Thanks for the tip Shane! I wasn't familiar with that tool yet. Unfortunately it didn't work but now I do know about its usefulness. I've never used 3D solids either but they worked like a charm. I'm going to name them healing solids as well Michael that does seem fitting. Thx!

I am using invisible walls to achieve the roof extensions and lean to's on this build. The gap looks to be from the invisible front wall intersection. What is the best practice for filling in this gap in these walls? I resorted to creating a custom wall to use and manually edited the wall from the floor up. Is there is a way to do this with auto generated walls or is it a manual job that I haven't figured out yet? Love.plan.zip
  3. I did. Although my issue is niche I should add here that it was an issue with my roof trusses. The building method calls for the gable trusses to be placed where Chief considers it outside of the wall. I've always accomplished work arounds for this but never been unable to generate 3d views. Support confirmed that it was a bug and passed it on to devs.
  4. I have an M2 Max Studio 64gb RAM and a 15" M2 MacBook Air 24gb RAM that I have run x15, 16 and now 17 on. In my experience both machines run complex plan and layout files with ease for me. If CA is the most demanding software you plan on running I would consider the 15" M4 Air and increase the RAM to 24gb and save a few hundred bucks if that means anything to you. You will appreciate the larger screen real estate when not connected to a monitor and also the portability of the Air. The only difference I notice between the two machines is if it takes the M2 Max 5 seconds to export a layout to pdf, it takes the M2 10 seconds so I'm sure the base M4 is at least somewhere in between there. I have also used CA with a MacBook M4 Pro 24gb RAM with zero discernable difference. So as long as your workflow doesn't have you exporting files hundreds of times per day any of the new Mac devices should work great for CA.
  5. In the same exact session that they were previously working. Been hitting quite a few bugs with 17 but I guess it should be expected. I have tried all 3D tools with this same result.
  6. Dang. My efforts were futile I guess. I would still be digging. Thanks a lot!
  7. I am trying to create a gable in the lower roof as pictured. I have tried using the gable/roofline tool to draw the width but it comes in at 2:12. When I select the roof planes and change the pitch it switches off auto roofs and leaves big holes in my existing roof. When I try manually drawing them I'm left with holes as well. I do understand that roofs are generated by the wall settings underneath so I toyed with those as well to no avail. I suspect I'm having trouble because I'm trying to connect to two different roof pitches. I have reviewed any relevant video resources in support and user sections but can't find anything exactly like what I'm attempting. Does anyone have any advice to achieve this? 8. Is there a way to set a wall type to build like this? This would be the exterior wall of a post frame home. I am familiar with setting up the posts as the "studs" in the main layer of the wall as well as the 2x6 horizontal girts and siding on the exterior layer. But if my posts are being used as studs in my wall type definition is it possible to also have 2x6 studs in between? Would the best practice be to auto build the 2x6 framing and then go back and manually place the posts? That would be tedious but if it is the only way..... If there is another way to achieve this I would be grateful to know. Thanks for any help!Residential Post Frame Template.plan
  9. We use saddle hangers for the purlins Gene. So those 2x6 purlins are on edge. And yes 2x6 girts across the poles. Of course I could manually move everything into place but I get the idea with this software that that is a last resort. And I do not have a full understanding of the "build" function yet, so if I need to "rebuild" a wall or roof I lose those manual changes if I understand it so far. Edit: Just discovered "Retain Manually Drawn Roof Planes" so my understanding is improving. Nice tip Rob thx!
  10. Yes Rob that's correct. With your help I was able to get the fascia visible. However, in the process, I lost my purlins and eave board and can't figure the settings to bring them back. Also, I would like to get that truss to be flush with the outside of the pole so that the eave board (when I bring it back) can be flush against the pole as well, bringing it all to the same plane as the wall girts. I know that I can do that manually to each truss and eave board but I was hoping there was a way to incorporate it into auto roof. As I said before this is my first full model and I'm pouring all of my time into learning this software so thank you for help. Here is my most recent plan file as well. Catchings_shop_fp2.plan
  11. This is a post frame building I am attempting to model. It is my first attempt at a complete model and the roof building has been the first aspect of CA that hasn't "clicked". I have my trusses set where I want them as well as my posts. When finally building the roof I run into a couple of parts that are stumping me.... 1. I would like to be able to have no overhang on this roof (that is how we build them). I went to the roof defaults and set both of the overhang values to "0" and they defaulted back to .25". This was ok at the time but when I create a Full Overview the fascia is missing. So I went back to my default roof settings and found that 3" was the minimum value on the overhangs to make the fascia appear in the Perspective Full Overview. I accepted this and moved on to framing the roof and ran into another stump. I am assuming that by accepting the 3" minimum overhang my trusses are sticking out past my poles and my subfascia is being held off of the pole as well. I could have almost lived with the .25" minimum value but I can't even see it in my model. Can we even achieve what I am after in this situation? This structure will also have a 12 ft roof extension off of the front as well as full length 12 ft lean to's on the sides. This is my sketchup sketch. The doors are different now but this is the general idea. It may be because of my experience with sketchup buy in Chief I started with the main structure first. Should I be building this main roof system differently in CA in order to add these lean to's and roof extension? Thank you so much for any pointers you can provide. Catchings_shop_fp2.plan
  12. I am trying to frame this post frame building and when placing the gable end trusses I run into an issue. I would like for the truss to be attached to the outside of the poles on the same plane as the the wall girts in the attached image. When moving it to the appropriate position I get this error message. BuildTruss.cpp(197): Warning #272003066 "Roof and ceiling planes cannot be found or they are too close together, so cannot make truss." 08/02/2023 11:59:24 AM Build: 25.3.0.77 Windows 64-bit Can anyone tell me why this is happening and what I can do to remedy it? Also tried uploading the plan file but failed due to error code 200?
  13. mthd 97 thanks that info should help me understand how the software actually works. And thanks to you Gary for taking the time to edit the plan file. This way I can compare it side by side the original to see the proper settings and learn faster. And I'm using x15. I'll update my profile now thanks.
  14. I have used HD for simple floor plan drawings but just took the plunge on premier in an effort to make it the only thing in my workflow. I am attaching an image I drew in sketchup as a visual. As of right now my workflow includes sketchup for elevations because my chief skills in that area are lacking to say the least. I have been trying to achieve these roof planes for the last couple of days. I have spent several hours watching tutorials but I'm missing something. I have mainly attempted to manually build them because I'm not getting the auto build right. Could someone perhaps link me to any resources that address my particular need. And another much simpler question. How can I include the library browser into the same tab structure as the project browser and active layer display options. I am using it in its own window which is okay but I've seen tutorials where the instructors had a tab next to the project browser and layer display options. Thanks for any help. This is my first post so if any additional info is needed let me know.Wrap around lean to.pdf FP1.zip
