  1. Hi all, I am currently designing a home, and the owner would like a barrel vault ceiling in the main entry hallway which would require structure like the attached picture. I have watched a lot of videos on the website, but most of them only deal with this sort of feature in a room with the attic above. Each time I try to find a work around for this, as soon as I go into the structure for the room and remove flat ceiling I get a message that the room above must be open below. That is not possible as there is another hallway above. I have tried every option I have been able to think of, but just can't seem to find the correct way to do this type of ceiling. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Roy
  2. Hi Everyone, I recently moved to Lake Chapala Mexico, and I would like to start expanding my portfolio to include some designs for the area so that when I have my full residency I can start working with local builders. The main issue I am having is that the local builders seem to use all sorts of different concrete blocks for exterior and interior walls. I am curious if there is a standard that anyone using Chief may have already created. Footers also seem to be based on the whim of the builder, but perhaps that is just a misunderstanding on my part. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Roy
  3. Recently I have had an issue with two survey companies refusing to provide clients survey in DXF or DWG format for import. The issue is that they do not want the liability of a survey being modified by another party. The PDF files they provide are scanned and not electronically generated, so scaling to create an accurate site plan has been a challenge. The surveys do provide all the necessary information to recreate the boundaries and setbacks using lines and arcs, but I have struggled to determine how to accurately draw these elements using surveyors coordinates. Has anyone been able to determine a simple method to redraw a site plan accurately from surveyors coordinates, as in N 87º 14' 22" W 134.5'?
  4. That is exactly how I finally did it and it works so much better.
  5. I am curious if anyone knows what could be causing the issue I am having on the enclosed JPGs. I am working on two house plans with CMU pies under the decks with Brick Veneer. Same exact wall definition, same exact deck specs above. For some reason on one when I align the wall to the ring joists the footer jumps up the height of the deck, and does not show the veneer. Works fin on other, and I cannot find one difference between them. Thanks, RG
  6. Hi All, I am new to Chief Architect, and have been using Softplan for many years. The issue I cannot seem to locate information on is how to cut a hole in a roof plane based on the intersection of another roof plan. I have a complex roof I am working on with multiple manual planes. I used the intersection technique explained in the tutorial to locate the intersection points, and have aligned my roofs accordingly, but cannot figure out how to remove the plane / framing that is under the intersecting plane. I then get very strange cuts into my interior walls below. In Softplan you could just select a "Hole" feature, select the top plane, and then the bottom and a hole would automatically be cut in the lower plane. I cannot find any information on how to achieve that in Chief. Thanks for any recommendations!
