Do you send your elevations to layout as a vector view or line drawing? Live or plot lines? It seems like when I have darker stained/painted cabinets, details are harder to see if the views are sent as vector. I figured maybe I should just use line drawings or plot lines for everything and then add a pic of a 3d view to show some of the aesthetic details for the clients. One way seems better for clients and one for my cabinet makers. Thanks for your thoughts.

Oh holy goodness. If you haven't been told you are amazing lately, I just did! Thank you! I will watch this and try it out, will definitely use your freebie and your services in the future!

That looks good! I think I'll have to create a custom door to get the size/shape perimeter mold I need and then I'll try to add this... looks better than anything else I've done. Thank you all for your responses!

Here's another angle.

Oh! Good idea! I'll see how that goes!

It's white oak

I like the easy texture plan, I just haven't found anything suitable. But, I'll look again. It took me a while to make the custom door with polylines and moldings and given that there are multiple sizes of drawers/doors in the room, that might not be worth my time.

Hello, this "reeded" look is quickly becoming a popular door/drawer style and I am wanting to be able to create a custom symbol to use in my drawings. It will actually have about a 1/2" square bead around the perimeter of the door/drawer. I tried to create it with molding lines and it looked pretty good, until you tried to resize it and then it appeared impossible to add stretch zones to make it work. Anyone have any suggestions? Creative ways to get close to this look without making a door symbol? I can't come up with anything. Thanks.

Hello, It would take me a while to draw this and I don't have a while, so would anyone be willing to draw me a custom cabinet door? Please tell me what you would charge. Thank you! I can give you specific measurements, etc, once we confirm.

Thank you! I turned it on to see what it did... do you keep these on? Just curious. Seems like it might be helpful.

I fixed it!! I tried both of your suggestions with no luck, though I wasn't sure where to "turn on" the start and end indicators. The walls were definitely connected. I selected the horizontal wall in the middle, edited the "wall layer intersections" ... and TA-DAH! I'm so happy. Thank you so much! You both are so helpful.

I will try to explain this the best I can... I draw a room with some cubbies for bookshelves (see floor plan pic), I place some cabinets in the cubbies. I go to the elevation and I paint the wall the color of the cabinets. My problem is with the L side of the middle wall where it has a line going up the side of it. (see elevation pic). That layer of the wall is still the color of the side wall it connects to... but even if I paint that layer the cabinet color, I still see the line in the wall. Make sense? It doesn't do it on the right side for some reason. This is just a sample plan. The one I'm working on needs to look seamless across the entire wall... I can't have lines in weird places. I've tried multiple things. Thanks for your help.

I just did another vanity that has a door on one side and drawers on the other, not equally divided and it still picks up/dimensions to the middle of the cabinet. it's not picking up the sink... what is it?? I'm sure it's obvious... please excuse my ignorance.

Take for example the uploaded pics... sometimes when I set dimensions, whether automatic or manual, it will pick up the separate cabinet sections (doors vs drawers or whatever) and sometimes it does not. If it does, it normally only pics up the middle of the entire cabinet if there is a separation there. I can place points and dimension to the points, or I can simply put 3 different cabinets side by side.... but it would be easiest if I could figure out how to divide up the cabinet so it will pick up on the separate parts and allow me to dimension to them. Hope that makes sense. Anybody know how it works? Thank you ahead of time for your assistance!

Problem #1 fixed... Thank you!! I knew it was something simple. In the attached pic, I set the front overhang for the counter top to be 2 inches which would fix the problem for showing the actual depth of the cabinet. Obviously, doors/drawers has to be on for this to look right. Do you guys show doors/drawers in this view with full overlay? It seems so "messy" to me, and I don't guess there's a way to show them only on certain rooms. Is it necessary? I would love to know how others handle this issue.

My question is regarding depth dimensions in floor plan view when using inset vs full overlay cabinets. When cabinets are inset, it isn't an issue of course because the overall cabinet depth is the same... it shows the counter top and all is fine, however, with full overlay the cabinets actually extend out past the cabinet frame outline another 3/4" or 1" (we are doing jobs with 1" thick doors/drawers right now) PLUS another inch for the counter top. So even when you have "cabinet doors/drawers" showing in the floor plan view, it isn't accurately portrayed or dimensioned. Today, we went out to a job and the electrician was determining where to put light switches based on the drawings which showed a 25" deep (full height) cabinet when in reality it was 25" plus a 1" thick door. We do ALL custom cabinets made by the Amish... I also wonder how best to ensure they don't get confused by my drawings when some cabinets in the house are full overlay and some are inset... I indicate in the layout the style of cabinets for each room/elevation. ...just trying to avoid mistakes. Also, I am now all of a sudden having trouble showing the outlines of the "cabinet: doors and drawers" in floor plan view when on previous plans I didn't. Is it an X11 thing? I recently upgraded from 9 to 11 and now all new plans don't show the door/drawer outlines when it is clearly checked ON in floor plan view. I'm sure it's obvious that I'm fairly inexperienced, please overlook my ignorance! I appreciate your time and help! Inset-Full overlay.plan I've tried to attach a basic plan where you can see that the layer for doors/drawers is on but not showing and where if you want you can show me how you would dimension it, but it's saying the upload failed... not sure if it will go through. Change number of hinges on an upper cabinet
sweetmelissa replied to sweetmelissa's topic in General Q & A
Yours worked great, but I needed a framed door style. It took me about 20 tries, but I finally got it. And, I upgraded. Wasn't as hard as I thought it would be! You are so helpful. Thank you! -
Change number of hinges on an upper cabinet

Thank you Mark, I will work on that when I have a bit more time than I have now. Unfortunately, I haven't upgraded to X11 yet (trying to finish up a few jobs before I confuse the situation) so I can't open the plan you attached. I'll try to go off your instructions though and see what I can do. Maybe I will just make a note that there will only be 2 instead of 3 hinges on the layout if it proves to be too time consuming or difficult. -
Would anyone be willing to send me some completed layout files/pdf's for me to use as a reference for mine? I am new to the industry, new to CA and just want to make sure I'm doing it the best way. We do custom cabinets and sometimes my drawings just seem to look a little messy with all the notes I have to add to them. You can email them to me at sweetsimplelife@outlook.com. Thank you!

Change number of hinges on an upper cabinet
sweetmelissa replied to sweetmelissa's topic in General Q & A
I just assumed 3 was default because that's how many are there and I see no way to change it through the cabinet specifications. -
I need 2 hinges on my upper cabinet instead of the default 3. I need the hinges to be the "decorative hinge" from the core catalog. I tried to place them manually, but can't seem to make that work. Is there a way to make this happen? Thank you.

I didn't think you were being snarky... I was agreeing with you! -

Did you do that video?? Thank you! Sooo... what I'm not doing is creating a separate wall elevation for the no doors view! LOL! OH MY GOSH. I honestly don't remember doing that before!!
