  1. Chief changed ceiling heights without me knowing AGAIN. That, and for some reason deleting the garage helped. I'm still having problems though; different heights on the non gable walls and now trusses will only span half the width of the building. C rafter practice_2160SF_4BR_2.5B_3ST(OG)_8'C_11-25-15.plan
  2. My roof was finished and the framing was fine, but then I had to change the size of the top chords in my attic trusses. Increasing the size in the truss spec box didn't raise the roof, but sent the extra width down into the rest of the framing. I changed the value in the default settings and rebuilt it (I tested this in another plan to make sure it works and it did) and now there are sections of the framing missing, most of it won't reach the roof, and my interior walls are different heights. I've triple checked every setting I can think of when rebuilding and I can't get anything to change. Is there a way to have multiple wall types be recognized as a single wall? I think that's what's causing the missing ends on my exterior wall. I'm lost on everything else. C rafter practice_2160SF_4BR_2.5B_3ST(OG)_8'C_11-25-15.plan
  3. I'm trying to do an experiment to figure something else out and I can't even create an attic truss. It says I don't have either a flat ceiling or a floor platform but I have both. I've created attic trusses across 30' with an 8:12 slope before, I don't know what I did different this time. The plan I'm attaching is after I changed some things from the default settings, like ceiling height, in order to get a more flat ceiling. truss experiment.plan
  4. Does anyone know why this happens? I don't want them to be visible on the plan. I'd look at the kitchen; it has two windows, one each of showing and not showing the cripple studs. C_2160SF_4BR_2.5B_3ST(OG)_8'C_11-25-15.plan
  5. There doesn't seem to be a problem when I try adding windows elsewhere. Maybe it has something to do with the stairs?
  6. I'm going around the house to fit custom windows in the framing so that the king studs for the windows are the normal 16" OC studs in the wall. When placing a window it works fine and goes through both walls, but when the window is moved to the edge of the stud it only applies to the exterior. Also, is there an easier way to move the windows directly up against the studs other than entering exact dimensions? The point to point move doesn't snap to the window, and the dimensions I'm allowed to edit when selecting the window aren't always the ideal ones. C_2160SF_4BR_2.5B_3ST(OG)_8'C_11-25-15.plan
  7. Well, after I did the no room def trick the problem wasn't solved, came here and made the last post, then went back to CA and I was finally able to change the ceiling heights. Maybe the no room def trick works, but I didn't do anything else to fix the problem when it still wasn't letting me change the heights after I tried it.
  8. I've also tried the trick where you change the walls above to "no room definition", I still can't figure it out.
  9. I was able to reset the floor defaults but it didn't fix the issue. When I first tried fixing it using the defaults I only checked room defaults and it wouldn't let me change them because of the same problem.
  10. Actually, it's just the entry room giving me the error message.
  11. I've changed all the heights in every room so they're the same, even in the garage and attic spaces, but I still get the error message when trying to edit first floor heights. C_2160SF_4BR_2.5B_3ST(OG)_8'C_11-25-15.plan
  12. That's it, I didn't realize the spacing was part of the material. Thanks.
  13. I know I can move the studs manually, but is there a way to set a default for exterior walls when auto framing? Every time I change the spacing it only changes interior walls and leaves the exterior stud spacing at 2' on center. I'm creating a double stud wall, so I've tried playing with the "framing" and "double wall" settings in the structure tab, but I don't see any changes being made when I change those settings.
  14. I just had to move the interior walls further apart from each other. The way the tutorial is made it seem like an attic truss couldn't be created if the interior walls weren't on the dotted lines that show a change in ceiling slope, it even says "The loft area must have a flat ceiling."
  15. I've only found answers regarding earlier versions of CA, I'm using X7 and hoping it's possible by now. It says that the ceilings need to be flat in order to build attic trusses but I need to create something similar to the attached picture.
  16. David: How exactly do you use the edit area tool? That seems like it might work but it doesn't do anything but disappear after I make the box and try to edit something. Drawzilla: I'm pretty sure the build framing button just builds the framing inside the roof plane, it doesn't really have anything to do with trusses and slope; unless it restores everything back to default when it builds the framing, but I don't think it does. Unless I find another way, I'm going to build the garage in a separate plan and copy/paste it into the house plan once all the roofs are done.
  17. I'm trying to create attic trusses with heels over a garage, to do that I need to change settings that I can only find when using "build roof" (Roof Height, Trusses check box, and Raise Off Plate/Birdsmouth) How can I change these settings for just above the garage and not my whole building? I can't find a way to use "build roof" on just a section instead of everything.
  18. What exactly did you change with the wall types? And are you talking about the 6" or 4" walls? I tried wall breaks on both to try and fix it but it didn't help, and both of those walls are already custom ones I made. Wall breaks might be the way to go but I think I'm missing something.
  19. I need to have an interior wall between the stem wall and the shower/tub, when I connect the wall to the other interior walls the foundation drops. I've checked defaults and room and wall specs and can't figure it out. Stem wall should be 110". Johnson Lot 43.plan
  20. I tried moving the walls out of position and back again, it fixed a similar problem I had before but it's not working this time. I don't know what the difference is between the backclipped cross section and cross section/elevation, but in the backclipped view I can only see the line causing the issue and can't select it. I'm not sure what to do now.
  21. I can't figure out why this line is here, or what it represents. It only shows up in this view and sometimes while rotating the camera in 3D orthographic. I think it has something to do with where the floors meet, or maybe the lines that show the exterior material don't recognize that it's the same between floors and won't combine into one surface, but I'm not sure why that would happen on this wall and not the others. Johnson Lot 43.plan
  22. Thanks guys, it had something to do with the extra 2 1/2" connecting to the walls that were bare, extending the walls and moving them back seemed to fix it.
  23. I can't figure out why it won't connect. I temporarily fixed the problem by adding the thickness of a stem wall to the length of the wall that has the issue, but after I continued working I noticed it again. Also, if I double click the wall to open the spec box and hit ok without making any changes, the gap changes which side it's on. I have no idea what that means or if it will help when trying to solve the problem. Johnson Lot 43.plan
  24. Never mind, setting the ceiling heights back to defaults fixed it without changing the size of my kneewalls. Thanks guys!
