  1. Michael, Not only will MicroStation save as a dwg but it will allow you to work in the dwg mode. You can open, modify and close a dwg file and it is not ever changed from the original file format. You can even change the work process to allow AutoCAD users the option to work in a mimic mode where it looks like you are in AutoCAD.
  2. I use a simple approach. My project folder is on my desktop computer and is named exactly the same as the one on my laptop computer. I've got a Dropbox account where I "trade" all of the project folders. Finally, my backup software is Acronis. It has a "Synchronization" feature that I've set up to sync the local (Be it on the desktop or the laptop) Project folders with the Dropbox. Now when I save a file, it automatically syncs with Dropbox which in turn syncs it with the other computer at nearly the same time. I've been doing this for about 7 months now and have had ZERO issues. Thanks.
