I don't think it matters what floor you are on and what floors are below.  That only affects whether or not the floor down button is enabled, not whether it is displayed.

I don't think your button is being hidden by another toolbar.  You should see a little arrow/flag symbol on your toolbars if all of the tools are not being shown.  I assume this is the same on the mac but I don't really know for sure.

I think you probably accidently removed the floor down button.  You could try going into "customize toolbars" and adding the "down one floor" tool back.

Also, you can delete your other thread on the other forum.

Ah. Yes, you have to drag in the icons up from the customize toolbars menu on a mac... Thank you!!

Other thread is deleted. I apologize for the mess!

Grab the 3 vertical dots just left of the one and drag that toolbar down into the drawing area and let it float there.

    What happens?

Same thing. I just get the small window with only the up arrow.

Are you on Floor Level 0 ?

I am working on Floor Level 0, but still can only go up

  3. Hi Everyone, I'm having trouble with not having the down arrow display on my tool palette. I'm able to use the hot keys as a workaround, but it would be ideal to have the visual button there to click on. See a screenshot below. Thanks!!

You can get close with the Edit Wall Layer Intersections tool, probably better than what I show.

I tried that and it does the same thing as clicking the yellow error triangle. Is it a Mac thing?

  5. Hi everyone. I am working on a house design that has some interesting angles in it and Chief is making things a bit difficult. The images below show the error I'm getting regarding off angle walls and what happens when I tell chief to ignore the off-angle wall. How can I resolve this? (.plan is uploaded in a zip file.)

  6. Hey folks. I'd like to learn how to use macros and how I can create my own simple custom macros. What's the best way to start? Not seeing much in the chief video library. Thanks!

  7. Hey folks - We have a layout file created for a project we've been working on. However, we now made some updates to our layout template and would like to use the new layout template for the existing layout file. Is there an easy way to switch these out?

  8. Hey everyone,

I've included an image here to refer to. Check out the layout file. It has an icon that is typically associated with Sketchup. This happened on another project, too. If I double click the file to open, it tries to open in Sketchup which obviously doesn't work. I am able to right click and "open with" chief and it works fine. But the question remains - why is this happening? Couldn't find any other mention of such a thing on this group. Anyone have any ideas?

  9. Hey folks - I have two questions...

    1. I have a .plan file that is 120 MB so I can't upload it here. This doesn't seem normal right? What could I have done to make it so large?! It is a big house. But, even when I made a copy and stripped out a bunch of stuff, it only reduced the size to 117 MB.

    2. Instead I'm attaching a PDF to explain my next question. There is a mystery rectangle that I can not select in order to delete it. I have tried turning all layers on and unlocking all the layers, but I still can't seem to select it! (It's the rectangle with yellow fill where the pool table is shown.)

    Thanks!

Have you opened the PDF itself?

I opened your plan, selected and opened the PDF box and changed the filename to one on my system and it displayed.

The pdf file opened fine. But you inspired me to make a copy of the pdf and give it a new name. When I relinked to the new file from CA, it worked! Thanks!

In the shared plan there is NO PDF file, only its "placeholder" (the actual file is associated with the plan file but is not visually present).

the thing to understand is that when you assign a material or import an image or PDF it is ONLY referenced in the plan. The plan file is reading it from a location on YOUR hard drive, it is not embedded in the plan file but it is just being associated with the plan file while it is actually physically  located  somewhere on your computer.

What probably happened is you  perhaps renamed the file or deleted or changed its original location AFTER you imported it into your plan file. Plan files read material and image files that are physically elsewhere on your  computer and IF you ever move them, change their original location or name all that is left in the plan file visually is a blank placeholder as you currently have now.

I already checked that. The file is properly linked on my computer with no warning light. It is still not showing up though.

Imported images and PDF files are assigned by Default to the "CAD Default" layer so if for some reason that layer is turned off (unchecked) in Display Options for your plan view, it would of course not show visually while still "being there". Check for that. If no joy, I will download and look at your plan file.

Thanks for the replay David. I just checked to make sure - it's on a new layer I created that is turned on.

  13. Hi everyone,

When I was in CA11 and I started the attached drawing and imported a pdf of a survey. Now that I am working in CA12, the pdf is not showing up. I relinked it to the file and saved in plan and I can click on it and open the dialogue box, but I can't actually see it. I tried to re-import the pdf and it still doesn't show up when I place it. Anyone know what gives? (Plan attached - it's on plot plan anno set.)

  14. Hi everyone. We have three designers in our office and on any given project there are at least two people will be working on a single drawing file. Here's our problem - when one person creates a custom texture, it does not show up when the other designer opens the plan. Instead it just shows as white. Has anybody discovered a way to solve this problem? Is there a way to embed the texture in the plan so it is linked to the file, not the person who created it?

Open the schedule and add the Type column.

Thanks!  (They couldn't call it door type since that's what it's called!?)

I'm still wondering if there is a way to make custom fields or a video I can watch? I'd still like include some other information that's not automatic (privacy vs passage, hole boring/backset, the name of a manufacturer's color/sheen, frosted or decorative glass, etc.)

  16. I just downloaded CAx12 (yes I know I'm behind). Every time I try to install it, it gets stuck on "Running package scripts". See photo attached. When I try to stop it (by trying to restart my computer), it finally says it's installed. However, while the software is indeed installed, the data folder is not and I get a bunch of other warnings. See 3 pictures attached. I have no idea why or what to do. But CA won't operate correctly without it.

It stops for me as soon as I add a Ceiling Light........

When was the last time you redid you Chief Template Plan as this plan has no Saved Plan Views and they are been around for 2-3 version now....

You apparently don't have the latest version of X12 either as I have to agree to overwrite the file with a newer version when saved.

    Mick.

We don't use the Chief Template. It's terrible. We created our own that works for us. We haven't upgraded to x12 yet since it has been hard to cross coordinate with the Pandemic. We will soon though.

The first time I added the ceiling light on the Hightower plan, it did not work. The second time it did. I went back to the Quinn plan and tried again but no success, but it's in a closet so who cares. At least I have a tool that I can try if this happens on other plans. Thanks everyone.

Hmm.  Did you manually position a light source as I suggested...obviously not at that same ceiling intersection.  I’m away from my computer right now but before I posted earlier, I placed a simple 4 inch recessed light on the flat ceiling and it fixed the problem right away.

Yes, I also placed a 4 inch recessed light on the flat part and no luck. It's also happening in this other plan I attached - it's on the face of the broom closet next to the exterior door in the laundry room. Again a manually placed a light fixture but that did not fix it.
