How to create a story and half roof with 2 story gable addition

Recommended Posts

I am trying to create a story and a half main house that has a two story gable roof addition.  I have been able to create the story and a half with a 1 story addition but can't figure out how to add a second story to the addition.  The main part of the house has a 10/12 roof (created by build roof options: move roof up 12', ignore 2nd floor).  The goal is to have the main roof 10/12 and the 2 story addition a 6/12 gable.

Pics below are a quick mockup. One showing the successful story and a half w addition.  The other a bit more unusual configuration that I may not be able to get past the building inspector.

Thanks in advance for any help provided.

First post here, this is my first attempt at roof truss. As you will see in the PDF attached the gables that are on the front of the duplex are being supported by the truss that are running in the vertical direction. I am wondering if this is normal as i cannot seem to create truss for the gables on the font of the home. If there is a more effective means of building roof truss for roofs of this style id love to hear them.

How can I enclose the roof overhang so the beams/trusses aren’t exposed when walking outside from French doors? In the picture I colored in red where I’m trying to not have an open overhang. The overhang is 8’, and I will have structural posts to hold up overhang.

      Hi All.

Still new to the program and figuring things out. I have built an automatic roof and am trying to modify it to be a gable roof instead of the default hip roof. I have watched the various videos on how to do this as well as read through forums and have not been able to figure out why my roof will not adjust to a gable after changing each wall to be a gable setting. I've attached screenshots and uploaded the file. The client only wanted a model for purposes of seeing a new deck/stair option and paint color so the roof isn't the most important thing but I still want it to resemble their house.

      Thanks,
      Krissy

Hi, we have a split level home with 2 (meaning double) 2 x 4 exterior walls with a 3.5” air gap in between them for a total (rough) wall thickness of 10.5”. The home has 3 separate roof heights, all with a 5:12 pitch. The home is in central Minnesota (the reason behind the thick walls). I’m just getting started with Home Designer Pro and not sure how to start. I’ve watched some videos, but nothing that would help duplicate our wall design. Do you have some training materials that would help, or someone who could get it started on the software? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hello,  I purchased the Chief Architect software with the thought of designing a garage addition onto my home.   The addition would be a garage on the first level and then a small living area on the second story.  I'm planning to do the second story as a a form of cape cod with dormers since I don't want the garage to overpower my existing home.  The overpowering appearance has been challenging since the new garage has two stalls, one of which requires a 10 foot tall garage door.

I've got the existing home and new garage roughed-in using Home Designer Pro, but I need some help developing the second story floor plan, roof lines, and construction plans.

Let me know if you are interested in reviewing what I have and possibly taking on this task.  I look forward to your reply.  Thanks!
