entry doors respectively.

Use in a "broken arch" door frame, with a radius of 6 for the 24" doors and and 8 for the 30" doors.

The 24" door can be stretched to 30" and the 30" door can be squished to 24" (remember to adjust the arch radiuses). Both doors can be stretched vertically as well.

See attached thumbnails for preview! Hope you can use!

EDIT: The doorknobs seen in the thumbnail previews can be found at this link.

  17. This is a selection of new door knobs for interior and exterior doors. I did not create these, just imported from Sketchup and adjusted for Chief.

They all work with a standard Up from Bottom setting of 36".

The In from Side setting may have to be adjusted for your door type.

  18. Not sure why "this kind of file" (.calibz) isn't permitted to be uploaded to the SYMBOLS & CONTENT section of the forum... photos attach just fine (see attached).

Tried with two different browsers, so it doesn't seem like it's on my end. Please help?

    Thanks!

EDIT: Also, the file is only 5MB, plenty small enough to attachd.
