Hello! I am just finishing my first project on CA x17! I am on my third or fourth rendition of the plan and have learned a lot about the program in the process. However, there is one thing I can't seem to find very clear directions and advice on, and that is version control. So as I understand it, each individual page of a layout file can be pulling one or more objects from one or more plan sets and displaying them. Simple enough. What I am needing advice on as far as the layout goes is this. Often times when I get to a point in my project that I want to make a big change that I think is 'risky' or might break something, I will create a copy of my current plan and start working in that one as a kind of sandbox for the project. This has been very helpful at times (especially in this learning phase) because it has stopped me from completely ruining my project or allows me to make two different versions to a solution in order to show both to my boss. The only problem with copying my plan and then working in the copy is that if I have success doing that then the next thing I need to do is update my layout file with every object one every page that is affected by the change I made on the copied plan set. There must be a more efficient way to create a sandbox environment where I can play with my plan without being fully commited to it, and be able to move on with that new copied plan as the updated one if I am succesful in my change. Could I maybe make a copy of my plan just in case my change goes terribly wrong, but then work in the original? If I did that would there be a really easy (besides the back button) way I could go back to my original plan if it went wrong? That way I could stay attached to my layout file without constantly having to update it after major changes. I am just wondering what other peoples tricks, tips, procedures, and experiences are with organization of these files and objects. Thanks!

The wall framing is not terminating correctly against the roof or the intersecting wall. Even when I dimension the wall to a specific length (e.g., 14'), the framing engine is auto-adjusting the length based on its internal corner/junction logic (likely trying to miter or "bury" the stud), which results in a wall that is either too long or too short. I do not want the wall to "join" or enter the corner post of the perpendicular wall; I just need it to terminate cleanly at the exterior face. Hello everyone. I am working on my very first design on Chief Architect x17. I am a construction worker and computer science student making the transition into more design and overhead roles at the company I work for. I have recently started my first Chief Architect design and have hit a wall I can't seem to figure out. I have made a lot of progress on the design. I have the room specifications mostly correct and think I have done most of it by the book. However the design is small but somewhat complicated for my inexperience on the software. The design features a loft which is made possible by a high shed roof. Obviously this makes the room specifications on the 2nd level kind of complicated because on the lower level, some rooms have flat ceilings, while some are open up to the roofplane with a high ceiling. I have tried everything to close in the exterior wall on my shed to shed roof transition. I have had some sucess adding a roof(or maybe floor) beam to support the framing. However I still can't get siding. I want to get this part done so i can finally move on to learning some other stuff in the program like setting the cabinets and tub and stuff like that. I will just attach the plan file so anyone can view it. I would be extremely grateful for any and all advice for sorting this mess out a little bit. I attached one copy of the plan with the added beam and one without the added beam. I added the beam manually but I think it is in a good place because even when I auto rebuild framing it keeps my beam there. Hi everyone, I am a lifelong construction worker turned computer science student who is working on their first design on Chief Architect x17. I have hit a wall with some complex roof-to-wall framing intersections. I have a loft area where a lower roof plane intersects a main exterior wall. The house is a small ~500sf house. The design is a little bit different than most houses that size. It is essentially 34' by 14' box with one level. However one end of the house features a loft, made possible by a shed roof up above. I will include some pictures. I have finally gotten the upper side of the higher shed roof to frame the attic wall but it still wont add siding. I think I am running into trouble with room definitions and still have some more experimenting to do. Either way. My boss kind of wants it wrapped up. Not only that, but he would like me to find a reliable person or group we could send either full designs, or maybe basic designs to and have them finished. If you have experience with complex custom framing and are available please reach out. This is my first post on here as well.
