Partial Walkout terrain fix

I'm looking to eliminate the terrain under the deck to create a partial walk out. I'm having trouble with the terrain tools to be able to accomplish it. There are terrain retaining walls under the deck there but they don't seem to be having an effect. Is there a way to eliminate that terrain part so the walkout door is open?

You can use terrain modifiers, or a terrain hole.
