It says to create in 2D (Plan view) and edit in Cross section/Elevation view? i was the only video that shows up when I type in "Chimney" for video search?

using X8 on a mac. I'm trying to create a fireplace like they show in the video's, but, It doesn't seem to work? [Let me elaborate] I want to create a sloped sided chimney with a second fireplace underneath (lower level). I have created a polyline solid (like shown in the videos), gone to a Cross section/elevation view to Clip/Trim the edge, but that tool isn't available in that view? Only in the 2D floor plan view? Thanks for your help! Also, I want to create a foundation (Lower) for this area as it will be a walk out/English basement? Do I need to wait to do that in the Plot Plan Terrain portion when I get there?

Hi all. I'm having trouble trying to delete or adjust an object? (Hole in a roof plan). I'm trying to create dormers with curved roofs (Barrels). I've gone through the videos on doing this and have a fair idea on different ways it can be done, I've created a hole in the roof plane by creating a "Polyline" and converting it to an object (Hole in roof), but now I can't adjust or delete it? I've been successful on here with two other "Dormer roofs" (Auto Floating Roof Dormers), but this one I did by creating 2nd floor walls and cutting a hole in the roof (Seems to have more control on making a dormer?). More detail: The roof is based on the first floor walls but the dormers are on the second. I can highlight the roof on the first floor plan view but when I highlight it and try to delete it, it shows up again on the 3D views?

Thanks Renerabbitt! That was it. I had the lines and colors (Slightly transparent) so they go lost in the transfer! All fixed and can now re-submit!! DzinEye, Save as pdf!

Ok, I'm baffled?? I am in revisions request from the village on my permit application. One of the things is the Wall detail. I have created a "Wall Legend", explaining all these details. It looks fine. I go to transfer it to pdf for printing, it looks fine. Once it is transferred, it changes???? It leaves out some of the details they are looking for? I am attaching "Screenshots" so you can see the stages and the variations I'm dealing with. The first & second are, active Layout page showing wall legend detail & wall detail on layout drawing. The third and forth are, wall legend & wall detail in Print preview as I'm sending it to PDF. The fifth and sixth are what actually comes out in the pdf version???

Thanks! The page numbering thing I had fixed already (Many ways to skin a cat, so to speak), but the scaling thing is good. How do I then get that to the "Layout set" in a certain location (Title block scale:) easier than sending the whole page and cropping it down then moving it into place on page "0"?

Yes, Layout is where I create a "Layout" template. But, I was answering to the previous comment about using %view.name% instead of what (I believe) you posted referring to it as %view.label%? ............OK, I found Label vs name in the drop downs. Seems to function ALMOST the same, except that, label pulls from Label: and Name, pulls from Selected page. Which is why I change all the verbage to Page vs P. When I first did this, It showed up as "Page" vs "P" because I didn't realize where exactly it was pulling from. So, to make it easier, I changed the verbiage. (Plan vs Layout) Was possible trying to pull the plan page information because I'm pulling from multiple plans for this layout. So now that this has all been changed and working OK (showing the correct information) it shows a flaw in the system (At least in my opinion?). Because everything has to be done on "Page 0" of the layout to automatically generate into the following pages, my "Layout Page Table" shows the first line as being blank, (See below)Page 0. But for now, it's good enough. No advice on the scaling issue?

I believe I'm correct on the scaling printing correctly but, changes as working in plan while zooming in and out? Is there a way to make it display what it will print out no matter what scale I'm working on (Zoom screen)? Thanks again!

I have no idea where that is?? ..............OK I found it, I think, It's blank?? What I found was, "Marker defaults - Default". Is that what you put up? I'm not as worried about the scale because, when I print it, it should be correct on printed page, but, yes, I need to work on that as well. What I am having a problem with is, Referencing the page layout through the "insert" arrow for the text box?

Kbird1, what part of the layout? The whole file? Signatures, Again, is there something other than the "Computer Type" & "Chief Architect" version you are looking for?

Hi All. I'm trying to set up a layout for a project (& Template) and have run into an issue? When I put in my links (Text Inserts) for auto generated data, it is off by 1 page? The layouts start on page "0", (The non printed template and home page which generates the data to the following pages of the layout). The layout pages show correctly in the "layout Page Table", page reference & number, and all the other auto generated information, except when I try to input "Layout" information? As you can see by the screen shots, "Page: 0", On page 0, but, the reference above it, says "Page Description: Index Legends, Notes & Information", which is on page number 1 not 0? I'm on a I-mac, with X-8 Thanks David

Hi All, New topic! I am trying to create Remodeling drawings for a project to present for permit. I can't seem to do it all in one drawing? e.g. Existing walls, Demo Walls, and Proposed walls on the same plan because even with the layers turned off, they interfere with other layers? The Village wants separate sheets (Layout sheets) to reflect the existing, demo (to be removed) and Proposed. I have created different walls for different layers, but, when I work in other layers, they will interfere with what I am drawing in other layers? The only thing I can think of is, work in different "Plans" and send to one "Layout"? Will that work? (Would rather work in one "Plan") David I-Mac on X8

Thanks all. All great responses. A few points and comments/questions. rgardner, yes, I'm trying to add it to, or back to, the library. What is the "Marquee" Selection? What I was trying to do was, Use an existing "Note" (e.g. Construction note, Framing note, etc..) that is currently in the X8 Library, modify it, and then resave it as a "Block" with a different name? I have also noticed that these blocks, act differently? You can "Explode" them in the "Layout". When you double click on them, instead of going to the drawing in the "Plan View", it open a description box. Once you explode them, you can double click them in "Layout View" and modify the content, but, can not re-Block them and add them to the library?

I've watched a few different videos but, they don't seem to address what I'm looking for? I can edit, and add back to the library CAD blocks, except for those in the "Notes & Legends" drop down tree? It acts differently than the other CAD blocks, for example, I can explode both, but, when I explode the Construction notes, it still acts like a CAD block, except the "Save to Library" Icon disappears along with the "make Block" icon? Also, when exploded, on the construction notes, you have to double click on them to open another screen to change the wording, vs changing it on the drawing like the construction detail blocks? I'm working in the Floor Plan before adding it to the Layout. I'm on a mac using x8.

Thanks, that worked! But it does raise some questions that were probably already answered when it was said "I'm confusing the program"? The moulding showed up when I built a room (4 basic walls). Being anilrentetive, moving the masonry wall to the outside is confusing to me? It's a load bearing wall I would think it should be in the "Main" layer? Masonry construction where I'm at (Outside Chicago), means dbl brick. All current modern residential construction is wood frame with brick veneer (I always have to explain what that means to someone who doesn't understand construction) Maybe the program can't decipher that? Either way, thanks, looks great now! Maybe you can help me with another problem? On an L shaped staircase, how do I have One of the two with a wall instead of railing? (Close on top?)

A new twist? I just created a room (Box) in another location of the drawing with the wall I created (Dbl masonry w/fir strips) and put a camera in there, and the crown showed up?? Now I'm really confused! I've closed, save, reopened the drawing many times, and that didn't change anything (Still no crown on outside wall).

More info...........I'm on version X8 on a mac 27" 3.2ghz, 32 GB Ram w/GeForce GT 755M 1GB (Graphics), not that any of that matters, except for maybe which version I'm on (X8). It seems to be only the wall I created (Dbl brick w/fir strips), because all the others are fine. e.g. interior 4&6 and exterior siding 6 (2nd story). They all show both mouldings (base and Crown) as to where the new wall only shows the base moulding? Which makes it even more confusing?? The moulding height seems fine (Set by room, not wall) so, I'm at a loss? But, pretty sure it is with that wall I created (Copied, modified and renamed). I appreciate your help so far, keep the suggestions coming! Thanks!!
