Is There A Way To Set Defaults For The Layout Box Specification?

I know we can change the default line weight for Pattern Line Weight / Edge Line Weight - but how do we change the Default Line Color for the Pattern Line Defaults?  I like my patterns to be a thinner line AND a grey color (not black), but I seem to have to manually adjust each view I send to the Layout.  

There must be a way to do this that I am missing.
