OK, found a possible workaround to eliminate the faded rectangle. I printed to pdf using a different pdf printer, then opened the plans in acrobat and printed them out of acrobat making sure it was printing 24x36 paper out of acrobat using my go to pdf printer dopdf 10 (acrobat defaults to 8.5 x 11, but will let you print the source size paper).

Download dopdf 10, very small pdf file printer. I have a layout that only prints a blurred rectangle on sheet 1, no polylines anywhere, the shape changes as I move the 2 floorplans around, though they do not overlay each other.
