    Just went through all of my default settings again, and was able to fix it by checking this box: Preferences > Edit > Cross Hair > Enable in Perspective View

    mydog8it's post in Ceiling soffits only appearing above cabinets was marked as the answer   
    I've found that portions of soffits disappear in 3D if you run them over/through a wall (ie: from a kitchen into a hallway, it will only show in one room or the other). I make two separate soffits, one on each side of the wall, and then they display fine for me.
