  1. Thanks guys. I have put it on it's own layer and turned it off. Then it popped up again when I was doing the basement, so it just made me wonder why or how to prevent it. Thanks again
  2. I'm trying to draw an interior courtyard and every time I connect the courtyard walls CA automatically generates an invisible wall between the courtyard and an exterior wall. It then won't let me delete it. Does anyone know what is causing this? Or how I can prevent it? Attached is a simple box with a box courtyard inside it. You'll notice the invisible wall. courtyard.plan
  3. Probably a beginner question, but what is the best way to show sub-fascia in a 2d roof framing plan. I typically build my roofs manually using roof planes. I have the build roof set to trusses. Then when I go to build framing automatically it always builds the roof framing out of rafters and not trusses. I like how it shows the sub-fascia though. If I draw a truss manually and copy it across the roof, I can't figure out how to show the sub-fascia. Right now I've been building the framing automatically, then deleting everything except the sub-fascia. Then drawing in the trusses. What am I missing?
  4. Thanks guys. I was able to look in a cross section and select the wall and just drag it down. Problem solved, but I'm not sure what caused it.
  5. I've got a problem that I've been wasting way too much time on. If I draw a deck onto the existing house it shows up fine in the elevation as long as I keep the edge of deck away from the room on the left of the plan. In the first plan it is 6" away from that room. If I move it closer like in the 3rd plan, it removes the exterior wall from railing height down. I've tried moving the edge of deck all over the place and if it is within 6" of that room the same thing happens. I can extend the deck past that room and the exterior of that room stays the same, but I lose the bottom half of wall in the room on the right. The floor and ceiling heights are different in each room and I'm thinking that has something to do with it, but not sure. Anybody have suggestions? 19' DECK FLOOR.pdf 19' DECK ELEVATION.pdf 20' DECK ELEVATION.pdf
  6. I am trying to compile a list of materials sort of like a check list for clients to go through. So under interior trim I would have sizes and all the materials to be used. Then cabinets, then siding and so on. Is there a way to print out the materials library or any way to help make this easier? Thanks for any suggestions.
  7. Now that I mulled the windows my dimensions on the floor plan won't dimension each separate window. Even unchecking the "Single Wall Hole" doesn't help. Any suggestions on this?
  8. Thanks guys. That is exactly what I was looking for.
  9. That works for elevations, but on my roof and floor framing plans I have windows display turned off so you can see just the opening. With the windows mulled it shows one big opening instead of the six inches of framing in between. Is there a way to fix this?
  10. I was wondering what the quickest way to draw exterior window casing was. I have messed with the casing size, sill, and lintel. My problem is that the windows are getting a 2x4 casing. But most of my windows are within 6" of each other. Chief draws the side casing piece at 3 1/2" for each window and they overlap each other looking terrible. Is there a way to just change one side or the other of a window's casing? That way I could have one solid piece in between the windows and still have a 3 1/2" piece on the outside edge.
  11. Thank you very much guys. I'll look into that.
  12. I've switched to Chief from using AutoCAD for a very long time and I'm just not getting it. So, I've gone through and designed this 6,000 sq ft house and have all the foundation, floor framing and roof framing done. My question is basically, What is the best way to send the different plans to layout? What I did. Went to foundation level. Turned off all the floor framing members. Dimensioned the foundation walls and footings in the crawl and put any notes I needed on it. Then I sent it to layout. Perfect. Looks Good. Next I want to do a floor framing plan. If I turn off dimensions and turn on all the floor framing members it looks good. Next I would like to dimension all the beams and bearing points, but I can't because if so all the dimensions for the foundation show up. Next I made a cad detail from view of the floor framing plan. Here I'm having a very tough time dimensioning because it snaps to every little dot in the foundation wall. So what am I missing? What's the best way to go about dimensioning, putting notes on plan, and sending it to layout? Any help is appreciated. I'm very frustrated at this point.
  13. Quick question. Using Chief Architect x7 and I set the ceiling height for rooms then build the roof. Next, I need to change height of different roofs just to see what looks best. If I go into the different rooms and change the ceiling height, It doesn't seem to update the roof and raise or lower it. Do I need to re draw the roof planes each time I change the ceiling height?
  14. Thanks so much. I found it and it worked great. That solves a lot of frustration.
