  1. Joe,

    I don't get that behavior.

Using Chief's OOB template/profile plan, I can change the Current CAD Layer of the layer set that sections open in (Defaults/Layer Sets/Cross Sections/Section View Set/Current CAD Layer)), & auto-detailing still goes on the CAD, Default layer. I have not been able to create a situation where auto-detailing goes on any other layer.

Have you been able to do that?

  2. Interesting Joe. from Chief's OOB template/profile plan for X5, auto-detailing goes on the CAD, Default layer, no matter what layer set or anno set is active.

From my X5 profile plan, auto-detailing goes on the DEFAULT CAD LAYER, no matter what. The CAD, Default layer is still present in my profile, but Chief doesn't use it.

    Hmmmm.......

  3. I want auto-detailing on a separate layer from anything else- all by itself.

& I want to be able to draw other CAD stuff on the current CAD layer.

& I want to be able to do that w/out any extra clicks, however my anno sets are setup.

    .........like it used to work.

Can you give me all that w/ the way Chief works currently?

  4. I'm w/ you, BBTYLER.

I preferred how it always worked 'til X6. DEFAULT CAD LAYER. I really want the auto-detail CAD stuff to have a layer all its own so I can easily isolate & edit.

Now I have to remember to change the current CAD layer before I auto-detail. It would be nice if we could assign a default layer for auto-detailing to go on, regardless of the Anno Set current CAD layer.

  5. Copy/paste/hold is the correct/best  answer to the user's specific question..........how to show show different plan views in the exact same place on different layout pages.

    Works pretty cool.

You only ever need to send one plan view to layout. after that, it's copy/paste/hold from one page to another. Unless, of course, you already have all plan views already sent to layout in your template. In that case, you never have to send a plan view to layout.

  6. Get the view where you want it on a single page, then copy/paste/hold to the other pages. You can change floors & anno sets of each view right from the dbx you get when clicking on the layout view border. Change layer sets from the edit toolbar that you get when selecting the layout view border.

  7. Larry,

I have seen this numerous times but only w/ SOG room defs on the floor above AND the foundation was originally built automatically. I usually have to delete the auto-built foundation & build the floor manually to clear that problem up. Copy/paste/hold position is a life-saver.

  8. Have a look at the  "Components" dbx for each item. (Just about all objects have a components dbx.) Enter your data there, & it will be included in every materials list you generate. Learn how to create a Master List & how to update from/to.  Using  components & master list you should get what you want- for the most part. lotta work to set up & get off the ground but, once you have it..........

  9. Might be in your temporary dimension defaults? Mine look like attached image. & I usually get what you want.

It also matters where you click on the door/window where the temporary dimension appears- which side of the wall.

Even w/ that, temporary dimensions don't always behave like I think they should.

  10.

-"you have dimensioned to cross section lines.........."

    Turn off that layer.

Chief does a pretty good job of locating finished floor & c'lng, 3D objects like cabinets, fixtures, doors & windows w/ not a lot of extra BS dimension points. Be sure to have your preferences selected in "Locate Objects" in dimension defaults.

  11. tabs can be controlled to some extent by doing it in MS Word & then copy/paste into Chief rich text dbx. Yuck!! X6 seems to have more text issues than X5. I have had to give up my preferred font- Helvetica in X6. it's just not worth the hassle.
