  1. Hey gang. I love the idea that I can put 3D elevations or perspectives in my schedule (same goes for windows/doors), but when I do, the schedule is like three feet tall and skinny. I called tech support thinking there must be a way to do double or triple columns so it stretches right to left as well, but they had no answers. Am I explaining this well enough? Any wisdom? My only solution was to not use it, and what's the point of that?
  2. Thanks, David. I guess the downside to your method would be the lack of deck "framing". I don't suppose that's the end of the world, as long as I achieve the aesthetic. I guess using that method, I'd forego the double beam underneath and instead hang my 2x12 joists on a double rim and thru-bolt my posts into that. Thanks for your input David! I'm curious if anyone comes up with a plan B or C. I always get great ideas on this forum.
  3. I have a client who wants me to build a deck and put a screen porch under it. I'd likely keep the deck framing the way it is, but I'd fill it in with screens and whatnot, while putting a sloped "soffit" in the ceiling. I also want the footprint below to be a stone patio (polylines?). I know I can do this with a zillion polylines, but my question is this: is there an easier way? The attached pic shows two deck structures. The one farthest is already there. I want to build a room under the closest one (I think I'll set my walls to stack with the beam and posts, recessing it a little). What say all you pointy-headed geniuses out there? Many thanks in advance!
  4. Awesome stuff guys! Thanks for all the input. I like the thick floor idea.
  5. Hey everyone. Does anyone have any words of wisdom for how to bend CA to our will regarding adding a floor system above an existing garage slab? Whether that be hanging a joist system on the wall and supporting with LVLs below, or even ripping sleepers and putting CDX over it? It's technically two floor systems. Am I explaining this right? I know I can do this with poly-lines, and maybe that's the answer. I figured one of you pointy-heads out there has already figured it out. Thanks a million!
  6. All of you guys... I never would have figured it out. Thanks so much! Related to lights, anyone got a good lead on some under-cabinet LEDs? I'm so tired of the big clunky flourescents that CA offers.
  7. Thanks Michael. I appreciate your candor, and kind-of pride myself in some really well-done raytraces. This is the first time I've been stymied by this type of issue and I don't have more than the usual amount of lighting, but you're right-- I'll have to dig into the advanced settings for ray tracing. I've been doing this for 15 years. I guess it's about time
  8. A million thanks to both of you!
  9. Thanks @Renerabbitt. That worked, although I don't have the faintest clue why!
  10. Thanks Graham! Here's the plan (dropbox link)... https://www.dropbox.com/s/6sladq7gjl1q7mp/Jarrell for CA.zip?dl=0 Particularly camera 11 & 12, but it's also done it to me with the ext. views unless I turned off the porch lights (which I did). Super-weird.
  11. Hope you guys can help. I can't seem to figure out what wacky circumstance is causing this particular file to process raytraces with a zillion white pixels in it. I'm sure it has something to do with the lights, but none of them are more than around 60 watts. Even if I run this to 150 passes, there are still little white pixel fairies (fewer, but still). Anyone? Anyone?
  12. Michael & Eric, thanks so much for your help! This is great!
  13. Wow, Michael, that's exactly what I needed! Tech support had no idea. I'll have to play around with the radius, but that's the ticket!!! Thanks!
  14. Hey gang, I'm having a bugger of a time getting four windows at the top of a stack to equal to one elliptical arc. I can do it with two, but when I try to do it with four, the curvature of the end windows is off, and will not work, no matter what I try. Attached are a drawing of what I'm trying to do, a screen cap of two windows doing it (customer wants four), and what it looks like when I try to do four. Please help!
  15. Hey Chief community! I don't know if this is an unorthodox thing to ask on here, but I'm a long time Chief user and started a design/build firm with a partner that serves the Balto/DC metro area. I've been trying to envision my company with designers and estimators/sales people when it dawned on me that I'd like to build a team of Chief users and show them how to sell the actual build! Are there any Chief rock stars in the area that would be interested in having a conversation about that? If so, I'm at jim@elevatedesign-build.com Thanks! 16. This is just a part of a large renovation and multiple additions to a 2 story colonial.
