You should make it a habit to always open the Layout Box dialogue box to ensure that the right annotation set is being used.

It mysteriously switches sometimes to “using active defaults”. This is because you may have inadvertently messed around with layers or annotations while in the plan view.

Which is why we should have an “apply” or “update” button in the layer set so you can temporarily switch layers on and off without affecting your layer set permanently.

Here re is a video from Chief...

I'm embarrassed to admit that I have no idea what annotation sets are, let alone what the correct one is to use. It's not something I use.

I'll take a look at some training videos about them.

Just do what I said, STEP BY STEP.  Select your layout box, copy it, go to the next page in your layout, paste hold position.  Now open the layout box and change to the desired plan view.  If necessary you can optionally change the layer set using the Layout Box Layers tool.  I don’t think there could possibly be a faster method.

Ahh. I get it now. I'd never touched those settings before in the Layout Box Specification area. Very nice indeed.

    Thank you for your assistance.

  3. I found an old thread on the original Chief Talk forums that had a pretty good workaround:

Here is how I do it. Draw a cad box to represent Layout box in plan view on the floor with the largest extents. Make sure nothing is showing outside the box, like cameras, etc. This will determine the boundaries of the layout box. Copy/hold position the box to the other floor levels. Now you have a reference that will generate identical sized layout boxes between the floors. Place a temprorary point on the layout sheet where you want the upper left corner. Send to layout with 'snap to active cad point' checked. Go to next layout sheet, cad point will still be there. Send next floor to layout with 'snap to active cad point checked', and so on. They will be perfectly lined up.

The only thing about this that didn't work for me is the send to layout with the snap to active cad point checked. So I simply made my original cad box the same size as my layout sheet and did a point move on the layout box to the layout sheet corner.

Other Way would be to add a Point to the Layout Template (Page 0 or Input Point on specific Pages) and then use Point to Point move for a certain Corner etc.

I found an old post that mentioned this method as well, but the problem is that you can't snap to a wall edge for example when in Layout and point move it to a CAD point for alignment. So that doesn't work for me....or I'm doing something wrong.

  5. Is there a way to align a foundation, first floor, second floor, etc. on layout pages? Each floor has its own page. I send the floor to layout view, but the floor plans are never in the same position on the page. I have to have them in the same place on the page for each level of the home, but can't figure out how to align them from page to page.

    Thanks

  6. Does anyone have the scale bar library item for 1/4" = 1' and 1/2" = 1'?

I'm having a helluva time trying to figure out this simple little thing on my own. Maybe there is a tutorial out there about how to manipulate the "full scale" library symbol to make it into whatever you need?

    Thanks for helping.

Still not certain what is happening here I have posted a standard view and a PBR rendering, when I switch to PBR rendering this is what I get? ANy help would be great as I am thinking it is in settings that is causing this ? ANy help with setting would be great as I did not find the tutorials very helpful on this issue

Some kind of bug I guess. I have it too. If the camera is saved you can close it and reopen it and it should be back to normal again.

Open the ceiling plane and on the Structure panel, uncheck Use Room Ceiling Finish.

    Thank you.

I think they need to rename that feature to "remove annoying wall line cutouts in the ceiling plane".

  9. I'm having trouble getting this bathroom ceiling looking right. I have two ceiling planes that come together just fine, but I have two small "rooms" inside of a larger bathroom. The walls of those two rooms aren't going to go all the way to the ceiling, but they are still cutting holes in my ceiling plane.

So I need to either stop that behavior or create new polyline solids to replace the ceiling planes, but I can't figure out how to duplicate the angle of the ceiling plane with the polyline solids.

    Frustrating.

See attached photos. Thanks for the help.

  10. Is there any way to upload a 360 panoramic photo after Chief has been closed? I've produced several 360 panos and saved them to disk. Now I'd like to upload them, but can't figure out how.

    Thanks

  11. So I'm new to X9 and I really haven't looked into any of the new features, but I just found one that's kinda cool, 360-degree panoramas. I just tried my first one, but after uploading and looking using my computer I see it looks very blurry. Maybe it's my settings? I tried a simple one: 2048 x 1024 for 15 minutes. That got me 84 passes. The wonky image you get on your screen before the upload looks pretty crisp. But the 360 not so much.

    Here is the 360.

  12. I just jumped from X7 to X9. In X7 there was a setting regarding letting Chief still be usable while there where ray tracing going on in the background. The defaults in X9 are clearly to use all of the CPU and it really makes using the rest of Chief difficult. Where are those settings now? I need to save some horsepower for other things.

    Thanks

Edit that material's properties.  Currently the transparency is 12%.

ps: I prefer to assign the color in the cabinet dbx rather than using the "Paint" tool.  It provides much better results

That's interesting. I've never done it that way. What is the advantage? While I haven't looked side by side, my color in the dbx box shows the correct color that I painted it with.
