  1. Excellent. I had tried that, but hadn't used the no room definition setting so it wasn't working. I had run into the problem with the railing breaking back downward before as well so this info is really helpful. Thank you very much for taking the time to download and view my plan.  I had actually worked around the problem by copying and pasting the stairway to the 2nd floor and making it sligjlty less wide than the original on the 1st flloor, but this is a better solution than having two stairways accupying the same place. Still wish you could offset the railing along with the newells.

  2. Thanks for the suggestions, but  Chris's solution doesn't really work. Manually drawing the railimg won't work because there is already an interior wall where the railing needs to be. (It's under the stairs). I tried a pony wall with the lower 1/2 as an interiuor wall and the upper 1/2 as a railing but that didn't work either. I can't move the landing in or out because the platform under the landing won't align with the interior wall under the steps then. I've been using Cheif for at least 12 years and this has always been a problem. The plan is available for download at the link I posted above.

  3. Actually discovered that be redefining wall types to include all layers in Main Layer the intersections look better and the "edit wall layers intersections" tool seem to be more functional.  I'm guessing there will be some unwanted side effects.

  4. Thanks everyone. Unfortunately these go on closets where I had normal bypass doors. No room for the rails to extend past the opening more than a few inches. Will probably have top draw something. As popular as these seem to be getting I was surprised I didn't find one already drawn on Sketchup. Once the client sees it on DIY I'm doomed.

  5. Just wondering if anyone has an idea of how one might draw a Bipass Barn Door in CA. (X13) Checked Sketchup 3D warehouse and didn't find anything there. Seems like Barn doors are the rage. I personally think they suck :)

  6. So I just added Signature with my computer specs.

Updated Graphics Card with Latest Driver from NVIDIA

Checked Shader Model with Direct X Caps viewer which indicates 6.5

    Updated Windows.

Still no graphics in X13 so back to wondering if a graphics card update is appropriate.

  7. Just downloaded x13 and found current video card isn't up to snuff.

Not really wanting to buy a new desktop just yet.

    Attaching specs for existing desktop.

Anyone have a recommendations for a new graphics card.

Hoping not to spend a boatload of money if possible since I will probably get a new machine with in the next year or so.

    Thanks , Chuck

  8. Strange issue. In a certain area of my kitchen plan ceiling lights disappear in camera view but not on floorplan. I can drag a light into that area and it disappears, As you can see in attached .jpgs there is a ceiling fan and pedant light that show up on floor plan and not in the camera view. In fact , as noted above, if I drag one of the pendant lights that do show up just outside of that area into that area they disappear from camera view. Can't find any hidden objects that may be obscuring them. Offset from ceiling is set to 0. No soffit in that area. They don't appear on floor above or below. Closed and reopened program, no change. Using X12. Been using Chief for 13 years and haven't run across this before.  Any ideas.

  9. Thanks for advice. Eventually solved problem using wall specification/materials. Even though the lower exterior wall indicated  "no change" I was able to select it and change the material to the appropriate material in the plans material list.

  10. Anybody have any idea whats going on with the intersections of these deck railings and the exterior walls? Cant get the original default siding to go away at the intersection. Have tried editing default material and making adjustments with the wall layer extents tool.

  11. Hmm. Three Porches in a row. Separated by walls. All three have "No Change" in the room definition dialogue "materials" specification, but only having trouble changing  wall material on one particular wall. Not actually sure how wall materials get set to "No Change" in the room definition dialogue.

  12. Anyone know why exterior material on a wall would be set to "No Change" ?  Every time I try to change it it reverts back to default material. Have deleted it, redrawn it Tried different wall types, but this particular wall won't let me change exterior material.

  13. Larry,

I found an invisible wall inside your kitchen at the bench location. deleted that wall and no more orange wall outside.

The wall type was interior white fill.

As for the framing of the deck. I would use a backup file to copy, paste in place.

I always make sure once the deck is closed into a room, to open dbx and check (keep framing after deck is deleted.) then uncheck the auto feature.

That way my custom adjustments to framing, posts, and footings are kept.

Hi Larry,. I also always check keep deck framing and uncheck auto rebuild deck framing, but when I change a deck room from Deck to Unspecified all my deck framing still disappears :( In my current situation I have custom deck framing under a 3 season room and want to change the room to unspecified so my electrical outlets don't show up as weather proof. Have you run into this problem ?  Chuck MTL Homes

  14. Thanks Gawdzira. I'll mess with it this evening. Been using CA for 8 years or so (self taught) and obviously don't visit the forum much. Have encountered this problem a couple of times before and managed to work around it by messing  with roof framing settings, but since building has picked up and I'm really busy these days thought I'd check to see if anyone had other ideas before I spent too much time on it. It would be nice to be able to draw it the way its going to be built with both rafters landing on 97 1/8 inch top plates 9 1/4 inch rafters on the 10:12 pitch and 5 1/2 inch rafters on the 3:12 pitch.  If I come up with any other solutions I will be sure to post them on this thread.
