Hello, If I'm trying to get an accurate indication of how much material 'BRICK' I'm using in my plan, would the correct path be "Create Custom Schedule"? Then is there any assistance you can offer on how to arrive at takeoffs? Its not super clear on which columns to add to arrive at the correct data population. Thanks in advance for your help. NEW USER - Seeking advice: Best Mac Setup (2026)
CA_Russell replied to CA_Russell's topic in General Q & A
I have an Apple MacBook M3 Pro, with 1TB HDD and 36GB of integrated RAM. Its stupid fast, ask Rene, he made a video of it. Anything newer would be insane, IMHO! -
For additional data, this is a 8:12 roof on a 10' plate.

All, I'm wondering what should be the best method for using the AutoRoof function to ensure that the roof is sitting at the desired height. It would seem out of the box, there are some weird functions that are happening where the roof is landing higher than anticipated. For clarification, I'm not a roofer, but I do understand that when viewed from a cross-section that the birdsmouth should land over the top plate. And why is the value "Raise / Lower All Roof Planes" arriving at '1' 3 5/8' for an AutoRoof? Where is this value being pulled from?? - Ryan

All, We offset the porch walls 1'6" out from the interior walls to add emphasis, and in doing such the 'AUTO-BUILD ROOF' function no longer creates the gable extension back to the main roofline, instead its wrapping around the smaller projection that was added. I have modified the existing room heights to all be 15' and have tried to break wall lines, accordingly. But I'm, still unable to get the roof to look correct. Really hoping to not have to add / learn how to add knee-walls. Any assistance or support is greatly appreciated. Curious, have you tried removal and reinstall? It could be possible that the installation became corrupted, look for a repair? -

I took the plunge and purchased both ChiefExpert and a Logitech MX Master 4 wireless mouse. Pleased with the purchase of both! -
All, I'm in search of what works best for the everyday workflow. Current setup: MacBook Pro M3 Pro chip w/ 36GB integrated ram, 1 TB ssd. CA x17 Premier on MacOS Tahoe 26.3 Apple Magic Mouse I would like current details as to what your using for pointer, and trackpad, if any aids. There seems to be a great deal of appreciation for 3D Connexion and Logitech. What do you like? Why? What works? Are there any resource(s) / app(s) outside of CA that you incorporate? Pro's & Con's would be helpful in purchasing decisions. I would like to know what works and how to augment my current workflow for speed, etc. Thanks, Ryan Russell P.S.: Converted from Nemetschek Vectorworks Architect 2026 VW Architect used Renderworks & Twinmotion for rendering.

All, I can build a standard residential plan set to default height: 109 1/8". Then I can adjust the room heights via ROOM OBJECTS. What I cannot seem to understand is if I have a common room height, say 10'... .. then I need to adjust outside plate heights for added interest / design elements to 14 ft. How is this effectively achieved without breaking the AUTO tools? Ryan Russell

All, Curious are the "Default Settings" project based or application based? I'm wondering if I modify them, and make a mistake... what is my recovery option. Also, if it's per Project, then I could just delete the Project from the working folder. Sincerely, Ryan Russell

All, Hello, I just switched to CA from VW this week, and love it. The SPEED and toolset is amazing! Currently using CA x17 on a Mac. I'm curious... "Is there a way to build a layout using "hand drawn" methods (4"/ 6" walls), while also incorporating NOMINAL sized materials that I can use for PRODUCTION work?" I'm trying to serve two masters at once and may very well be swimming against the tide, but I wanted to ASK the EXPERTS. Thanks in advance for your time! Sincerely, Ryan Russell
