  1. Here is the system info you were asking about. Here is a new twist... if I click on a plan file it will open Chief and load (just won't do 3d) but... if I click the Chief icon in the start menu, it starts to load the program but stalls, just a blank Chief screen and a blank Welcome to Chief Architect screen, and the blue whirly
  2. I was working on a new set of plans this morning and initiated a perspective full overview. The program would not generate the view. Walked away for 15 minutes. Came back and still had the little blue whirligig and could not access any menus. Had to use the task manager to close the program. Restarted and had the same issue. Tried a different plan and had the same issue. Any suggestions? Re-install?
  3. Thanks Eric, I was having difficulty getting the auto roof returns to generate at the right height. Didn't think it was going to affect the railings though. I drew the returns manually and everything is properly working now. Thanks again!
  4. Plan is attached. Don't judge the design, it is an Amish house. TIA for your help. Lantz 1.plan
  5. I have been working on this plan that has a porch. The porch has an open rail with 6 x 6 posts to a 6 x 16 beam overhead. It is 20' long. I set the newel spacing to 120" and checked "no half-post at wall. Everything worked as I wanted, a post midway, a post at the open corner, no half-post where the railing joined the wall. Later, when I went back to do some revisions I noticed that there were two additional posts added at the end of the rail where it joins the wall. This shows up in plan and in camera views. I double checked the settings, tried changing the newel spacing, un-checked and re-checked the half-post toggle, etc and couldn't get rid of them. Also deleted and re-drew the wall from scratch but they are still there. Screenshots show them at the left end of the wall. This particular shot is with the newel spacing at 280" so there is no mid-post shown. Any thoughts on what might be causing this?
  6. The draw order edit tool fixed it. Somehow I have never seen or used it before. Thanks for the help!
  7. There is probably a simple setting to fix this but I have not been able to find it. When laying out furniture, for instance in a living room, I want to use an area rug along with other furnishings. This works fine in 3D views but in plan view, the area rug covers up the other furnishings. I have not been able to find a way to display it at the back of group or to make it transparent in plan view. I thought maybe it had to do with the distance from the floor to the bottom of the various objects but that doesn't seem to make any difference either. This occurs both with the area rugs in the Chief Core catalog and with others from manufacturer catalogs. Any idea what to do to get it to display properly in plan?
