Is this a new problem?
Did something change that might have caused it?
This is a new problem. My brother did upgrade my laptop and reinstall windows, and also reinstalled Chief. I guess it has been since then, but it has been on all 3 of the devices I have Chief loaded onto.
Thanks,
Anna

Hello everyone,
My library browser shows all of my folders, subfoldrs, and items, but when I try to access the library from the box spefication tool, say to change a material or to add a fill, I get the list of folders but they are not selectable and not sub folders show (no arrows to open the folder, etc). See attached image. Additionally, it shows some sub folders for some specificati box items and not for others - when I go to Open Dialog Box>Materials>Select New Material my manufacturer and user library sub folders show and are selectable. When I go to Fill Pattern>Library> all folders show but not subfolder and they do not open.
I do use dropbox, and have my libraries saved in dropbox so that I can access from my multiple computers. I'm assuming the issue has something to do with this.

I'll add to this gripe. I was just getting ready to print my plan, and what do you know...flush eave stopped working on one roof plane! Proceed to hair pulling and cursing (but quietly so no one hears). I've lost track of the # of times I've had to manually build these eaves. Now I'm past frustration and anger. I'm just going to sit here and cry for a bit!
Acer, can you point me to where to learn how to manually build the eaves?

I don't know if I should be happy to sad that this is not just me - happy I'm not an idiot and can't figure it out - sad because there is no easy fix for it. Ugh....

Yes, I had tried removing the exterior casing of the storm door but keeping it for the main door, thinking that the doubling up of it was the reason it was cutting back/recessed. Knew if I came to this group they would have an answer for me quicker than I could find it!

Hello C.A. Network!
I have added two doors to the same opening to provide a storm door. The exterior casing of the storm door is cutting into the siding and showing the sheathing. I tried messing with a few settings, no luck.

See this article:
https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00285/restoring-the-living-area-label.html
Also, what Scott and Joe are saying are correct, though changing a floor area to conditioned on level 0 will still not produce an area label.
For this particular case, instead of adding a new foundation level 0, simply add a macro to report the area of your ground zero...there are many different ways of doing this
I finally had time to circle back to this issue. The article that Renerabbit provided had the answer! Thank you! It is as simple as adding a Living Area macro text box.
Thank you to everyone who took time to help look into this issue for me!
Best,
Anna

Hello,
I would like to change the name of the molding profile extrusions library items so that the room schedule can be accurately read by our trades people and suppliers. I can't seem to find how to do this, nor am I able to right-click and rename from the library browser.
I'd assume there would be a way to do this...
Thank you for your time and assistance,
Anna

NICE....
I spoke too soon, I"m still having issues.
I deleted my foundation, build new blank foundation plan and copied in place your plan. I now have the LIVING AREA label, but no area total. It must be a weird setting I have in my plans....
Also, I initially had one wall for my foundation furred out walls, but that had issues when in 3D views.
Anyhow...I'll have to circle back to this later, or try the having the foundation on level 1.
Thanks,
Anna

Interesting issue – it should be solved in the attached plan. Because you used two walls for your exterior furred wall there are several little wall segments (visible & invisible). Perhaps you could build one wall type for the exterior block and the interior fur to make it easier?
To ‘fix’ it quickly:
I copied your plan, deleted the basement level, rebuilt it as an empty floor and did a copy/paste hold position from your original plan (with all layers on)
Thank you everyone! While you all had good ideas to verify, looks like this was the trick. I just recently started using furred walls, which is about when I started having this living area problem. I didn't connect the two.
Thank you very much for all of your input and work!

Hello,
My Living Area for the entire floor is not showing for level 0, nor will the Plan Check bring it back. Any ideas?

Got it - thank you!

It sounds like X8 is still the Default "Handler" for .calibz Files , you can go to
Settings>Apps>Default Apps> Scroll to bottom >choose Defaults Apps by File Type>
scroll down and find .calibz > Click on the Program name (X8?) and choose X9 or X10 > Ok/Close Settings....
it doesn't normally need a Reboot by may ...

Mick,
I am having this same issue. When I go through your steps, X10 does not show up. Any ideas?
Thank you,

I've found Flush Eaves to be somewhat buggy.
I'd start by correcting all the obvious issues with the plan. Walls that are out of alignment, redraw the roof plane doing away with the roof hole, join all the roof planes (with the join command, not just by eye) and align the edges, check eave heights, and so on. The cleaner the model, the better for the roof.
After I fixed the 2 roof planes over the front gable, both flush eaves show. The eave overhangs were different -- easily seen in elevation, and the roof planes were not centered over the gable wall.
When drawing roof planes like this that should be symmetrical about a point, you can draw one (correctly), the copy/reflect about the point (center line) and then join at the ridge.
Eric,
I seem to have continuous problems with my walls and roof planes. I've viewed a few different roof tutorials. I have no idea why the wall issues. There is something I am not understanding. Are their any training videos you'd recommend, something that goes into a little more detail about how the program works and wants things set up to function properly?
If not, no worries.

David,
Looks like that will do the trick. Thank you!

Hello everyone,
This is an old file. We did a few designs for them about 1.5 years ago, and now they came back for a downsized scope. I was new to Chief when we started this project. So not sure if their is a setting that is messing this up or what.
In elevation view, the fireplaces does not show (E10). It is on a layer I have set as active. I've tried changing the walls to No Room Definition or No Locate. The No Room Definition helps in that the fireplace is then visible in the Elevation View. However, the rest of the walls are messed up.
Attached is file and photos.

Yes, thank you for the info. We did review this prior and believe all should be fine.

Johnny, we are looking at wrapping the ceiling around the beam. Always appreciate design advice.

Hello C.A. Brianiacs,
Wondering if there is a way the ceiling height can be automatically adjusted when changing roof framing member sizing.
We are design/building a 2 1/2 story 2-unit multi family home (the owners of the GC company I work with has many rental properties). We are cutting it close to local code requirements in overall building/ridge height and the headroom on the 1/2 story. We got some framing info back from our lumber yard. I went in to update the ridge beam size and rafter size for the gable dormers. I used the auto rebuild roofs option. It put in the larger ridge beam, but the ceiling height remained the same, so the ridge beam is actually sticking out below the finished ceiling. There are multiple rooms and partial rooms that are underneath this dormer (2 dormers, actually). It would get quite difficult or sticky for me to do this manually.
Attached is an image.

I understand this thread is a few years old. I have recently change computers, and trying to migrate all of my special settings. I watched a video that state Chief recommends you do not copy & paste old template and layout files to the new version, as it may override the updates available in the new version. It sounds like a number of people just have a separate folder and point C.A. to it for the template and layout files....will that solve the issue of not overriding the new version updates?
I'm not a techy person...so maybe not following.
Thanks for you help.

Hello brilliant C.A. users!
I run into wall issues often, so there is something basic I am not understanding about how chief builds the 3D model. Example in photo attached. There is multiple sections to an automatically created polyline 3D wall. How do I get this to be one solid wall? Also, this wall needs to be siding for the top exterior portion, and drywall/paint for the lower interior portion. I can't seem to figure this out.
FYI, this is an old file, and is from when was just starting to understand Chief. So, it will not be pretty to dig into, I'm sure.
Any guidance on what I am not understanding is appreciated!

Me again, 2nd post today.
I'm sure it's another easy setting that I am missing. My flush eaves do not seen to show in Elevations or 3D. What am I doing wrong?
-
Thank you, Mick. I do start all projects at 0,0, but with my brainstorming do a lot of copy and paste, so the final plan that is decided on is far away from the initial 0,0. I didn't realize it was an issue. Do you think doing what Eric has outlined above will work, or is it best to copy and paste into a new plan, to start at the 0,0?
Library Files Error, Not Loaded
in General Q & A
Posted
I have Chief X12 on (3) computers; work desktop, home desktop, and laptop. I placed my library files on the cloud, so that all computers were pulling from the same place. I recently had my laptop serviced and windows was reloaded, which meant Chief had to be reinstalled. I told my bother I would do it, but I think he thought he'd help me out and he reinstalled Chief. Since then, the majority of my library files are missing. As in, almost none of the previous catalogs I downloaded are showing as folders in my library. When I went to my Dropbox to ensure they were still there, I see this 'error' at the end of every file.
Additionally, I downloaded the catalogs via software assurance, which I no longer have. Hoping I do not have to purchase all of the catalogs, being I did have the assurance program for 3 of the last 4 years.
Any ideas or help is appreciated!
