  1. I'm not sure where these came from! If I select the one on the left, it says it's part of the front second story balcony 'room' (to the left of it) while the protrusion on the right is from a second story balcony 'room' that is clear on the back of the house! Any idea what's happening? I've tried deleting the walls surrounding the balconies and redrawing them but the protrusions come back.

    Thank you

I am not even sure if a toolbar reset would fix that but you could try if there is nothing to loose, but first I would maybe change your "Save Dialog Size and Position" to "Never" and do a restart to see if that works.

Is there any chance you last used that with a different display configuration ?

Thanks DB  "I would bet that "reset dialog sizes" brings it back."   Not sure why I missed that.....  See Below

I use a laptop and a larger monitor. Your reference to display configuration helped. I had my larger monitor set up as the main display which may have caused the problem. I just now reset my laptop to be the main display and the dialog box now appears.

I'm not sure how you "reset dialog sizes". Would that allow me to keep my larger monitor as the main one?

  3. I'm not sure when this happened because it used to work..... but, when I launch my ray trace assistant, the dialog box doesn't come up. I use dual monitors and have closed all other programs to make sure it's not hiding anywhere. I can tab and return enough to finally get my curser back but can't access the assistant itself.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks....

Another Option then is to "insert" the Block , from those already used in the Plan from

CAD > Cad Block Management > (select fixture) >Insert > Click in plan to place the block.

    M.

That works like a charm! I've been using CA for almost 10 years and still learn new things. Or maybe I knew them and forgot them?!?!

    Thanks again.

You could go through the "open symbol" dialog and change an outlet from being "wall mounted" to being "floor mounted".  You could also put it on a fake wall and mark the wall as invisible.

But why not just use electrical schedule with the actual outlets that are in the plan?

I apologize... I used the wrong terminology. I am creating an electrical 'legend' and need to add the fixtures. Editing the symbol and changing it to floor mounted worked. I guess I've never edited a symbol before and was opening the 'object' not 'symbol' so couldn't find placement options.

    Thank you

  6. Hi,

I'm trying to update my electrical schedule with all the fixtures I'm using on a plan. Some of the electrical symbols require a wall to be able to be placed on the plan.

How can I get a copy of the symbol to place in my schedule without having to add a wall to do it?

    Thanks

A monolithic slab does not have stem walls.

And rebuild the foundation (and I'd keep auto rebuild on) to see the current foundation plan.

If you really need to see the walls, they can be shown with reference display.

You are not using saved plan views so you are missing out on the functionality they bring to creating plan sets. Suggest you get up to speed on them and start using.

    Thank you for your response.

I guess what I really meant was that the outside line of the foundation/slab was not showing up. Only the interior dashed line of the footing. I've figured out a work around.

I've never used saved plan views. I've always used layer sets to accomplish what I needed. Since your response, I've watched a few videos but am confused why saved plan views would do anything more than layer sets and active defaults. You still have to set up layer sets for saved plan views. It seems redundant. What am I missing?

    Thanks

    Thanks`

  8. I've never done monolithic slabs and am having issues with the foundation plan. This is a house for southern Florida so has 8" exterior block walls.

For some reason, only the garage and common walls with patios are showing up. For the life of me I can't figure out why the exterior walls of the house are invisible. They are the same wall type. I need all the foundation plan walls to look like what the garage walls are showing.

    I'm sure I'm missing something....

    Thanks

You're welcome.  Which one worked though?  Or did you do all 3?  I didn't actually make all the changes in your plan, but I'm pretty sure Item #3 would alleviate the need for Item #1.

#3 worked to bring up the 1/2" of slab floor height but then my walls bottoms were off. #2 worked for those.

I've been using this program for 7 years and haven't even begun to use all the options and commands. I wasn't aware those were even available. I do now and know they'll be very helpful. I've been adjusting the wall heights manually.

You learn something new every day!!!

    Thanks again.

  10. I'm stumped....

I am working on a 4-plex on a sloped site so the floor levels of each unit are different. On the left end unit, when I try to change my standard basement floor level from -119 5/8" to -95 5/8" it works in all the 'rooms' but won't stay changed in the 1/2" space between the firring walls and the foundation walls. I've tried changing a firred wall to have no room definition so it included the 1/2" space but then the whole room goes back to the -199 5/8". I've tried everything I can think of and it just won't stay at -95 5/8".

I've moved the footings up to the proper location but as you can see in the .pdf view, the windows are 24" too low and the slab in that 1/2" space is 24" too low. I can't seem to figure out how to get it to appear accurately. I've included the plan file just in case. I'd appreciate any ideas.

    Thanks

btw... I'm using CA Premier X12

Without opening the plan I can tell you that it is because one of the roof planes is not connected to the other and is possibly not coplanar.  Use the adjoin roof plane tool to get them to join together properly.  BTW  Chief has a pretty good auto-roof tool once it is learned how to be used.  Some very complex roofs can be done automatically without any adjustments at times.  Saves a lot of time once you learn how to use it.  Let Chief do the heavy lifting and make necessary adjustments at the end.

Yes... I use the ' join roof plane' tool all the time and occasionally use the 'build roof' option as well.

In this instance, there is another roof plane below it - but not touching the upper roof plane. If I pull the lower roof plane away so that it is no longer up against the exterior wall of the upper roof plane, the line goes away. Once I pull the lower roof plane back against the outer surface of the exterior wall, the line reappears.

  12. I'm viewing a house I've drawn in perspective full overview and one of the roof planes has a line extending out into space. If you click on the line, it highlights the front roof plane over the den upstairs.

I've had this happen before and have had limited success in just deleting the roof plan or wall and starting over. However, this time, none of that has helped and I can't figure out how to eliminate the line.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  13. I just downloaded the latest update to X11 and ever since my trusses are acting differently. Normally when you open a truss or move it, the TR-# will re-label to the smallest unused number available or to match another identical trusses TR-#. It's not doing that anymore. In fact, I've had a tough time getting it to graphically change to an end truss once I check the end truss box. It has also allowed two similar trusses (one an end truss and one not) to be labeled with the same TR-#. I've had a tough time getting it to recognized that they are indeed different trusses.

Any idea why or how to fix this?

    Thanks

  14. I am putting together a 6-plex where each unit is 30" higher than the one to the left. I'm assuming to do this I have to edit the floor and ceiling heights of each room on each floor of each unit after the 1st one. However, the 1/2" space between the basement firring walls and the foundation wall refuses to adjust. It stubbornly insists on staying at the -107 5/8" of the first unit. I've tried opening up that space to a room, adjusting the room heights, and then closing the walls but that doesn't work.

I am using Premier Version 10.

    Two questions:

-is there an easier way to adjust the heights of each unit without going to each room on each floor?

-how do I get the 1/2" space to adjust?

    Thanks for any help
