It will work as you suggest if you specify a ceiling height that is just under the interior peak of the roof. I suspect your ceiling is above the roof.

 It seems strange that Chief doesn't recognize the railing and automatically fill the ceiling above.  The program is very intuitive in most instances. 

How do I close the gap in the ceiling material above the railing walls??

I make the basement level 1 so I can have a separate foundation level.

The attached plan seems to be OK - what is the problem?

Glen, the shed dormer roof plane should be 4 in 12 and leave the main roof plane at 12 in 12.  The shed roof plane is forcing it's pitch on the main roof.  I followed the steps in the tutorial, listed in ( my orginal post) but end up with these results?

Jay, thanks for your reply.  I actually discovered "auto dormers" on my toolbar and placed an auto dormer in the rear roof plane and edited to my specifications.  It was quick and easy.

Will earlier Chief Architect versions 9 & 10 run on Windows 7?

I am running 9.5 on windows xp using a "virtual machine" within my windows 7 operating system.  I also run X6 on windows 7.

 This shouldn't have to be so complicated...

If it was easy we would all be out of a job...   This forum is awesome, thanks to all who contribute!

How does the file get corrupted?

The best stainless steel rendition I have found for SS appliances is in the following directory:

Chief Architect Bonus Catalogs >Kitchen styles >International Contemporary> Materials > Stainless Steel

 

Dig a little deeper in your libraries guys.

 Success !  I do not understand what happened but it has been corrected with the help of CA tech support.

OK, so I have no 2nd floor that I spent several hours working on   I get this message when I open the plan file: "floor 2 missing from plan files".  I am using chief 9.54.  Any ideas on how to retrieve the missing file?

Yes, 9.5.  It was state of the art back when I purchased it.  Haven't used in several years. Guess I am a little rusty.  No 3d editing...  I posted a couple more pictures.  Hoping you guys can help me out.

thanks for the reply.  Cannot seem to get the trim to join... I generated an automatic roof then added the gable over the door using the add gable over door roof tool.
