  1. Does anyone know if it's possible to turn off the "exterior wall surface", referring to the part of a wall that covers the edge of the floor that it sits on?
  2. You already can. No plugin needed. These are Chief Image exports
  3. Hello Chief pros. Quick question, I'm using the rail function "Post to Beam" which is awesome, but I can't find the setting (if it exists) to NOT have the newels at the stair go to the beam. Is there a setting somewhere that I'm missing? Image attached.
  4. About 6 months ago, I discovered drawings sheet setup (File>Print>Drawing Sheet Setup) which is extremely helpful to see how line weights and line type scale will appear. However, I thought that the Drawing Sheet Setup was linked and saved to the view. In fact, it says that it is in the Help files. However, it appears that it's global across all views in the file. Perhaps I'm missing something. Can anyone let me know if there is a setting somewhere that allows to be tied and saved to the view? I did find a work around. If I have the layout file open and then I open the view from the sheet layout, then chief does change the scale in the drawing sheet setup to the scale that is set in the layout. However, it would be nice, if we didn't have to open the view from the sheet in order for the line weights and line type scales to look correct regardless. here's a screencapture video if this is confusing. https://capture.dropbox.com/fkCEVWdrWvvBZGN4
  5. cool thanks, I know about reference display, but that may be reactive, whereas, making sure that things are on the right floor, will help keep things clean. thanks for your help. Developing a mechanical plan using the actual model items... it's working out pretty nicely!
  6. Does anyone know if it's possible to show an object on a different floor without moving the object? Case in point: I'm modelling some ductwork, including the fittings and the ducts. The fittings are symbols and the ducts are 3d polylines and extruded primitives. some of the parts are not showing up on one floor, but they do show up on another (in plan view) Kind of like how a roof, in plan view will on ly show up on one floor. It's it possible to designate which floor these items show up on? I know roofs have a "show on floor above" and "show on floor below" icons, but I don't see an icon to do this for symbols, primitives or 3d molding polylines. I've tried cutting and pasting them on a different floor using Hold Position, but it also moves them up. So, the only way (questionable as to whetehr it's worth it in this case) is to cut and paste them, then move them down to their actual position. I think this must be the only way but wanted to throw it out there as well.
  7. Thanks Steve, I've booked some time with you so we can get this worked out! thanks, Jacob
  8. Thanks Steve, I really appreciate your thoughts. Another question on railings: This project is a commercial apartment building and the bottom of the railing will need to extend 12" + the tread width (which is 11") so it will need to extend 23" beyond the first nosing. I see the check box for the handrail extension, but it doesn't seem to work with this railing. Any ideas? 2680.plan
  9. Somehow in the deck that I created, it did extend the material beyond and covered the deck edge. Not sure why, but I redrew it and it didn't do it anymore. Not sure why, but thank you for your help. Decks seems to be a little fiddly.. I'll get it in time.
  10. Does anyone know how to control the fascia that is automatically created at the floor just below a railing? I'd like to just turn this off for this deck, if possible and I can't seem to find the option to do so.
  11. Great thoughts and ideas. I'll try and wrap my head around Rene's last suggestion. It sure would be nice if CA considered adding a field to certain items that allowed us to select the floors that the items should be visible on. Is it worth submitting a feature request for this?
  12. Hello Chief family, Is it possible to have an item that spans multiple floors show up on all floors in which it passes? The most common example I have come across is continuous posts. Plan attached, this is a work in progress so please go easy. thanks, Jacob 2680.plan
  13. Thanks to both of you! I will try the ref sets to see how that works, and the invisible walls in approach works too, but it's good to have options. This does seem like a bug, I'm not sure what the logic for not showing stairs on one floor would be. Architectural drafting conventions would have us show the stair. Not sure it's worth sending to Chiefs as a development request. For all intents and purposes, mark this one as solved!
