  1. Robert,

Thank you for the offer. The surveyor did get back to me, stating she could not explode the file or it would not hold any elevation data. She sent me a text file. I cannot seem to find any good info on how to import a text file. When I go to File>Import Elevation Data(.txt) and start the wizard, I get an error message (line 12) after the first step of selecting the file.

Anyone have a good resource for importing elevation data as a .txt file?

I'm obviously very green as this surveyor/elevation data stuff. Any good general training this?

    Thanks,

  2. David,

Any chance you'd be willing to look at my DWG file. I've asked them to explode the CAD blocks, as from what I've researched I believe the only way  to get the elevation information is with a DWG file that is not grouped together at all. The file they sent has many CAD block groups - and when I explode myself there is no elevation data. When I convert to elevation data - there is still none. I assume this is because I am starting with a file that uses CAD blocks.

I've tried explainng this to the surveyor, but there is a language barrier. I've emailed twice (2nd just this morning),but they do not seem the best at responding. I'd like to make sure I am understanding all of this correctly, so that I do not waste their time. They must be quite busy.

  3. You all have saved me in the past, hoping you can save me now.

I've watched various videos on how to import an DWG file and the elevation data. I've tried this multiple times, and zero elevation data/points are coming through - all I get is a flat terrain. I've even used the advanced mapping layers option - nothing seems to work. I called the surveyor to make sure this was a 'live' file and not just text and lines. He has a very heavy accent and I have a hard time communicating with him. He did say everything should be in the file and I'd have to "import the DWG file".

Attached is my plan file and the DWG file. I tried to upload the DWG file, but I get a message that I am unauthorized to upload this type of file. I'd be happy to email to anyone who is willing to help me out!

    Any help is much appreciated,

  4. Yes - Eric that worked! Haha. This is my first time using CA. You saved my day!

DS Hall - thank you as well. I had the 'use ceiling finish' both checked and unchecked and it didn't do anything. Maybe just a glitch today, or maybe there was another basic step I was forgetting.

Thanks again - this forum is keeping me sane.

    Best,

  5. I am about to pull my hair out.  I want to change the vaulted ceiling material from a white tongue and groove to a pine tongue and groove. I have done this is 3 locations, with no success. I've changed it in the room definitions structures tab (ceiling finish), room definitions materials tab, and the roof plane definitions. I do not have the 'use ceiling finish' checked in the roof plane definitions.

For some reason my plan will not upload. Go figure.

    Thank you in advance,

  6. Hello all,

Rich, My"Opaque Window Glass" box is unchecked. Any other ideas?

DS Hall, I've inserted some photos. The glass around the center door needs to be a white wood panel. For the other wood panels I'm using a window treatment of raised wood paneling. I thought this would work, but it will not. For one, the wood paneling will not cover the entire length of the windows that plank the door. For two, they show perfectly to the clients current conditions (very slim molding/frame) on one side of the wall, but on the opposite side, they show a thicker molding which is not true to the current design (we are adding a few windows and acoustic panels, but not changing this area of the wall). I guess my other option is to use a 3D molding, but with how easy CA is suppose to be to use, I thought their would be an easier solution.

    Thanks much, all!

  7. Hello!

I am unable to change the material where two of my walls intersect, shown in the photo enclosed. On the floor plan, it is where the 8' dimension marker is pulling from. Does this have to do with the Wall Connection? I tried looking into it, but so far have not found much.

    Thank you in advance,

  8. Hello again - you all have been so helpful! This is my 3rd post in about 3 days!

In perspective view, I am unable to see my foundation wall or floor. I can see this in elevation and orthographic. ? I looked under preferences, room specifications, and wall specifications. Thought someone might have an immediate answer.

    Thanks much!

  9. I have an exterior railing I am trying to mimic, where there is just a newel at the bottom and top of stairs, with a railing to connect. How do I best do this? I don't want a landing rail and I don't want balusters. Any ideas? Download a specific railing?

  10. Hello! I am new to Chief Architect - have used Revit previously. I have a carport (room set as Open Below), and need the driveway underneath it to slope/incline. I think the issue has something to do with the room setup, as the space below is shown as white. As I change my elevation lines/features, that white region does not change. I have attached an image for reference. If you have any ideas or even what topics to search under, it would be helpful!post-12305-0-92098300-1465575955_thumb.jpgpost-12305-0-92098300-1465575955_thumb.jpg
