Dimension Strings

Hi everyone,

I'm setting up my dimension defaults and I'm trying to get three dimension strings around the exterior of the building, but I can't get them to show simultaneously.

What I want is:

1. Overall building dimensions (outside to outside)

2. Exterior wall dimensions (face of exterior walls)

3. Interior wall centerline dimensions

Right now I can get either of the following depending on my Locate Auto Exterior settings:

• Exterior wall dimensions + overall dimensions
  OR

• Interior wall centerline dimensions

But I cannot get all three strings to show at the same time.

When I change the dimension default settings it seems to replace the previous dimension string instead of adding another one.

What is the correct workflow in Chief to show these three dimension strings simultaneously around the plan?

For reference:

• I'm using Auto Exterior Dimensions

• Interior walls are set to dimension to centers

• Exterior walls are set to Primary Side

I've attached screenshots of the two results I'm getting.

Add some windows. I think that will be your third string.

 

I have four strings, Overall, ext corners, interior walls, then openings. .... Chief will get some of that close and then I have to finesse from there.I always have to add the 4th string Exterior on its own string.
