Draw a wall, use the Adjust Material Definition tool and Texture\Texture Source\ what does it show?

Suggest you move your heavier line weight off of the main layer and onto the exterior layers..personal preference

"C:\ProgramData\Chief Architect Premier X12\Referenced Files" is the source it shows for the textures.

Thanks. I will try moving the line weight to an exterior layer.

  2. All of the materials for my wall types are either disappearing or changing at random.

I have contacted customer support about this and they don't know what is causing this.

I have reinstalled chief architect. I am running the most recent version.

I can start with a CA template file and the wall types from the core catalog all maintain their materials.

The issue starts when I modify one of these wall types and save it to my user library.

If I create a wall from my user library and open up the wall type definitions it shows similar to the picture I have attached.

This has become very time consuming for me as all of the materials have to be updated manually after a wall is created every time.

On a much smaller note, does anyone know how to have a wall type with different line weights that do no show these artifacts at intersections? I would like to have a heavier line weight for my exterior walls but I get the heavier line weight artifacts showing on the interior side of the wall.

  3. Nothing like sending out a 5 figure plan to the clients and their business partners

and there is crap on the plan like ELEVATO AND KITCHENETT

                                                         R                        E

There are way to many moving parts in a project to have to worry about double checking text.

  4. Is there a way to create custom stair railing that does not interact with walls?

I hate that the "railing tool" is just a wall toggle. If I have a railing follow stairs, then the railing is broken apart if

there is a wall under the stairs.

Also, if you have a break-line in your stairs the railing will not stop at the break-line. I thing this looks terrible

with the stairs above dashed but the railing is solid lines. I guess I could hide the railing layer and create a new

layer for the railing lines to show how I want.

Maybe X11 can have rails as a separate tool that has nothing to do with the wall tool.

And maybe railings could be associated or linked to a stair run so they can move with the stairs

    and show correctly with break-lines.

If anyone has any work-arounds I would love to hear them.

  5. Just an FYI, I just updated to the latest GeForce 397.93 and immediately experienced the old problem of Chief hanging upon closing out of any plan views and having to be force closed without saving. I reverted back to 391.35 and Chief is working fine. If you just updated your Nvidia graphics driver you might want to give Chief a test run to make sure the program doesn't hang for you.

Great render!  If you don't mind me asking, what are your light settings for the exterior lights that highlight the exterior stone walls?  If you can post a screenshot or just the settings would be grateful to give them a try in a render I'm working with now.

I rendered this in Lumion. If you want my Lumion settings I can check what my settings were.

    Hello everyone,

I just skimmed through this post coming over from another. I'm having the issue described above (running Nvidia GTX 1060) and am unable to Roll back my driver. Not sure if there is a way around this or if anyone has figured out a permanent fix. I'm also having this same issue anytime I generate an elevation and then attempt to click out of it.

Nvidia just released a new driver on January 29 which is supposed to fix the issue. Try downloading driver version 390.77 as see if this solves the problem for you.

I have used Sketchup and Revit and am trying to find something that makes up for what they both lack

I love how simple and intuitive Sketchup is, i can model anything. I hate how non intelligent it is, cutting a hole in a wall for a window or door is a pain in the #@$$.
What i disliked about Revit was how hard it was to do anything really detail oriented, multi piece roof gable trim with overhangs that are different thickness then the rafters required lots of work-arounds and was not at all intuitive to model. I am hoping Chief may be that tool that marries the benefits of both these programs.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated. The work we do is high end, and very detail oriented, I want my plans to reflect all the little details the building will be built with, not generic representations that will be figured out in the field.

Thanks so much for any input

I used Revit about 5 years ago at a design firm. Looking back there is not much a liked about it. I remember the late nights trying to create parametric components for arched windows or a component embedded in the window that would control the vertical and horizontal window lite divisions. Or that time we needed an arched opening in a curved wall. Not as easy as you would think. To get items like ceiling fans and lights to show we had to edit each component and create a hidden vertical line that would cross the cut plane so that they would be visible in electrical plans.

I remember when I first saw Chief's window tool with full control over options like arches and divided lites. I think I cried.

  9. I know many have had the problem of extra lines showing in elevation views. I think I get them showing up in every single project.

While working on a project in X10 beta I could orbit around the house and noticed that these extra lines were showing at every single corner. I turned off textures for clarity. (See image sample 1)

I tried changing different wall and roof settings. I noticed that if I use the wall material that is specified in the "Wall Type Definitions" the extra lines would disappear. (See image sample 2)

Now if I change the wall material with the material painter, which I had always done before, the extra lines return.

But, if I instead change the material in the "Wall Type Definitions" the extra lines do not show and everything seems to display correctly. (See image sample 3)

I will keep working and see if these extra lines don't reappear, but at present this seems to have fixed the problem for me.

Please let me know if this solves the problem for you or if you have found a better solution.

You still haven't done you Signature ,( see mine for how)  so no idea on your system specs? , but this does not happen on my systems ( both desktops )

I have tried many and always gone back to 382.05 but I am still testing these (390.65) here though.....

    Sorry, I don't a signature.

  11. I saw this topic with an Nvidia update. I just downloaded 390, did a clean install, and restarted.

Opened all of my 3D programs to make sure they work smoothly. They all work as they should but one. Chief still hangs when trying to close a 3D view.

Chief, we are looking at you and waiting for a response. Preferably a response with a fix or a patch.

Not uncommon.  What would be interesting is what each party said about the other not doing things right.

I'm using the latest Nvidia drivers and doing just fine with CA and all other fronts.  Go figure.

Has someone from CA contacted Nvidia and asked for a detailed list of changes that were made from May to June?

When I upgrade to x10 am I going to have to use a 12 month old graphics driver?

Anyone know of any patches or updates in the pipeline?

  13. My GTX 1050 Ti running the latest driver causes Chief to hang upon trying to close a 3D view. If I install the driver from May '17 Chief works fine, but then I start experiencing issues with other programs because I am not using the most recent graphics driver.

I have talked with Nvidia tech support and Chief Architect support. Nvidia points their fingers at Chief Architect developers and Chief Architect points their fingers at Nvidia.
