I have drawn a friends pole building with the existing outside walls with 6x6 studs at 96" and horizontal girts. Now he is going to add living space in parts of it and is going to drywall 3 of the existing outside walls. He plans to add 2x6 studs in between the 6x6's at 16" OC. How do I create this wall? In the wall definitions adding 2x6's just adds an other layer and increases the width of the wall.
Thanks in advance.

1. Drywall shows up for me. Might not show up depending on the layer set you are using.
2. How did you add the molding polylines to the second floor? Did you draw them on the floor plan or in a camera view? If you drew them in the camera view, was your camera set to the 2nd floor when you drew them? I think the problem is that you somehow put the moldings on the first floor. You can probably move them to the second floor by using the "cut" edit tool, moving to the second floor and then using the "paste hold position" tool. You may or may not need to adjust the heights after doing this.
Thank you. Both issues solved.

Hey everyone
Amateur here. Helping a friend design living space in part of a pole building. I have 2 questions.
1. I created the pole building walls and they work fine. I made a copy and added drywall for the ones that will be in the living space. The drywall is not showing on any of the renderings.
2. I used molding polylines to show the rough in for the water drains for the main floor as they exist. I added proposed water drains for the second floor as he wants it set up. But all of them show on the main level. I can't get the ones on the second floor to show on the second floor.
Any help would be appreciated
Fotis.

You can try using the "reset to defaults" tool and check the box for "roof directives".
It worked. Thank you.

I have a fairly complex floor plan and after having auto build a roof I had to make some(lot) of manual changes. Changed some to gable and some to hip. Somewhere along it roof got pretty messed up. When I delete all the roof planes and try to recreate it I get the same messed up roof. Is there a way, after I delete all roof planes, to reset all the walls back to default so I can auto build roof again like it was before all the manual changes.

I want to add an addition to a As Built plan that has a roof that was mostly manually created. I believe I saw a video of a way I can use Auto Roofs on the addition without changing the manually created ones, but I can't find it. I believe there was a setting for the manually created roofs so they are not changed. Can anyone either tell me how to do it or point me to the video. Thanks in advance

I had a play with your file i made some changes
I put a roof hole in the large roof plain front and rear gables
facia heights on large roof plains i made sub facia 15" and eave facia 16" also turned on boxed eaves
I put a molding for deck facia
I made stair floor open below
See if that is what you can use, I think the roof pitch should be stepper like 12 in 12 from looking at your photos
Thank you. This helps a lot.

From looking at your plan and photos it seems like you are on the right track, was there something in particular that you would like to improve on
How do I increase the size of the fascia, and not as important since the plan is just to use it for reference for the addition, how would I use a real dormer instead of the false roof gable?
-
This is how far I've gotten. Does anyone have any suggestions to get it closer to the actual pictures.

Thank you for the video suggestion. That got me to layout the shell of the house. Unfortunately the false gables are just that. No room inside. This house has a second floor (loft). Would like to get a more accurate drawing.

Help needed
I'm a casual user and can't figure out how to build this roof. I want to build this house as an as build to add an addition for a friend. The roof is just beyond my skill level, so any help would be appreciated. I have added pictures of the front and back of the house. Thank you in advance.

i think that is only the case if you navigate to it using the little arrows, and not clicking on the catalog? ..or at least that what happened when I tried it.
once I click on any other catalog it shows in the filter. so how did you click on something without clicking on the catalog it is in?
Yes, you can open a catalog without clicking on it if you just click on the arrow next to it.

I think that is by design, if I click on an individual item, I already know what I am on so i do not need it to show in the filtered results. the filtered results look like anything other than a click on a individual item
Ok, but when you click on a catalog and all the items show in the Filter results, if you click on an item in a different catalog, it doesn't change. The items from the first catalog still show in the Filter Results. If this is by design, I just think that the way it was done in past versions is better and easier to view items.

Is anyone else having an issue with the Library Browser in X15 When clicking on individual items they are not showing up in the Filter Results. If you click on the catalog all the items in it display but if you click on an individual item it doesn't display. I remains showing all items in full catalog.
Has anyone else had this issue? Is it a know issue with X15 Beta?

Thanks for the explanations. Now I understand the manufacture issue.

You have me curious where you were expecting the manufacturer name to come from. Can you expand on that? Were the cabinets or their doors/drawers pulled from a specific manufacturer catalog that you were expecting would be automatically recognized by the %manufacturer% macro?
The cabinets I have are from the Manufacture Catalog (Aristocraft). I just thought Chief uses that info to auto populate the field.

The %manufacture% macro just displays the info that you put into the "manufacturer" object information. You have created an endless loop but apparently Chief already anticipated this and doesn't blow up.
So yes, you will have to manually enter the manufacturer name for all of your cabinets. If you are using the same manufacturer for all of them, just group select them and type it in once.
There are also a whole bunch of manufacture cabinets available in the downloadable libraries.

Just like I thought. So when you want to use a custom counter, you don't need to set the cabinet lower and turn off the automatic counter. Just draw the custom counter over it. It will replace the automatic one and it will be the shape you make it.
Oh, got it. I was unchecking the auto counter top and then adding the custom.
Thank you.

In Chief, the cabinet "height" is always the box height plus the counter top height. If your cabinet schedule is showing two different heights, then you have probably done something that you don't need to (like making one cabinet shorter). You don't need to make your cabinet shorter to use a custom counter top. If you just draw the custom counter over the top of a base cabinet the program will use your custom counter instead of creating an automatic one. If you want your cabinet schedule to show the "box height", all you need to do is remove the "height" column and add the "box height" column. If you actually want to build all of your cabinets at 35" instead of 36", then just set the cabinet height to be 35" and your counter top thickness to whatever you want. If you set up your cabinet defaults this way, then it shouldn't matter whether your cabinet has an auto counter or a custom one.
You don't put %manufacturer% in the object information. You put the actual name of the manufacturer, like "KraftMaid" or "Wellborn". You can use %manufacturer% to extract the manufacturer name when you want to put it into a label or a custom macro.
All of this is just my best guesses, if these don't help you solve your problems, then I recommend that you post a plan (as suggested by Eric).
Thank you for the response. Using the Box height works. Just interesting to me that the schedule uses the total height (cabinet and Counter top) if its an auto counter top but only uses the box height if its a custom counter top. I think its confusing since you end up with two different heights.
As for the manufacture name, isn't the macro %manufacture% supposed to auto fill the name in the Manufacture column? Do I have to manually enter the name on every item ( every cabinet)?
-
Thank you for the responses'. I have downloaded the plan.

I'm a causal user so maybe I'm missing something but, on cabinet schedules it lists the cabinet as 36" including the counter top. Typically cabinets are 35". But if I use a custom counter top the cabinet is 35", which is the correct height. So on the schedule I end up with cabinets that are 35" and 36". Is there a way to set the correct height of the actual cabinet when auto counter top is checked so all cabinets are consistent?
My other question is why isn't the Manufacture not filling in on the schedule? It shows %manufacture% which is the correct macro entered in the object information.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Pole Building walls
in General Q & A

Thanks for the reply. Yes, my friend wants a material and buy list. The posts are 5 1/2x5 1/2 and the girts are on the out side. I'm not a pro so I don't understand what you mean by building a wall on top of it with posts being centered. Are you placing the "normal" in between the the studs?
