This sounds like BS.
All the software I use the escape key kills the current command.
I find this a very annoying feature that the Esc Key does not function in this manner.
I have been using CAD software for 35 years and I have found the Esc key always kills the current command.
I have been using Chief Arch for about 2 months and it really is an issue when I want to stop dimensioning and hit escape only to find I'm still in the command and the space bar is the only manner in which to kill the command.
