  1. Thanks to all who have contributed to my education on this. I finally was able to spend some time playing with all this new info and found I was able to not only fix the problem but now have a clearer understanding of how it all works..

I was able ,with all the help I received, to fix all the walls except one. After some frustrating time trying to figure this out I found that the wall, which showed in all views , did not appear when I looked at the overlay view of the 2 floors. I still have no idea what I did or how to fix it. I had the time just to redraw that floor and it came out fine.

This is my first CAD program and to date my experience with it has been drawing simple floor plan alterations and elevations. This is the first attempt at drawing a complex structure. Now after  the room has cleared of the smoke coming out my ears ,I feel more confident thanks to all the help I received.

  2. Ok just to clarify things I did not paint anything yet. I specified wall finishes in the defaults when i drew them and they remained as defined until they didn't  :). I guess I could've inadvertenly  changed it somehow but I honestly don't know how that could have happened. The fact that I can't now change the finish at all leads me to believe there is a problem other than me.

I have tried defining by room, by default settings and by selecting walls in every view. Each time the definitions are correct but does not change to the finish shown .

I will play with. the material region as Jon suggests and which I'm not familiar with .

Thanks again for everyones efforts .

  3. X6  and struggling

I've never had  a problem with material or wall definitions but now from out of nowhere all my walls now have exterior siding on both exterior and interior surfaces. I've tried selecting each wall and redefining them and I've tried changing the defaults.

I've selected them in all views and whenever I find a way to redefine them I have. Can't imagine what caused the change.

Have I just gone brain dead from staring at this screen or do I have a glitch here?

  4. X6 with little experience

I have had little success finding info on raked walls. I'm trying to create a building with 3 shed roof planes with same pitch ,

different heigths but  shared common walls. when I create the separate roof planes  they snap together to form a single plane.

I've even tried building two walls next to each other at the different required hts but the planes still become one.

I've looked at all the wall questions posted that I could find.

can someone recommend a traing video or source that would address this?

    thanks,

    J

  5. Ok .  I draw a line, select it, open it to line specifications  and change the line weight to a number other than what is previously selected.

The line weight specifies layer and a line weight of 18. I tried changing it with and without layers checked. neither works. This is how I have always done this starting with X3. I don't get it.

  6. seems I'm having a number of little glitches since downloading X6.

The irritating one today is trying to change cad lines sizes,. Simple in X5 but can't change no matter what I try.

In the past I've always just selected the line, opened it for editing and changed the size.

Simple right? and I'm wondering why this has been changed in X6 and how it's done now or if I'm having a problem at this end.

I've tried this in new plans and existing ones without success.

    Help is appreciated.

  7. Yes you're right Lew ,I've been struggling to think of what PTP could possibly mean . It's humbling enough just learning this program without having to learn a new language as well. :) Is there possibly a list or dictionary of the abbreviations that may apply here?

I will try to explain what I'm trying to do but will also attempt to post a plan tomorrow when I can.

initially I used the roof plane tool to create a flat roof but could not find a precise way of making the arc.to follow the bowed wall below .So , with the cad tools I made a polyline solid with the arc I needed. That worked well until we decided to add some pitch to the roof plane. Now I can't a way to tilt the poly line to follow the pitch. This explanation may be hard to visualize so I appreciate your patience and willingness to help out here.

I'll try to "PTP" when I get to work tomorrow

Thanks to everyone helping out here.

  8. I used two layers of a polyline solid to create a flat pitch and curved roof line to follow a bowed wall below. Worked fine to match the curve and to use different materials for the upper and lower parts.

Then we decided to pitch the roof and can't figure out how to have the polyline solid follow the pitch. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Jess

I'm designing a home with different height floors and shed roof planes.. No problem with that but after completing the interior with soffits, cabinets etc. I decided to lower one roof plane. Selecting floor and changing the heights in the structure tab has no effect. I tried removing the roof plane altogether but that made no difference. I checked different camera views ,sections etc. but there is no change in any view.

Anyone have an idea what I'm doing wrong?

  10. X5 windows 7.....  pretty new at this

When using the eyedropper to change color on a window casing I do all the usual steps. Click the eyedropper, click on a color I want to match, dropper changes to roller, click on casing and rather than changing color the window moves.

It works fine on other materials just not these particular windows.

Anyone have a clue why this might be happening?

    thanks

    Jess

  11. Thanks DJP for responding and explaining the roof plane control..

Yes I understand setting the wall height by selecting the room. And I understand how to change floor and ceiling heights in each room.

What I am asking though Is how you change one wall of a room not all of them.

In other words I have three walls of a square room at one height and the remaining wall I want at a different height. I know I can edit a wall in a camera view but I see no way to input accurate dimensions this way.

Am I really that dense or is this not a very intuitive system?

Thanks again for your patient and thorough explanations.

I have adjoining rooms that have different roof heights.

It seems the only way I can put a roof plane on the lower level room is to  add a second ( double wall ) next to the common one at the height for that room.

Is there another way to do this with out adding the second wall?

Also ,it seems that I can only control the wall by selecting the room and inputting a height for all the walls of that room. Is there a way to control an individual wall ? I see if I go to a camera view I can change the wall dimensions but can't find a way to input an exact dimension.

    Thanks,

    Jess

I imported a PDF  topo map and when trying to add text or picture and conform to angles needed they come out skewed and fuzzy. Tried rotating  topo image and no help.

Often when importing a snapshot from one plan to another the image is fuzzy.

    any advice appreciated.

Finished up exterior views last night. Printed PDF shots of exterior elevations and all ok.

This morning I pull up my file, checked a camera view and the image was miniscule! Can't zoom it up and all camera views result in the same small image.

    Other files are fine.

I see printed at the bottom of each view that there are 11,000 or more surfaces processed.

    Is that a clue?

Thanks loads to anyone who can help.
