  1. Johnny, You are correct about the 2D. :-) Alaskan Son, Thanks for the info. In v10 it's a real pain to get things to look right. I've had to "fudge" things to get them to look correct and my biggest pain is the foundation, the way the slab sits in the garage(pour overs or a true free floatinig slab). I simply can't use Chief like I can AutoCAD...at least not until I can get the latest version. I've broken the roof lines before but can never seem to get Chief v10 to get the "actual" framing and thus the model to look correct. Thanks AK. Good to get a response from a fellow Alaskan. Breakin roof lines. :-)
  2. Hello, First off....YES...I know this is a very old version of Chief(v10). Please reserve your self justification of your success and wealth for someone else. I can't afford the new version. I am seeking help, not criticism. I have attached two files. An elevation I created in AutoCAD and the Chief(v10) *.plan file. The elevation shows what I am trying to do with the roof over the garage door. I can't seem to get this to work. I have broken the roof lines into different pieces and tried to get what I am presuming would be an attic wall to show up above the garage door at the gable roof over the garage door. In reality the framer "over frames" this over the roof sheathing so it's not a cathedral or anything, just a roof over the other roof. This is ONLY for a 3D image for a client and thus why there are no walls in the plan. It's only for a nice 3D image of the exterior. Other thing to note is the foundation is a serious pain in the rear to deal with in v10 and never comes out correct. Most all stem walls and footings up here are set all at the same level, the garage slab is 4" thick, sloped from the rear to the front and the 4" slab is "poured over" the stem wall 4" below the top of the stem wall where the garage door or man door is. So, consequently the foundation part of this plan is not correct. Again, it's only a 3D image for a client. The last thing that does not look correct is the deck railings/posts. No easy way to edit this correctly in v10. Given that I cannot afford an upgrade from this doggedly slow 32 bit v10...I still create my construction documents using AutoCAD. I have looked for help but it's all for the new versions. Any advice or help is greatly appreciated. Thank you ! Tim F1_Plan.plan
  3. Hello, Thanks to anyone that can help me with this. Yes, I know both my versions of software are very old. Just can't afford the upgrades at this time. I am trying to take a 3D object I create in AutoCAD v2011 and bring it into Chief v10.08b. Again, yes, I know older versions. Hopefully someone had this issue some time ago and can help me figure it out. I can get as far as the select object in the "Symbol Wizard, it accepts the dwg version and all, but I don't get the "next" button highlighted. I heard of using the 3dsout command, but that is not available in 2011 and the updated "arx" only goes to 2009 I believe. I have tried saving in all the previous versions available in the saveas and dxf's. Any help is apprecaited. Thank you. Tim
  4. DJP, I watched the you tube video and I think I have figured it out. Roofs are soooo frustrating with this older version. I really appreciate your time. Awesome. Thanks again.
  5. Hello, I am still using an old version(v10.08b)...I know I know...upgrade upgrade....yah yah yah. I simply don't have the money...YET. I was out of it for a while because of the big D. I know I know I know....upgrade upgrade get training get training read the help topics...yah yah yah... I don't have time. I finally got another dog gone job and at the same time I was trying to finish this fiasco up so that I can quit stressing, get it done and get my rent paid. Side note...used to be a mortgage payment...now it's rent. Anyhow. Can anyone help me with this whole roof thing? I have attached the *.plan file. It has some funky roof line edges and the framer is going to have a heck of a time with this. It is not complete with windows, doors and all...and yes, the small existing cabin to the left has correct floor heights. It's an Alaskan cabin that these folks are going to add on to. Different floor heights and it's has been a section nightmare. Please note, I do not use Chief for doing my construction drawings as I have been using AutoCAD for over 22 years and I can sooooooo blaze through the drawings waaaaayyyy faster than I can in Chief. That is NOT a slam on Chief or any of it's users, it's just a fact that I am going with what I know and I know AutoCAD. If anyone can help me I would REALLY appreciate it. I am SERIOUSLY stressing over this. My new job uses AutoCAD but I am going to show them the power of Chief as a tool to use during homeowner meetings and sales and hopefully they will purchase it...which will allow me to tinker more with the latest version. Certainly I won't have to deal with funky arse roof lines like this. I would really love to have the new version of Chief myself, but I can't afford it, not even monthly. I am barely making it. I can send my email address if it's not already visible in my info...I dunno...I am barely online at all cause it's really mind numbing to me. I much prefer being out in the Alaskan wonders and hookin and shooting animals for food. :-) I will even call you on my dime if you can help me to fix it myself with an understanding that I am a novice. I really need to just finish this and move on. Geez I wish I could just have some easy roof lines....but I have had to take what I can get and lately that ain't much. I do SINCERELY appreciate anyone's help, time, knowledge and compassion. With Very Warm Regards, Tim J T-Square Drafting & Design, LLC FHB-15001-2.plan
