  1. G-M3.plan I have an issue that I'm not sure how it happened. The drywall does not go up to the ceiling in the kitchen, hall, entry (all one room) and in the lower level the top plates don't seem to be the same and the wall above the door extends up. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Bret

Its definitely because your using a room camera, another hint is that the cathedral ceiling doesn't show up either.  If you want all these things on your section, then use the cross section and narrow the view  with "clip to sides" in the cross section dbx.

Dermot,  I know we've suggested a fix to this in the past.  Is this a possibility of getting corrected on future releases?  A wall camera should at least show the correct ceiling, and not be based on ceiling height set in the room def dbx

Agreed. I'll use the cross-section view for that room. Mainly wanting if for window information/detail and was surprised that the window/fireplace didn't show in the wall camera but does show up in the cross-section. It just seems odd that it doesn't work similarly in both views.

    Thanks everyone.

  3. Ok. I figured it out thanks to the input here. I tried changing the Layout scale from 1 = 1 to 1/4 = 1 and that wasn't a good move messed up several things. I then went to the plan mode Drawing Sheet Setup and there it was 1/4" - 2. Switched the 2 to 1 and now works fine.  (Not sure what I did that it set to 2)

    Thank you!

The text works fine in a default template but the scale still shows at 2'. I check with another plan and it shows at 1'. Somewhere along the line I must have switched something and it's stuck there.

  5. Hello,

I've been a long time user of Chief Architect but there some things I don't know, that I should, like the dashed line in the picture. I assume it's a bearing line? I can't seem to find out how to turn it on or off as I don't want it showing in the roof layout.

    Thank you.

  6. A couple of questions regarding layout.

    1) In the image below, every time I insert text, the text box shows large, extremely large. Not sure how to change that.

    2) Anytime I send a plan to the layout when sending it, the scale is always 1/4 = 2 so I always have to change the 2 to 1 for it to scale as I need it. How do I default the 2 to a 1? Tried to figure it out and couldn't.

  7. David,

Thank you so much! Huge help! Was pulling my hair out on that fireplace wall. I agree with your roof ridgeline (additional valley) comment and the reason why it is that way is that I pulled the wall to the right of the front door further forward than the existing home wall to accommodate the staircase to the attic/room above the garage.

I've watched several of your videos on youtube in the past. Thank you again for your help and response.

Now to see if I can get the foundation heights fixed without pulling more hair out!

  8. Hello,

Not sure if I'm in the correct area for this question but I am having several issues on a plan where I have an existing home adding an addition. (Plan Attached)

Problem 1) The existing house foundation wall height is 85" with 2X10 floor joists. The addition's foundation is 96" wall height with 18" Floor Truss. The plan is for the main floor to match in height. That means the addition foundation will sit lower than the existing. My problem is when I click on the foundation the heights aren't doing what I need them to do so the foundation plans in elevation view don't reflect the correct heights. Pulling my hair out over here as I'm not sure what's happening. In the elevation view the additon foundation shows 9'4 3/8 which should only show 8' or 96". The existing house has the same issue. If I move a room/walls sometimes the heights are affected. Super frustrating. I'm sure it's my error but I'm stumped.

Problem 2) I have a fireplace in the addition/great room where the space the fireplace sits in will only be 60" tall. In the elevation view there is a side wall that extends up, a window above the fireplace doesn't show....ugh... I've watched tutorials but it's not working as it should. The vault/ceiling plane is a bit goofy in there.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

  9. The 3D is a reflection of the model, and if it looks wrong, then the underlying model might need some work.

The first floor rough ceiling default is 113 5/8". Consider changing it to be correct, then using Reset to Defaults to set all floors to the default heights.

    attachicon.gifFergie 1.jpg

I'll look at that. Thank you.  That actually makes sense to extend those walls at the stairs. Thanks!

  10. I don't get that when I open the Room Specification dbx from the plan you uploaded:

    attachicon.gifdbx.PNG

    Interesting.

That is interesting. I wonder if it's how your personal defaults are set up? You're double clicking in the room where you open the room spec? What interesting is where the ceiling raises in the kitchen elevation is actually attic space and over the dining area the height is correct. Should be 9'1 1/8". Very interesting.

  11. I noticed many small problems that all add up. Suggest redrawing the plan working as you go to get the structure correct.

Resist adding all the extras -- trim, columns, cabinets etc until the model is right.

This is my second redraw. However, when your customer wants a few changes, and those changes affect the structure and in doing so it creates other issues, it's not feasible to redraw. The 3D renderings aren't fully needed, just a luxury.  So it's not a matter of "resisting" to add the extras.

I came from Chief 10 about a year and half ago and while CA has added many nice new features, I find it to be more a pain in the rear especially when it comes to changes.  Also when it comes to using fixtures and scaling, not all of them do. Not cool.

  12. Outline the walls above with invisible walls. This will create a room within the kitchen. Open up the room spec dbx for that newly created room and then drop down the ceiling height. Once the ceiling height is corrected, you can delete those invisible walls. See below:

I will do that. Thank you!

  13. I opened the room spec and this is what I get

    post-5904-0-37769600-1468880591_thumb.jpg

I'll probably do the invisible wall method.

Regarding the upper floor, I've looked at that several times and do not see what I am doing incorrectly.

    Thanks for your help.

  14. Hello everyone. I'm having ceiling issues in my kitchen area which was fine previous to me adding a wall at my staircase (next to the garage) that seemed to mess with my ceilings.  I have since removed it but the issue remains and the structure tab will not allow me to change heights in the kitchen.

See notes on the next picture.

The note on the bottom right is referring to where the stairs go up - ceiling right there.

One other last question. The garage foundation height is equal to the top of my 18" floor truss. I've tried several thing but unable to get the foundation height the same of the house.

Thanks in advance for the input/direction.

  15. You have some invisible walls below the observation room that can be removed.

As for the walkout. Those walls should really be pony walls so that the footings can be set below the frost line...if you have one.

How did you get the foundation on the pony wall to drop? I tried to do that and it didn't work as it was working withing the height of the room?
